Kumon Math and Reading Center of Gurnee – West

My name is Julia Smith and I would like to share my experience with Kumon in Gurnee.
Our son, Michael, had a speech delay and we had speech therapists since age 2.
Age 3 to 5 he was in the Early Childhood program at Woodland school.
I was constantly looking for extra education to help my son with speech, reading and writing.
I found Kumon and I signed up Mike when he was 4 yo in 2008 for math and reading.
At that point, Mike couldn’t even draw a straight line, barely talking and attention span was level zero.
Instructors were well trained how to work with little kids and Mike enjoyed his teachers and classes.
By age 5 Mike was reading books for 1 st or 2 grades levels, writing was a challenge, but every day repetition slowly made his handwriting readable.
At 2^nd grade he was cleared off speech and writing therapists at woodland school.
He excelled in math and reading, his speech is perfect.
At 3 rd grade Mike made his own decision to quit Kumon and I let him since I believe that you can succeed only doing what you willing to do. We quit Kumon in September 2013 after 5 years going there. I was very sad.
During 3 rd grade Mike suffered with Math and his grades went down as well as his confidence. He wanted to be the space scientist in his future career and had been told that he cannot succeed without being excellent in math.
In June 2014 Mike decided to go back to Kumon and start math program again.
I was so proud of him as well Gurnee Kumon location director Sunita Chauhan.
We felt like we back home again.
What I like about the program, that its the systematic repetition which teaches students responsibility and independence.
It’s homework every day, no matter what, it has to be done or it will be two next day.
Working hard on math all summer Mike entered 4 th grade with confidence in math and now he is one of the best students in class. All math problems is easy for him compare with 3 rd grade when it was a constant struggle. I am so proud of him!
I am very happy with Gurnee Kumon location.

Especially I love that my son learning to be independent and responsible in his own education which we are parents provide the opportunities.
