$ 25 for the worst spaghetti I’ve ever tasted. Hard bread but a great side salad. I wanted to like this spot since I’ve heard good things and its 2 min away from where I live. Oh well!

Love, love this place. I used to live nearby 20 years ago and the place hasn’t changed — which is not a bad thing. Feels like home. The food is still just as outstanding. From the bread they serve, to the salad, to the dishes. I wish I could have them open one here in California where I now live. I’m Italian so we’re picky about Italian food and I can tell you this is authentic Italian. My mom had lasagna and I had chicken balsamica with pasta on the side. I wish I could have eaten there every night I was in town visiting.

I read in all the reviews«old school their back Italian joint». By no means is that an exaggeration. It truly is something you’d see in a movie. The complimentary salad was the best – such a well-balanced dish full of flavor. I’d order it as a standalone dish and come here multiple times. 7⁄10 Clam oreganata — no idea what was in it but it matched with the clam so well. 6.5÷10 Crab cakes — melted in my mouth… absolutely fantastic. 7.5÷10 Shrimp scampi — best shrimp I’ve had in years. Buttery, juicy and cooked to absolute perfection. 9⁄10 Scarpariella chicken — read a ton of good reviews on this dish. To me it was average so I tried smothering it with parmesan and that did the trick. The side of linguine was a nice balance. 5⁄10 The cab sauv and especially their shiraz complimented the dishes well. Attention to detail, pretty good service(although the tall waiter rubbed me the wrong way) and atmosphere are what bump this restaurant into 4 – 5 star range. Great for a group of friends and an intimate-enough atmosphere for a date. Overall experience: 4.2÷5

AUTHENTICITALIANFOOD! I can not stress this enough but if you’re looking for it, it’s at GP’S and if it’s not on the menu no worries they’ll try their best to please you. I’ve gone here on many different occasions with my family and no matter what I order I’m always pleased with the result. To start, GP’s takes their diner’s back to the old school way of serving their appreciated guests with a complementary salad for the whole table. Don’t forget to look at their specials that constantly change to keep their regulars satisfied with the chef’s imagination and broad palette. If you haven’t already tried this place out what are you waiting for! If you have been here before, you know you’re getting the craving so head back and tell Joseph, Eric and the Keshishian Family says hi!

Ordered on seamless and it was a major disappointment. Chicken Milanese was just a chicken cutlet for $ 20 in a plastic box without the arugula and tomato — called to question where the arugula and tomato was and was told they don’t do it that way. What way exactly? Like it is supposed to be? ordered soda for $ 2.75 and received an 8oz soda– will never order from them again …

From the moment I called to the end of the dinner, George and his crew were amazing. The service was amazing, the food was prepared perfectly, and their professionalism was the best I have experienced in a restaurant. Out of 5 stars, I would rate them a 10. We will definitely be back for more.

Guttenberg is a tiny town between North Bergen and West New York. It is literally made up of a few blocks. GP’s is the hidden gem that everyone should know about if you don’t know already. Located on a residential street right up from Blvd. East this is the most authentic Italian food I have ever had in my life. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and the food quality only gets better as the years go by. When you first enter you will see the bar but further in the back is the restaurant. I say restaurant but truly it looks like you are entering someone’s living room. The décor is so homey and filled with family pictures all around. The entire wait staff including the veteran of them all Joe are masters at what they do. Joe has been there since the beginning and is a true gentleman at heart. Complimentary bread and the best salad you will ever have is brought to the table. Joe is always so kind to ask if you would like fresh ground pepper just to give it that extra kick. When I went recently with my friend who is not a cheese lover(the salad comes already prepped with tons of stuff) Joe was more then willing to return with her own salad without the cheese. If you want an appetizer trust me when I say everything on the menu is worth more then 5 stars. The meatballs, clams oreganata, mozzarella, you name it are all mouth watering. Now to the good stuff… the dinner. My favorite meals that I am always a repeat offender with are the Chicken Balsamic with Roasted Red Peppers and the Shrimp Parmigiana. Each dish you order comes with a side of linguine separate in a bowl. It is the perfect portion. In my opinion I would rather not get filled up on the pasta and leave no room to enjoy the main dish which is why I enjoy the side of it. These two dishes are cooked to perfection. The sauces they use are truly fresh and with every bite it leaves you wanting more and more. With a place like GP’s where the first course and second course meals are divine how could you not have dessert! As full as I am every time because I never leave a single piece behind I always make sure to eat something sweet after because after all their dessert is just as exceptional. The red velvet cake is delicious. Extremely moist and the perfect way to end the food coma you will be in after leaving. Please Please Please! If you live in the area or are daring enough to make the drive(they valet), I promise you that you will not be disappointed with this place. It is one of the best authentic Italian restaurants around.

Fantastic food, atmosphere, service, everything. I felt like I walked back in time when we walked in. The place oozes classic 1950’s Italian restaurant. The food was incredibly delicious, and our hosts were extremely friendly and attentive. It’s a short walk to this Jersey oasis in our neighborhood, and we will be sure to return again.

This place is pure magic. Misleading exterior, thankfully, excludes anyone who wouldn’t appreciate this terrific neighborhood Italian. Consistent cuisine, strong cocktails and charming staff, especially Brian at the bar.

After reading the reviews on this place, I decided to give it a go. I’m so glad I did. I walked in 2 hours before they opened on accident because someone left the door unlocked. The bartender John gave me the warmest welcoming I’ve ever had in a restaurant. He explained the situation and offered me a drink while they set up in the kitchen. I also got to engage in a great conversation with Joe(I think he’s one of the waiters) who’s very funny and endearing. I got to meet the owner Pat, who’s husband was first cousins with Frank Sinatra! I felt like I’ve been going there since they opened(37 years ago). Although I didn’t get to stay for dinner, I truly enjoyed my drinks and conversation. I’m definitely looking forward to my next visit. Next time I’ll make sure I have more time.

A gem in the hills of the Hudson River Jersey coast. Small old school style Italian restaurant. Family style food. Had a business dinner here. Delicious garlic bread with cheese. Amazing chicken entrees. But not the best penne vodka. Too sour. Not creamy cheesy enough. Overall 4 stars. Enjoyed the place. Second time here.

Reviews were spot on, thanks local Unilocalers! I agree that the complimentary salad at the beginning is amazing… the bread was good, but there was no olive oil on the table for dipping, I didn’t bother to ask for any though. What I didn’t like was the wait, even though we made a reservation for 7:45pm on a Saturday night, and arrived promptly at 7:45, we weren’t seated until probably 8:15pm. For this alone, I can’t give 4 stars at this point. This was our first time here. We ordered 2 chicken dishes; chicken rollatini(see pic) and chicken scarpariello, both were good. The french onion soup appetizer was awesome. I had the tartufo for dessert which was reasonably priced even though it was clearly from Bindi. Their specials were also reasonably priced(not priced more than their regular comparable dishes) and I was close to ordering a salmon one but I was in the mood for a marsala sauce. We will definitely try to go back again. Overall a good value too with the half carafe of wine($ 15) which provided about 4 glasses between us two.

Always an amazing time when I come out to GP’s. Very friendly staff that works hard. Even though it’s a local spot, everyone is always so welcoming and happy to see you. Not to mention their ravioli is to die for!

Love love love this old school Italian joint. Must try the mozzarella marina as an appetizer. Plus you get salad and fresh bread with any entrée. All entrees are very good. Try any of their signature dishes!

Food isn’t bad but a bit pricey. Service can be strange. They mixed up groups and we had to vacate a table after receiving drinks and apps even though there was plenty of space. Finished dinner at the bar :(

We were talking about moving. Leaving West New York, and mixing it up a little bit. One sentence ended all moving talk, «…but we won’t be able to walk up to GP’s anymore». It is that kind of place. We bring all of our out of town guests to GPs and they all say it is that neighborhood Italian spot they wished they had at home. Go more than once, and everyone remembers you. You feel at home. They open with a salad and bread. Simple salad, cold, crisp, great dressing and some wonderfully chewy bread. Who still does that? The Baked clams are my go to app.(Personally I think both their baked clams and linguine and clams are the best in all of Jersey). Sometimes they do an artichoke special app which is ridiculous. I was about to go through all of my favorite items on the menu, but they are all good, from the Scarapiella Chicken(get it non the bone) to pork chops with peppers, to the tripe it is all oh so good. Just make sure somewhere you fit in some meatballs, you can always get them as a side or app if not an entrée. You haven’t been to GPs until you had the meatballs. Run, don’t walk to GPs, just don’t take my seat at the corner of the bar by the jukebox.

After walking by this place numerous times over the last two years, my boyfriend and I finally decided to check it out and the only thing I am disappointed about is that it took us this long to do so! After walking in the front door I noticed a nice full serviced bar. Customers are also welcomed to eat here as well. However, tonight my boyfriend and I wanted a more sit down meal, we went to the back room and were seated right away. The restaurant was extremely cute, cozy and romantic. If you are searching for one of those old school Italian places that only seem to be seen and exist in movies… the wait it over because this is it. After being seated, we were brought warm bread and a fresh complimentary salad. The salad came in a nice sized bowl and was perfect for two. I personally would go back for the salad alone!!! As an appetizer we decided to start with the clams oreganata which were definitely delicious. As an entrée, I ordered the chicken with mushrooms and wine sauce over linguini which was just out of this world. My boyfriend decided to get a chicken and broccoli in a lemon sauce which he savory and enjoyed every single bite. As stuffed as we were, we couldn’t pass on dessert! We ended our lovely dinner with a tiramisu which to no surprise was also amazing. The service there was also great throughout the entire dinner. The waiter made sure our water glasses were filled at all times and was very genuine and kind. Today was my first experience and definitely will not be the last! I can not wait to return!
