My son and I had the perfect experience here. From the moment we checked in, the owners and staff took the time to make sure we were as happy as could be. The food and accommodations are simple and wonderful. Our guides name was Cade and he is a regular guide at Hackberry. I will say I have had dozens of guides over the years and he was one of the best I have had. I let him know I was interested in my son catching and not so much me. He made sure that my eight year old boy had the time of his life. He caught his largest Red fish of his life. My son could not contain his smile and was on cloud nine. I would like to thank everyone who works for this business for a truly wonderful experience. We will be back soon, I may book today.

Had high expectations for a great day out with some clients. Guide can’t control weather and I don’t blame him whatsoever for the wind. He tried to get us on fish very hard using all his skill, but with the strong winds it just wasn’t in the cards. What I do have a problem with is not having any gear for his charter. If I didn’t have my own rod and tackle I’d have been SOL for fishing yesterday. When on a charter I expect the guide to have rods set up with correct tackle for whatever we’re going after… Is that even a question? The guide caught 4 reds when only I and one of the other guys caught one each. Other charters I’ve been on the guide hooked up and handed the rod to one of the anglers who hadn’t caught anything. I had a client who spent 8 hours on a boat and was completely blanked. I think that’s an area for Improvment and some advise, have some rods ready. Don’t make your charters use their own gear unless they insist on it. You’re the guide. Be the expert on your boat by saying«this is what works here». It’s why we chartered you. If we’re just getting a boat and a driver tell the office to let the charters know before we head out. This way the angler can either choose another guid service or be prepared with his own gear. It was completely by luck that I had my own gear. If I’m off base here please let me know. I don’t want to be harsh, just constructive.
