I know the other reviewers have this store rave reviews but I’m kind of on the fence with this store. I really would like to like it but I just don’t care too much for the selection of yarns here anymore. One thing I can say is that if you’re into knitting for babies, they have a great selection of yarn to choose from. This store is worth a visit.

What a wonderful store. There are so many good things to say about this store. First, the owner is wonderfully welcoming, nice, and helpful. One of the few yarn stores I know that says — just come on by and I will help you with your project even if you haven’t bought my yarn. In fact, I think the classes may even all be free here. The prices are pretty good, especially right now(summer 2012) when everything is 70% off. Most of the yarn is dyed by the owner(when does she find the time) and some of the sheep are nearby so you are definitely getting a local product here. There is an extensive collection. It is mostly their own yarn, but they have a few other brands in there as well. They are open every day and even stay open kinda late during the week(until 7pm).

I have some friends that are having babies, and want to settle on a signature gift that works for little people, regardless of sex(i.e. doesn’t have to rely on pink or blue or purple). I found this pattern: and fell in love. I found some wool yarn at the Stitch House to make a test blanket, but wanted to do the actual gifts in this Farmhouse Yarn I am Allergic to Wool. The ONLY place that sells the stuff in New England is in CT, at the CT Yarn and Wool Company. I called the owner and asked if she had the yarn in stock(yes) and decided to stop in on my way to Brooklyn. Okay, you have to be looking for this place, because it is really not close to anything, but once you get there?! Fantastic! This place is the only store that carries ALL of the Farmhouse line, and what is funny is that each skein has a picture of the actual sheep it came from with a name and a story. Cute. The store is huge, sort of stretches through a few rooms, and it’s got a cozy, welcoming feel. Once I arrived, the owner greeted me warmly, and left me to snoop around after assuring me that she was there to help if I needed. The only thing I was annoyed about was that I couldn’t linger: we were on a pretty tight schedule, else I’d have pulled out some needles, jumped on the couch that sat in front of the fire place, and knitted away. Also, Farmhouse ain’t cheap($ 27/skein), which is why I wanted to do a test with a less expensive yarn before committing. But the I am Allergic to Wool is GORGEOUS! It will make the perfect baby blanket. Next time, I think I’ll have this place ship my yarn, but if you are into yarn, it’s a nice little trip.
