I recently had a very positive experience here. I purchased a lamp, and did not realize until I got it home that the shade was wobbly. I brought the lamp back the next day, and it apparently was missing a washer that would hold the shade on tightly. The store got the washer for me within about a week, and when they called to say the lamp was ready for me to pick up and I told them my car was in the shop that day, they were nice enough to drop the lamp off at my house. (Granted, I live pretty close to the store, but still…) Would have given 5 stars if lamp had not been wobbly to begin with! I pop in here pretty regularly, and it’s a great place for gifts. Never had a problem with the salespeople.

I purchased an expensive, beautiful glazed pottery baking dish from By Hand. Unfortunately, the third time I used the baking dish it split in half while inside my oven, spilling the contents and making a big mess. Apparently it was not heat-​proof, although the saleswomen had told me that I could bake in it. I returned the broken baking dish on a Sunday and was told that the staff in the store could not do a return or even an exchange without the owner who wasn’t in that day. I left the broken disk and my phone number since I live an hour away. The owner called me the next day and insisted that, since I had put the baking dish in a pre-​heated oven, the break was my fault. She refused to give me a replacement baking dish or a store credit. What kind of store doesn’t stand behind their merchandise? I will never shop there again and urge others not to shop there either.

I love this store! A friend had purchased a necklace for me from «By Hand» years ago. It didn’t quite fit so I exchanged it for an equally beautiful and unique necklace. Ever since then, I shop there regularly for myself and for the women in my life (daughters-​in-​law). I don’t believe I have ever seen anything but beautiful, interesting pieces here.
Shopping in Haddonfield is a pleasant experience; also, there is a Starbuck’s nearby and my favorite toy store down the street.

My wife bought a fairly expensive item here yesterday and asked if she could return it for a credit on her credit card. They said they have a 24 hour policy for returns otherwise it only for a store credit. She went back today to return it and the story had changed. First, I would never shop in a store that only has store credits. Second, they said today «Oh, the 24 hour policy is for small craft items.» The owner was extremely rude to her, and I figured the best way to deal with this is to let everyone know how they treat their customers. We used to shop there regularly and hadn’t in many years and this was the how they treated us. Best to avoid this place because of their return policy which is antiquated just like the mentality of the owner. She even offered to buy another item at a lower cost and they would not fully refund the difference on her card. What kind of customer goodwill is this?

By Hand has interesting hand crafted jewerly from local and non-​local artisans which range in style and price. They are located in historic Haddonfield which is a neat area to walk aroundm grab a Starbucks coffee or have lunch.
Each time I visit this charming store I have gone away with a special piece of jewerly that I get alot of compliments on. They also have blown glass art, dishware etc. The type of jewerly is usually silver, wire or beaded and always unique and interesting. There are 2 floors and if you stop by, make sure to walk down Kings Highway and explore the many other unique shops and eateries.
I only vote it a 3 star because I have had some «snobbish» encounters with a few of the ladies that work there, (on more than one occassion) however it doesnt deter me from going back. I love the store’s selection of unique pieces that make it worth while for me to shop there.
