Bob’s Trees – Christmas & Nursery Stock

I’ve been buying my tree here for years with nothing but great experiences. However, after this year, I am never going back. Bob himself helped us, and he was incredibly rude. We asked him to trim the trunk and he wouldn’t, we asked him to net the tree before he put it on top of the car and he said «well you didn’t ask me to do that». He then grumbled and groaned while he begrudgenly did so. I could go on and on about similar instances that occurred in the 20 minutes we were there.
I should also mention that we were the only customers on the lot, so it was not like he was pressed for time. If he doesn’t need the business, I’ll take mine to someone who does.

My family and I had been buying our Christmas trees and various landscaping plants at Bobs for years. When we decided we needed a big Canadian Hemlock tree to fill a space in our yard, Bob’s seemed like the natural choice… we really were a fan! They even had a «guarantee» on their plants, if you paid the costs to use their installers. It was not cheap ($ 600+) to use their installers but we thought the guarantee was worth it for the peace of mind, so we took the plunge.
Sadly, within two winters their Canadian tree didn’t survive the cold (yeah, I know… seems ironic). I called to inquire about the guarantee. Unfortunately, it’s only good for a year, and they told me I could take it up with the installer if I wished. I protested, particularly in light of the many other pieces of business I had given them over the years, and was told that someone from management would call me to discuss… which they never did despite multiple calls.
This was so disappointing from a number of facets…
— No consideration for the business we had done, nor what we had still intended to do (my suggestion of a partial credit toward future purchases was summarily dismissed)
— I bought this tree from Bobs, not the installer. If you offer the service, follow through on the claims please. It should not be up to the customer to chase a claim down the liability chain.
— I realize the guarantee was for one year, which had expired (recently…but expired nonetheless)…but that a Canadian evergreen tree could not make it through its second winter raises the question of what sort of quality to expect.
— It also seems this limited guarantee would make them non-​competitive with someone like Hewitts, who guarantees their trees for life.
Unfortunately for me, in the end I ended up renting a tree for two seasons for $ 600. Unfortunately for Bobs, it will be the last dime I spend there, as the several landscaping projects I have planned will source plants from elsewhere.
My advice: get your Christmas trees there if its convenient, but if you want anything that will be living beyond Jan 1, think twice… and beware the «guarantee».

This was our first year with a christmas tree and i did a good amount of research before picking a «cut your own» tree farm.
Bobs trees was everything the website described! They have tons and tons of trees plus a gift shop, refreshments, etc.
You have a choice of cutting your own or purchasing a pre cut tree. 8′ and under is $ 45 to cut and 9′ and up is $ 55. They provide the saw and a map so you can find what type of tree you want. The choices are endless.
We ended up cutting our own and found a gorgeous fraser fir. They bailed it and helped us tie it to our roof and we were on our way!
FYI! Up top near most of the trees they accept cash only but at the bottom near the gift shop you can pay with card!
We also purchased an outdoor flag and plan on coming back to look at ornaments
We will definitely make a tradition of coming to Bobs for our christmas tree!

Bob’s is not just a place to buy a tree, it has been a Christmas tradition for Upstate NY families for decades. The resident reindeer are beautiful and friendly. The warming hut has an impressive menu and always has warm beverages on cold days. The staff is helpful. You can find any variety and size tree you might want. Always fresh-​cut. You can visit during the Fall to choose a live tree, mark it with ribbons and return after Thanksgiving to cut it down and bring it home. Bring your children for a memorable Christmas experience.
