Pupukea Gardens

As everyone else has said, this is the best dressing! I use for everything and even have it sent to the mainland when I’m there. The taste is out of this world and they now have even more flavors. You can always find them at the Haleiwa Farmers Market and get some delicious greens there too!

My friend and I tried finding this place and just couldn’t find it. So I called and they said that they were a lettuce farm, not a restaurant!

Jay does not lie. the Papaya Seed Dressing is truly the world’s best.
the first time i had it, i was eating a freshly-​caught ahi tuna over rice at «Taste of Paradise,» which was the name of a quonset hut on the North Shore (that is now called «Island Shack»), and i ended up pouring it over pretty much everything on my plate. seeing that i ended up eating at Taste of Paradise almost every day for the entire 3 months i was living there, i clearly consumed enough of the Papaya Seed Dressing to most likely bathe in, rinse in, and have leftovers for a few shots. when i left, i bought 10 bottles of the stuff and prayed to God they would not explode in my suitcase.
God was merciful, and not just because all 10 bottles arrived intact. no, because He clearly told Hawai’i’s Special that ONLINE ORDERING was totally the way to go. no more trips to Hawai’i that involve taking empty suitcases soley for the purpose of stocking up on the dressing. now, every few months, i can go to:
and order a case. we use it as a marinade, as a dip, as a pasta salad dressing, and of course as a salad dressing too. my husband is remarkably happy about eating salad because of this dressing. when we run out, it’s hard to get him to eat a freakin’ carrot.
anyway… it is totally worthwhile for you to head over to that site (which is nicely designed too, i have to say) and check out what they have to offer. i have tried the pepper, reduced-​fat, and vinaigrette versions, but nothing compares to the elixir of awesomeness that is the original Papaya Seed Dressing.

The world’s best salad dressing is made in Hawaii!
Hawaii’s Special Inc, in Haleiwa started as a local lettuce farm way back when. Now they make a line of papaya seed dressings that can be purchased island wide or at the Pupukea Gardens HQ. It’s worth a trip just to see the raised beds of baby greens.
I love the peppered version for marinating chicken and fish. The reduced fat variety has plenty of flavor but I still like the original recipe the best.
Nothing beats this homegrown sauce!
