This is so cool. A bird sanctuary in the middle of the village. I happened upon this as I was walking around the village of Hamburg. Named after a much loved Hamburg High science teacher, this sanctuary is on land she and her husband owned. She also was known for rehabbing injured birds. This is public space, and can be accessed by a public walkway. It underwent an extensive«rehab» of its own in the early 2000’s and looks great as a result. One of Anna Maes many contribution was planting trees and flowers that would specifically attract birds. Her son kept up the tradition himself. The sanctuary runs along Eighteenmile Creek, and has both forest and meadow. Its not huge, but it is large enough to be home to many birds as well as small mammals. Its a «leave no trace» kind of space, so carry out anything you may carry in with you.
