The store hours on the website and Unilocal say they are open until 2pm on Saturdays. When I arrived at 1:30pm, the door was open but the women inside said that they had«just finished closing up.» I find it unprofessional to not have the correct hours online/close early, so for now this is a one star until I’m able to try the food– and hopefully this time they’ll be open.

My cream of vegetable soup had half frozen vegetables in it. My husbands hamburger was recooked hamburger. I had a stomach ache after lunch. I kid you not. This is not the place to go. Food is not as advertised.

Very friendly staff and bargain prices. Good breakfast for two really shouldn’t cost more than $ 20 total, and Sandwich Board passes that test with delicious meals every time. They advertise homestyle cooking on the window, and they deliver. Like food from your favorite aunt. My wife and I are here pretty much every Sunday.

This place is adorable, down-home, and comforting. My husband and I came here twice in 2 days during our first 48 hours in Hamden, and were not disappointed. The sandwiches were good, and the corn bread we got to-go was also delicious. But most importantly, the people working here are super friendly. When we told them it was our first day here, they bent over backwards to make us feel at home, and made good suggestions about where to go to buy the essentials. When I mentioned I was going to bed bath and beyond, the cook gave me like 15 coupons from there that she had in her purse. Insanely nice of her, and something she definitely didn’t need to do. Places like this make me happy, because it means there are still good people in the world who care about making others feel welcome :)

I have tried several times, but I just haven’t has anything but mediocre sandwiches. That last time I ordered a Reuben and was disappointed to see them just grab a few thin slices of beige store brand deli meat, some genetic dressing and old sauerkraut and throw them into a pan filled with butter. I ate it anyway but felt sick for the rest of the day. The people are nice enough but it is just really low quality diner food

Went here for breakfast and it was delicious. Tried the pancakes, french toast, and the eggs with home fries. Very homey atmosphere. I have yet to try the sandwich aspect but I definitely will be back to do so.

Just left this place with a smile. My wife and I were very satisfied. The hash was great, omelets were delicious, coffee was always topped off, the staff was very friendly and personable. We’ve been looking for a «regular» place to go near home and I think we just found it…

I was really looking forward to trying this spot. The board outside says“over stuffed” sandwiches, so I hoping to find a hidden gem when I stopped by. I watched the«cook», who is also a waitress try and prepare the sandwiches, using her bare hands to touch the meat, no gloves. My sandwich was in no means over stuffed with meat, instead it was overstuffed with grease. Most of the items in my sandwich were from a can. I have to say the people working there are very friendly, so I wish I could write a raving review, but my friend and I did not enjoy your sandwiches at all, we could barely eat them. On the side came potato salad that was also not edible. It came in a very tiny cup, maybe two bite fulls of potato salad. We paid about 20 dollars for two small sandwiches and two waters from the tap and we expected a lot more. Over salted and over greasy, I left there with a greasy feeling in my throat and heart burn.

I’ve been eating breakfast here for years, under previous ownership and current. I’ve waited a while(a year?) since the new ownership took over to post a review, and I’m glad I did. The initial adjustment phase seems to have passed, and they’re in a groove. It certainly isn’t the same place, I still haven’t found anyplace that makes corned beef hash as well as I used to get here, but that doesn’t mean it’s «gone downhill» or anything like it. It’s not better, it’s not worse, it’s just different. If you’re in spring glen and want a good honest breakfast, this is the place.

It is a classic luncheonette. Very clean & friendly. Good patient counter service. My friend and I ordered soup and sandwiches. They were American classics. Order the homemade Italian cookies to take out. They are perfect with espresso later on in the day.

This place has the WORST hours in the history of restaurants. Who closes at 1 pm on a saturday and sunday? And they say they are a breakfast and lunch place. I like that they open at 6 am, but 1 pm to close is ridiculous. I have been there twice on a weekend, both times have been unsuccessful in getting food. I refuse to try again.

Great place to bring your dad(if he’s part of the 65+ set like mine). Typical and good diner breakfasts and sandwiches, cheap and cute, small town diner feel(of the non-ironic sort… that’s exactly what it is!). Tip: I think it’s cash only.

This is a cute mom and pop diner on Whitney Ave. next to Dairy Queen. They have the usual breakfast fare and some great sandwiches. Perfect for cheap eats, especially if you get one of the breakfast specials. The excellent service makes you feel right at home and has kept a steady group of regulars coming in for years. Only open for breakfast and lunch.
