The Fig Cooking School

I have attended many cooking classes in the past couple of years and this class was the best. The quality of the ingredients (organic) was top notch. We did a French dinner which you would eat in the Burgundy region of France; it started with Gougeres, then Coq au Vin served with a salad and Pear Clafoutis for dessert. Chef Heide explained everything which made it informative and fun. She also allowed you to participate as much as you wanted and everyone in the class did something. The end result was a delicious meal that we all enjoyed.

There were 10 people in the class and we collectively prepared a meal that we ate together. Everyone pitched in at different points in the cooking process. I thought it was great that she had the completed dish ready before-​hand because the Beouf Bourguignon is better served the next day.
It was delicious and I learned a lot. Great company was a plus!

Long story short, I never made the class. But, lets start at the very beginning. I had a gift certificate ($ 150.00) for two people to attend The FIg Cooking School. From the start Heidi was disorganized. Emails not returned, outdated website, etc. I did book a class for the end of September with my spouse. THe very last email, I asked Heidi if we could bring wine. She never responded. My husband and and I missed the class and we take 100% of the responsibility. But, with the $ 150.00 cost, you would think she could do something? What happened to the food that was made with the $ 150? Did your family enjoy it? It would have been nice to receive an email or phone call to see if we wanted the food. We live in the same town. I guess I was hoping she would have SOME business sense. Did we miss the class because of an emergency, someone sick? I once missed a massage appointment (had never been there before) and the owner called to see if everything was ok. I understand the no refund policy, but $ 150 is not small change and she certainly lost customers over this. Once again, it was my fault we did not attend the class, but I think Heidi should take a Business 101 class.

An absolute pleasure from soup to nuts, literally. I’m a pretty avid cook and there was a lot to take away from this class. Steeped in French cooking knowledge, you will learn a lot from Heidi and have a great time along the way.

I guess heide doesn’t do too well with big groups. Everyone else’s review said they had a blast but it was with 2 or 3 people. I was with a group of 11 people and we barely did anything. She had everything prepared and measured out and she did almost all the cooking. I think I got to pour brown sugar into a bowl and that was it. Don’t get me wrong the food was delicious but we didn’t get to take our leftover home. For the amount of money we spent I was for sure we would take the leftovers home since there was a lot left! As we were eating she was already covering up the left overs and taking them away. If u have a big group I would not recommend this class.

I’ve attended 2 of Heide’s classes, and both of been fantastic! Plenty of food, great recipes and I learned a couple of new techniques! This would be a great class to do with your partner or with friends, but singles would enjoy it just as much! It’s a great way to meet other people. The classes are run in Heide’s home, which give it an intimate, friendly feel. I’ve cooked Heide’s recipes again, and they have worked to perfection and become family favorites! Thanks Heide!

My husband and I recently took a Mexican cooking class at the Fig Cooking School. Heide’s teaching methods were hands-​on and perfect for both experienced and inexperienced cooks. Her home kitchen is beautiful and also well-​stocked with kitchenwares. But, nothing in her recipes is unattainable for those of us without quite as many utensils. It was a wonderful, intimate evening, and we will look forward to returning again soon!

I recently attended a class at the fig cooking school devoted to recipes in the Jerusalem cookbook. The style of cooking and recipes originating in the Middle East are very popular now and Heide’s class was certainly a forum to show off the wonderful flavors and aromas from that part of the world. Since this was not my first experience cooking with heide in her well equipped, inviting and homey kitchen I knew I was in for a very special evening. Everything was spot on and delicious including the exotic Maqluba which is a layered casserole that is fragrant and impressive. We also had Shakshuka, a spicy egg presentation nestled in a delicious tomato sauce. We also experienced cucumber yogurt dip, roasted eggplant and hummus. Thank you Heide!

I have been to Heide’s classes 3 – 4 times. Each time, I come back with new recipes I am excited to try myself. I recently took her Southern Comfort cooking class — and the fried chicken is perfection. I made it myself, following her recipe exactly and it was a huge hit. Definitely will be back for more lessions — she is a wonderful instructor and her classes are fun — and make great gifts!

My father and I attended a class at The Fig Cooking School tonight and I felt so compelled to come home and write a glowing review immediately! Heidi Lang, the founder and chief instructor was absolutely delightful as was her daughter and assistant Isabel, giving us a warm welcome and making us feel right at home as soon as we arrived. The class took place in their home and the kitchen was very impressive with commercial quality utensils and cooking elements. Viking hood and Wolf stove, natch. The class was called Farmer’s Market Favorites and featured a number of fresh and organic recipes to prepare. The class lasted 3 hours and we sat and enjoyed or creations with the other participants for an hour after that. The words «delightful» and «lovely» came out of my mouth more times than are rational or that I can even begin to count. My father and I were so impressed with the quality of ingredients we used, being self-​professed foodies and home cooks in our own rights. We will most definitely be returning to The Fig Cooking School.

The Indian cooking class blew me away! Heide, the chef, owner, and instructor, is bright, bubbly, funny, and a superb teacher. I used to be intimidated by Indian spices but not anymore. The hours flew by as exotic aromas, colors, textures, and tastes delighted the students’ senses. The mango soup was to die for– tangy, sweet, and piquant. I can’t wait to return to Heide’s kitchen!

I took the mexican themed class at fig and it was relatively entertaining but I would definitely not go back. The classes are in the instructors house and I felt the whole thing was unprofessional. The instructor seemed disorganized and therefore the class dragged on for 4 hrs. The worst part was that she saved part of the meal for her family to eat later even though we ran out of the main course. The recipes were mediocre. Definitely not worth the small fortune I paid to attend.
