Beautiful inn setting. Food average at best. Soup and entre were served luke warm. Service pleasant.

Always incredibly slow service. It doesn’t matter the meal time you go(breakfast, lunch or dinner) book extra time. Additionally, the food is okay, but if I’m honest there are much better things in town for less money. For example, if you’re looking for brunch skip the inn and head to Suzie’s(better food for less $ and faster).

Awesome service, very quaint and romantic ambiance, strong and delicious Moscow mule, and some of the best melt-in-your-mouth pot roast that I have ever had. Five stars all around.

Good breakfast selections, dessert list. My NY Strip dinner was outstanding, and paired with a Beefeaters Martini, was a perfect ending to a long day of travel. Negatives: Service can be somewhat slow and amateurish, and the three flavor sorbet I ordered came as three scoops of raspberry… oh well.

Gorgeous inn! The lobby alone is amazing… After extensive renovation, The Colgate Inn is a beautiful place to experience. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We visited on a warm Saturday late afternoon/evening for dinner(we were lucky enough to beat the rush and were seated almost immediately). We sat outside on their spacious covered patio. They have a great draught beer selection with a few New York choices, always a good thing. Anyone that serves Empire White Aphro(my favorite beer) and Ithaca Flower Power has got to be a good place! They serve everyone focaccia with oil and garlic that is so delicious. We had their lamb tacos to start– 3 full size tacos served with one of the best slaws I’ve ever had. This is listed on the menu under apps, but could be a meal in itself. The steak wedge salad was wonderful– the steak was so tender I could use a fork to cut it. The lobster mac & cheese was decadent-good sized pieces of lobster and sausage that added smokiness to the whole dish. If we didn’t already have a wedding venue, this could be a perfect place to hold a reception, and after party!

Stayed here for a wedding. The staff was very accommodating as I really needed to check in a little early to have somewhere to put my things(I was in the wedding). Aside from the great service, the room was really nice and cozy(we got a balcony room on the second level, which was a nice surprise). The walls are kind of thin, but the pancakes were thick and delicious :) I highly recommend trying their breakfast before you leave!

We were in town for a kids sports weekend and came here on our second night. We were not disappointed. We sat in the main dining room which is well appointed. I had the prime rib special, and we also had the salmon, a spinach salad and a simple pasta with a marinara sauce. The portions were ample and everybody had more than they could eat. The service was efficient and thoughtful. The bar is stocked with many local microbrews on draft.

Love the collegiate atmosphere of this place — really makes the entire college tour very quintessential. Food was good and hearty, exactly what you would expect. Loved the wine flights and the traditional fare(pot roast). Also thought the breakfast was a shockingly good value, I am too used to jersey prices!

Splitting the difference between a good bar review and a very mediocre food review. The Inn is a beautiful old building with a very nice bar. The space is great, the fireplace is nice during the winter, and they keep good beer on tap. The cocktail menu errs towards the palate of a four-year-old who wants to eat Candyland, but so it goes. The service seems great, and they do try to cater to various diets(vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.). The problem is that, for my taste, the food isn’t any good. Very bland. I left half my meal and went home to cook my own dinner. Also, in the event you are vegan, you technically can eat here, but it takes the form of removing lots of elements from dishes, which makes the food even worse. I’ll happily go back for drinks, but I have no interest in eating there again.

Who does not love the inn? Whether it is a quick lunch during the weekend or a long dinner at night the inn is always fun. Trivia Wednesday’s are the best and what I miss most about my time at Colgate. Highly recommend!

I’ve always had a good stay here. The rooms are clean, and well decorated. Most of the rooms are fairly spacious and they’re all generally decorated the same way so there is never that problem of getting the room that needs to be renovated. You can though get the room next to the elevators, which is more like an oversized closet. I’ve never had the problem of getting that room, which I think is more luck than anything else. If you can choose your room, request the handicapped room on floor two, or the room with the balcony also on floor two. They’re the best by far. The restaurant isn’t that great. A bit of a bummer and knocks this place down from a 4 star(at least on Unilocal terms). The dinner I had one night there for a small company event just wasn’t very good. It was standard lasagna and chicken picata, both of which were very bland. The next morning we ate breakfast in the bar area which has plenty of tables to sit at, and the food just tasted like it wasn’t very well prepared at all. Maybe the college dining hall staff are cooking here? What a disappointment.

Lovely setting, but… this is my third time here in three days and two I times had to go and find a server. She handed me menus and told me she would find us a server… Ten minutes later, we got water and still waiting. … I come back because this is really the only place in Hamilton to sit outside and enjoy a cocktail. On my third visit I wondered if the staff had read my review, because they were tripping over themselves trying to be kind and accommodating The staff seems to have a problem communicating; perhaps there is no manager. I was teLly disappointed that they choose to over enforce Sunday blue laws by refusing to serve alcohol until noon.

This place is an inn, not a hotel, not a motel. And for that fact I liked it very much. It was clean, the people were friendlly. The food was good, the bar was good, the beer selection is great. Yes a little pricey but again this is an inn, not a hotel chain. If I go back, Im staying here and rather pay $ 50 more because it’s a nice place to spend the night.

Yum Yum Yum Yum!!! This was the second time I’ve been to The Colgate Inn since the renovation. What a beautiful improvement. Go see Glenn at the Tavern. He not only does he make Delicious libations, he has great recommendations from the menu. Must Haves!!! Crab cakes, Grilled Chicken Wings, Lobster Mac & Cheese, Burgers… Enjoy!!!

Went for brunch and had the worst service I have ever experienced at any restaurant. We had to wait almost half an hour for anyone to even offer us water and then an hour and a half before any food appeared and we only ordered eggs. Meanwhile, we watched several families and large groups(we were only two people) that arrived after us get served, eat, pay their checks and leave before we even got our food. Our server seemed to be actively ignoring us and no one apologized for the wait. It also took 20 minutes before we were able to force the check on her so we could finally leave after over two hours. The food was ok but prices have gone up for less food. This was supposed to be a celebratory brunch but we just ended up leaving in extremely bad moods. We go to the Inn often and have always enjoyed it but this experience has made us never want to go back.

Wonderful dinner. Salmon tart appetizer(I think that’s what it was called). It Was like a savory cheesecake. Roast beef with veggies and mashed potatoes. Crème Brûlée with berries for dessert. All very very good. I did not stay at the inn.

Excellent pot roast with parsnips and carrots. The burger is also really tasty. Also tried the Shepard’s Pie and it was flavorful with peas and carrots and delicious mashed on top. I’ve also had the pan-seared scallops for $ 26 — delicious. You get 4 large scallops in a choice of 3 sauces(I chose the buerre blanc) and you get a tasty rice pilaf and greens with sautéed fennel. Finally tried the toll house cookie pie — flavorful for sure. The renovation is nice, although I’d never seen it before. The interior and ambiance is a bit sterile, and I’ve heard that prior to the renovation, there was more character, more warmth. It’s a bit to preppy for my tastes now. They’ve also got a nice selection of local beers on tap. Trivia on Wednesday nights at 8:30 during the semester is worth going to as well. To me, it seems pricey for Hamilton, NY, but it’s probably some of the best food you’ll find in this village.

The Colgate Inn was a fantastic experience. The entire building was remodeled in the Spring and it looks fantastic. The décor is a modern rustic look that has a great feel. If you also like to eat, drink, and be merry this is the place in Hamilton. There is a full dining area with several banquet rooms, but my favorite area was certainly the bar. A fantastic selection of wines and beer, and the food was amazing. The food and accommodations were so good but I have to end the review on the high note of the service. There is no «chain» service here. Nearly all staff can make their own decisions to make you feel comfortable. It appears they actually enjoy working here and like being in the hospitality industry.

I stayed at the Colgate Inn while I was in Hamilton for a job interview, and I have to say that I had a fantastic time. Despite my reservation having some problems, I was allowed to go to my room and try to contact the people who had made my reservation. Within an hour, everything was settled, but thankfully the people at the Colgate Inn gave me the opportunity to settle things and allowed me to get into my room so that everything could go as smoothly as possible. I ate two meals at the hotel restaurant while I was there, and all in all, they were fantastic! The lobster mac and cheese is a must try; there were large chunks of lobster meat in the thick, creamy sauce. It was a wonderfully rich dish, but still appropriate for a warm evening. The panini I had for lunch was delicious, with just the right amount of adventure to it to be a fun sandwich without being too out there. However, I would skip the strawberry-cucumber soup. I had to try it, as I couldn’t conceive of it when the waiter told me about it, but I wasn’t a fan at all. I would recommend against the continental breakfast, however, which was a carb and sugar extravaganza. I made due with a yogurt and an orange from the spread, but it would have been nice to have some more high-protein items available. The rooms are gorgeous though small. There is just enough room for a king-sized bed and a small desk; if you’re going to need to spend any amount of time in your hotel room, this is something you should know. However, the bathtub had a jacuzzi in it, which made my stay all the more pleasant! After having a bit of an accident, the staff went out of their way to help me out, even going across the street to buy medical supplied to add to their First Aid Kit, which I found extremely nice and above the call of duty. All in all it was a great experience!
