I went to Fernald Preserve’s Full Moon Night Hike tour last night and I had a pretty good time for several reasons. 1. It was FREE. 2. This hike definitely has a cool/weird/scary/adventure factor to it since it’s on a former contaminated uranium processing site. 3. It was educational. 4. It was beautiful to be walking on a moonlit path in the snow. 5. The guides were very friendly and knowledgable. This was really fun and so long as you dress appropriately for the weather you’ll be comfortable. The walk was 2 miles in total and was on a flat path so it wasn’t difficult. The guides started out by handing quizzes about the moon(don’t worry, it was fun!) and then the group of us headed outside to start. There was a telescope set up for moon viewing, the guide went over a bit about the current night sky, we went over the different animal tracks, heard coyotes and called to the great horned owls, and saw deer. Check out their calendar because it looks like they’ve got events pretty often. –Awesome for a cool date night, awesome for kids, awesome for history buffs and nature lovers.
