This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had dealing with a contractor. Barb the owner of Ace Tree Services cut down several large trees in my backyard for a discounted price. She assured me that she was able to provide this discount, because the city would haul away the large trees and branches. We are talking about 30 plus year old trees piled up in the alley — a job that would easily take more than three hours to remove, but I believed her. During the tree cutting her crew broke my neighbors gutter by dropping a large tree branch on it. She assured us that she had insurance with Highland Insurance and they would cover it. When she completed the job she refused to file a claim with her insurance company for my neighbors gutter. Highland insurance company told me that they do not take claims from customers they require the insured to make the claim. When they reached out to her she told them that she would pay out of pocket, but never did. When I called her she yelled and cursed in the phone, «Hire a f***ng lawyer» and hung up in my face. I did nothing to her I just wanted her to pay for the gutter as she promised. Later, I get a letter from the city warning me to remove the branches and hundred plus pound logs from the alley, because they do not provide that service for such large materials. I had to hire a second company to remove the logs — over $ 500. I also had to pay for my neighbors gutter once I was done I was stressed out and spent more money than the more reputable companies would have charged. I was young then — clearly, but I learned a painful lesson from Barb at Ace Tree Services and Highland Insurance work with reputable companies. Go ahead spend the extra money up front otherwise, the headache and the money spent trying to fix damages from unprofessional businesses will be more of a problem than a savings!
