Food would have been better if the waitress was more attentive. By the time our food arrived, it was lukewarm and the coleslaw was hot. It took her 15 minutes to get us to go boxes and another 10 for the check.

It was a great place to eat lunch. We’re big bar food/fried food fans and everything was just yummy. We got so much food for left overs.

I was looking for some local food and came upon Don’s. I sat at the bar, and the service was fast and friendly. I started with Crawfish Bisque. The flavor was very good. The only drawback to it was there was a joint of a crab leg on top of the bowl. I assumed it was there to eat, so I cracked it and bit into it. It was pure mush; I assume it was left from making stock for the soup. It should not have been placed on top like an edible garnish; it should have never made it to the table. There were a few more pieces of crab shell in the soup, and I fished them out. I moved on to Boudin Balls. They were tasty, but I really liked the Remoulade which had a great creole mustard flavor. Then I finished with Catfish Acadian which was fried catfish topped with crawfish étouffée. Delicious. Needed a touch more heat, so I spiced it up with some seasoning and hot sauce. A few local beers on tap, and 2 for 1. Love that!

Shrimp Jack and Oyster Jack was very delicious! We have been there for twice and both 2 waiters are super nice and helpful. I also had chocolate brownie, so so delicious! The only negative thing in this restaurant is they don’t serve lobster. Otherwise, it will be perfect!

I was very disappointed in my meal at Don’s. I wanted to eat at Don’s before going back to the Northeast. It was my favorite restaurant as a child growing up in Baton Rouge and also enjoyed the Hammond location. To my dismay the portion size has dramatically reduced still with a hefty price tag. The quality also seems to have diminished significantly. I had the Crab dinner. The gumbo barely had any crab to speak of in it. The Jacked up crab was really tasty but a very small sample. The crabmeat augratin was runny and I even inquired to my server about the texture and he stated that is how it is suppose to be. I don’t remember it being so runny with little amount of crabmeat. Why even put spinach crabmeat dip on the plate? I was surprised also by the size of the plate. Making the plate smaller does not fool the customer on the amount of food being served. My friend ordered her meal after I ordered mine by 10 minutes and I waited at least 15 — 20 minutes after she was served. This was my last meal and was so disappointed before going home. Plus! You no longer put hushpuppies on the plate! It is an extra charge!

Went for the all you can eat boiled shrimp. Took forever for the first batch to come after the salad. Guess they were waiting for us to fill up. Took forever for the second batch. The shrimp had a very good flavor but very hard to peel.

Not much of a Seafood eater, but went to Don’s with my friends who wanted boiled Crawfish. The waiter very young, but polite, respectful, and super knowledgeable of the menu and courses. The atmosphere just right with slightly dimmed lights, TV’s on multiple walls tuned to SportCenter, and low music in the background. I had red beans and rice with hushpuppies. Perfect. The LA professional crawfish eating friends I was with said the crawfish was on and just right. I’d go there again, and recommend it to anyone in the area.

I have been to this restaurant over a dozen times and have different reviews each time that I come. Sometimes I order seafood plate and the fried oysters are amazing and then other times ehhh. The étouffée also changes each time I order it, having the same feeling as the oysters. I will say, when I order the jacked up oysters at the bar while having a few beers, they always have been outstanding. Consistency here is a rare thing.

Half dozen oysters were not cleaned right. Very gritty. Second time here and same thing. I almost cracked a tooth. Taste was good. Nice bar to watch the game and have a wine.

Gumbo was outstanding! The jacked up oysters were not as good as thought they would be but it’s a one of a kind dish so i have nothing to compare it to. Service from Becca at the bar was excellent.

We had ditched our trailer and bobtailed over to the Best Buy and the mall to get my nails done. We figured we would take advantage of the freedom and find some good Cajun. Unilocal lead us to Don’s. They’ve been in business for like 80 years or something! We started off with the alligator bites and boudin balls. Then we each ordered the seafood combo wit stuffed shrimp, fried catfish, fried oysters and etouffe. Hubby added bisque and I added gumbo and red beans on the side. Boudin balls had good flavor, as did the gator, which was mildly spicy and tender. The gumbo and the bisque were very good, but, if I had to pick one… we both would choose the bisque. Fried shrimp are really yummy. Fried fish is really yummy. The stuffed shrimp and the stuffed crab were not my favorite. I found the stuffing to be a bit too creamy for my liking. The étouffée was very flavorful although possibly with a hint of too much salt? The portion is huge. Honestly, for two people, order the combo and share it. Especially if you’re ordering the gator. Which you really need to do. The red beans are a bowlful of creamy, smoky goodness. So, now that we’ve had the sampler, next visit I will order the gator, bisque, fried shrimp and red beans. Looking forward to it already!

Usually Good food but the wait is crazy for lunch. I called a to-go order in for lunch. I was told 15 minutes and it would be ready. Now it’s 45 minutes later and still no food. Don’t know who has two hours for lunch but I don’t, neither does my crew. No excuses offered or no compensation offered. Don’t think I’ll be doing this for the office again.

They would have gotten 5 stars but they were out of OYSTERS!!! And the margarita tasted like a war head candy !!! Ok onto the excellent stuff — which was everything else. We had a party of 6 and our waitress was amazing. She anticipated our needs and took care of us all the way. We had the appetizers of boudin balls and alligator! Both I recommend For dinner everything we tried was excellent. I loved loved the soft shell crab and stuffed shrimp and stuffed catfish. Maybe this is a Texas thing(yes we are tourists) but they didn’t bring any sauce out. You had to ask for it … Which was odd but easy to fix. Totally worth the price paid for everything!

We decided we wanted seafood on our stay in Hammond and this was the perfect choice. The char-broiled oysters were excellent. The fried alligator was perfect — I expected that it would turn out tough but it was just right. I had the crab plate and everything was excellent. The shrimp boil was perfect. Many times I find restaurants overcook the shrimp but not here. Everything was prepared beautifully. My only complaint was that it was two for one drink night. We wanted the four of us to have one drink each, but couldn’t convince the waitress that I was one drink and my companion was the other. She insisted we each had to have two, which she didn’t do until we had each finished our drinks and she told us she would be bringing us our second ones.
