I have no idea why people have given this place such unfavorable reviews. I have always known of this steakhouse, but figured it’s in Hammond, so how good could it be?! Well, the answer to that question is DARN good. We began our dinner with a saganaki that was done right! Then we started to place our orders. They had a special for a 2.5 lb bone-in prime rib with potato of your choice, choice of soup, and salad for $ 28.95. Safe to say that’s what I got. I can honestly say that it was one of the best prime ribs I have ever had anywhere else, and I’ve eaten it pretty much anywhere you could think. Just wonderful. My cousin got the king filet which was also very tasty! Excellent, friendly service with fast serving times. Will definitely be back again. This is one of those times where a 3-star rating doesn’t fit the restaurant.

Held a luncheon following my Mom’s funeral. Freddy’s staff was terrific. Food was exceptional, excellent service. Plenty of food and beverages. Guests were able to visit in a private room and stay longer. Extra food was wrapped and nicely packed so we could easily bring the extras home.

Very disappointed in this steakhouse… wanted the prime rib, was told it wasn’t a good idea to order that from the waitress, not a good sign. Apparently they only make prime rib on the weekend, it was available, but left over from Sunday… I don’t think so. Rib eye was recommended, so I tried it… one of the most fatty pieces of meat I have ever had, couldn’t eat it… the upscale twice baked potato was definitely the worse I have ever had, very sour an inedible… I also opted for the salad with the blue cheese dressing and crumbles… a little bit of salad that didn’t fit on the small plate, but that, the bread and the Pinot noir were the best part of the meal… I would never recommend this place… very overly priced and extremely disappointing.

Just go somewhere else. Our order was wrong, food is not all that great, and service is mediocre. I would not go here again. For me it’s extremely outdated and even if I can get past that… I would just go spend my money somewhere else!

I would give 0 stars if I could. Waited 15 minutes to get served 45 minutes for appetizer and after 1 ½ hours never got our food. Then our waitress walked around telling people«it’s not my fault they are upset!» Will NEVER return and don’t recommend this place. It’s a shame because I wanted to take my family out fir a nice steak dinner. Oh ya on top of it for 2 beers and 2 soups she handed us the bill for $ 105 and still charged us for our dinners we NEVERGOT

I didn’t think I’d be so pleasantly surprised but I was! The filet was cooked to perfection and had that melt in your mouth deliciousness that only the best piece of steak can have. We also ordered the Greek style red snapper filet which was prepared just like it is in Greek Town in Chicago. The grilled veggies and potatoes were so tasty with just the right amount of char grill and the twice baked potato was pure culinary awesomeness. I have to say that for an old school steakhouse in Hammond, IN, it is as close to fine dining as you can get without the price you’d pay at Gibsons. We loved our bartender Claudia who was very professional and accommodating and made some delectable libations. As we were preparing to leave, the chef came out to ask us if we enjoyed our dinner and to thank us for our patronage. We will definitely return and I suggest you give it a try.

Nice place good food it’s a nice restaurant the food is pricey considering from the looks of the building and location they are not a top notch ritzy restaurant type of place but the service and quality of food makes up for it. I live in Chicago so it’s kind of far for me but if I’m ever out that way I would go there. They also have a nice bar too as well if you are drinker.

With all the reviews on Unilocal I was actually scared to go there for dinner with my best friend. It was very good service, fast, and she truly cared as a waitress. The steak and appetizers were great. A little expensive but definitely would recommend this restaurant.

I didn’t like the food all that much. The place is dated. I didnt like the water down beverage either. I think Golden Corral is better. Expensive and tough meat. They need to remodel. It’s truthfully not a good value for what you get. I spent over 100 and it wasn’t worth it. Disappointing.

Can’t believe I just can from a steak house that served us a steak rapped in plastic for a reheated steak so no grill marks so when we call them out on it they had nothing to say if it was on a grill it would have burned the plastic what a joke will never go back so they cooked a fresh one and gave us a steak with grill marks like it should have had

I went to Freddy’s today(10÷11÷15) for the first time in almost 10 years. I heard that they had changed owners in the meantime and that the food and service weren’t as good as they once were. And I do have to say that I kind of agree. First let’s start with the service. I was there on a Sunday right when they opened at 3:00pm, so needless to say they weren’t busy at all and it still took an hour to get my meal to my table. Like I said, I’d accept an hour wait if the place was packed, but not with just a few people there! Also, I don’t know if it’s just me, but I remember the twice baked potato being much better back in the day. It also didn’t help that the bottom and the top of the potato was slightly burnt. I had the shrimp Diane for an appetizer and it was pretty good. They still do make a good steak. I had the porterhouse made medium well and it was cooked perfectly. I’ll tell you what’s really B.S. though; Freddy’s is expensive as hell as it is and they have the audacity to charge you extra if you want more bread brought to your table! That right there is enough to keep me from coming back here! They want to charge you almost $ 40.00 bucks for a steak and they can’t give you extra bread?! Everywhere you go nowadays(Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse, etc.) they give you unlimited bread! I wish they had those steak pierogis on the menu that they sell at the Pierogi Fest, those are really good. One thing I don’t get though from reading other peoples reviews is the numerous comments that have been made about the décor. Are there really people out there that put that much stock into how a place looks? Freddy’s décor is kind of dated I’ll admit, but it’s not like the place looks disgusting or nothing. I might go back to Freddy’s, but it would have to take a really good special or a coupon of some sort. In all fairness though, Freddy’s deserves more than a 2−½ star review.

One of the longest waits ever! NOONE in the place other than a few people at the bar. 45 minutes for 1 appetizer and another 30 minutes for Steak Sandwich and Fried Fish. Service needs to step it up and they need to let a little light in the place. Dining area is dark and outdated.

Just had dinner at Freddy’s for my fathers 78th birthday with four other family members. Some good points first. Sirloin Steak, Spaghetti w/Marinara, Fried Chicken, home made salad dressings and hot baked bread were all very good. Service was good(we ate an early dinner at 3:00pm and we were the only patrons in the place) prices for the beef entrees were reasonable given the current three year market highs for that protein. On the other hand, the pricing for the Chicken and Spaghetti were on higher side of the price scale for their respective category’s. Now for the negatives. Went to this restaurant specifically for Prime Rib as it seems to be a non existent menu item or only offered in limited quantities in just about all Northwest IN steak houses for some unknown reason. The Prime Rib is about the most expensive beef item on the menu, but certainly way below the quality expectations of anybody who would order this item at a low budget, low quality steak house. Three people in our party ordered the large cut prime rib, two came out ice cold, one was ordered medium and came out raw rare and cold, sent it back to be re-fired and it came back out medium rare, finally just packed it up and brought it home. The restaurant taughts up that their twice baked potatoes as being really special and popular for a nominal $ 2.50 up charge, save the $ 2.50 for an ice cream down the street for dessert, it’s pretty disappointing, mashed potatoes with cheese piped into half baked potato base, it might have been one of the worst I ever tried and didn’t finish. We did not hate the place, just not sure we would drive past any other place to go there again.

Don’t Ever Eat Here. Ever. My family, including my mom, two kids(a special needs 7 year old) and a 17 month old, my best friend, her mom and my step dad made reservations here for Mothers Day this year. Let’s just say that when we got there the place was busy — but not unreasonably packed. The receptionist did not make eye contact with me for at least 4 minutes while I stood in front of her with my baby. I explained we were here with the XXX Party and she said she was prepping our table. Little did we know, our table had been prepped and the other members of the party were sitting in back. We waited 10 minutes until our party came out and got us. Eventually a waitress came to our table. Everything was bad about this. Every_Single_Part. I did not even have a menu until 30 minutes into the sitting. Firstly, I ordered a Zinfandel(REDWINE) — 15 minutes later she came back with a white Zinfandel. I sent this back and smartly ordered my own bottle of Cabernet as I knew how this evening was starting to look. She disappeared for periods of 20 – 30 minutes at a time during htis dinner. Most of these times we were waiting on food and drinks. Our moms were parched, waiting 40 minutes for their drinks — TWICE. Bar was blamed. When she brought out our salads, she spilled the dressing on my special needs(sensory) child’s head and his security blanket. Of course the dressings were wrong. Kitchen got blamed. She passed hot soup over my baby — numerous times. And forgot an appetizer(which came out after the meal). She placed the lobster butter warmer in front of my baby and shortly thereafter lit the saganaki over my baby’s head and could not put out the flames — blaming the«lemon juice». I was finished with my steak and lobster before the other half of the table received their cold food. Kitchen was blamed. My BFF went up and asked for a manager who blatantly ignored her request for a new waiter. Then the waitress refused to stop«serving» our table. This dinner was $ 400.00. While the food was actually decent, the service was awful and our moms received cold dinners on their special day. If you want to spend a crap ton of money for the worst service known to mankind, you should go here. This is your place for the worst mother’s day meal ever. If you hate your mom, take her here.

This is how dining out should be. We visited Freddy’s for the fourth time last night, 3⁄13 with a 7:30pm reservation for four. We were seated in the Viking room, which according to our AMAAAAAAZING server Nico, has just recently been opened back up after being unused for several years. As other reviewers have noted, the ambiance at Freddy’s takes you back in time. It is old school charm with superbly crafted food. Every single bite was perfection. While the food and surroundings made for a great dining experience, Nico sent us over the top. He offered great suggestions, was completely knowledgeable about the entire menu and history of the restaurant and in general made me want to dine at Freddy’s every single night(I warned him that I may become his stalker). We drive 45 minutes to visit Freddy’s, passing many other options along the way, knowing that it never lets us down.

Freddie’s has always delivered a great product at affordable prices! The staff has always been great and the food is very good… I always get lost in the atmosphere as the lights are nice and slightly dimmed to give the dining experience a certain warmth… It’s a cozy, quiet, elegant steakhouse… and the regulars at the bar are so calm and respectful you are not disturbed by them… many times I forget they’re there Keep up the good work Freddie’s!

Ah Freddy. Where are you? Probably wearing your paisley polyester shirt in heaven. Seriously, you could film a 70s mob movie here and not need any props. I love the décor probably because it hasn’t been touched. I mean the built the place and it has always been that way… they are committed to that interior. The food is as good as any chain restaurant you can get. I’m not expecting Michelin star quality steaks at a place called Freddy’s. If you are YOU need a reality check. Our server was super sweet as we came in the middle of the day before the Friday dinner rush. Steak was good. Real baked potato, check. Onion rings, super fresh. When in Hammond I’ll be at Freddy’s.

First of all the tone of my review was set instantly by our server. Greeting our table with a question about us having coupons, etc was indicative of a complicated condition. We had no coupons, but it immediately cheapened our experience. In general, you can expect a higher level of service and quality on a Monday at many restaurants due to lower attendance. Freddy’s could earn 4 stars on that day if they changed their approach. It seems this business is resigned to accepting its role as a quality steak and twice-baked potato joint ready for more traffic… once they master their message. What I mean is that they control operations conservatively due to these economic times. Ask for more and you get it. Leave disappointed and take some blame home with you. The damning thing about this kitchen is that it doesn’t have an 800+ degree broiler to properly char a medium rare or rare steak. Sigh.

It is hard to describe Freddy’s. Inside looks like it hasn’t changed a stitch since 1955. All the furnishings are very old… the ambiance is relatively dark as are the walls and woodwork. The only money they put into Freddy’s lately is changing the occasional light bulb. But if you can get over the aged appearance, Freddy’s can make you a nice steak. One must remember it is a steakhouse, and an old fashioned one at that. So when you go — order a steak because that is really their specialty. Prices are a bit on the high side … especially for Hammond Indiana … but the steaks are pretty good. Our party had a porterhouse($ 30 and very nice — 3 stars) and two small prime ribs($ 25 each and not good — 2 stars) … the problem with the prime ribs are that they make it uniformly rare and then heat up a slice to hit your doneness factor instead of carving from a whole side of ribs like Lawry’s does it in downtown Chicago — so the prime ribs at Freddy’s are usually greyish. Remember — stick to steaks. The tables are relatively close, so it isn’t the romantic spot to ask your girl to marry you. Service can be problematic and the food sometimes comes out rushed, so just order appetizers before anything else to make sure it doesn’t get rushed by the main course. The bar area is very nice… old world but just what a bar is supposed to look like. Drinks are good too — they don’t short you on the alcohol. Ample parking is available onsite. We will go to Freddy’s again because of the nice steaks, but you can’t go to Freddy’s when you want a quick meal. They take their time … partly because of slow service and partly because you can’t rush a steak … and you should take your time also. If you are ever in Orland Park, try Petey’s II as an alternative steakhouse. Petey put a lot of money into his place and it is a nice looking but old-fashioned dining experience … right down to the real tablecloths.

This place is over the top old school, dated, retro, etc… and I like it that way. It definitely looks like they have made zero changessince Freddys opened the doors 40 years ago, but they arent arguing with that and neither am I. They do a great steak, they do a great oyster rockefeller, their soups and salads are classic and sometimes that is just what you are in the mood for. We went on a Sunday and the place was packed. Service was a touch slow but hey, these ladies have probably been here since the place opened. My only suggestion/wish…bring back the full relish tray… that nostaliga loss was a heartbreaker for me. I missed seeing the pickled vegs, beets, cottage cheese and bean salad, that would have really taken it up a notch.
