If it wasn’t for convenience I probably would not shop here. There are a lot of products that are out of stock and some of the employees are very rude and ignorant towards customers. Despite these setbacks there are some good workers there such as Matt in electronics and the greeter who has been there since I was a kid! Calling the store is a hassle, you are left on hold for ages and if you eventually talk to someone they act as if you are bothering them. Bottom line: there are Walmarts out there that are much better than this one and I would not mind traveling farther for a better experience.

Anyone who lived in Hammonton before Walmart probably remembers the only choice was Jamesway. Ah yes, Jamesway, Hammonton, where shelves were never restocked, usually empty, and the mean spirited cashier with coke bottle glasses and short white hair would actually ridicule what you were purchasing. Flashback 1990 — After going through the store, followed by an «undercover» security person, I finally found a gift for my wife. We were just starting out at the time and pretty much poor. But I found a jewelry box I thought she’d like and brought it to the register for checkout. The always angry aged cashier with coke bottle glasses and short white hair scanned it and as usual, the price was unknown. I told her the price. She in turned looked at the item down her nose as if it was a dried pile of dog feces and said, «Are you sure you want this?» God forbid this woman would have to find out the price. God forbid you could actually purchase something in Hammonton without being made felt like a subhuman. So what’s this have to do with the Walmart we now have the misfortune of having in Hammonton? Well, when it first opened we had high hopes. We thought, finally there’d be an alternative to Jamesway, or driving 30 minutes to Berlin, or if really desperate, having to go to one of the local small shops and be treated like used toilet paper because you weren’t an Italian. So we waited with high hopes. Eventually it opened. By then Jamesway had deservedly went out of business along with many of the local stuck-up condescending local shops. Thank God. But the first visit was a precursor to what would follow to this day. We went there, filled a cart with items and proceeded to checkout. Who was the cashier? The same mean cashier with coke bottle glasses and short white hair that worked at Jamesway. **cue twilight zone music**. Since then it’s continued to remain at the same level of suck and has grown even worse with each year that passes. Once the warm weather hits, it’s almost impossible to get through an aisle due to the overwhelming influx of illegal migrant workers that congregate there to cool off. I remember hearing an out of towner ask the other«What country are we in?» Something I’ve often asked myself. The poor service continues. Many registers, but only 1 or 2 are opened at a time. You can stand at the paint counter for someone to mix your paint, but you’ll probably be ready for retirement by the time someone comes to help. And if they do, just pray it’s one of the select few that actually learned the highly advanced skill of mixing paint. Same thing if you need a key made. In short, Walmart Hammonton, the hope of all who have been defecated on by Jamesway and the aloof conceited owners of small shops, is just a magnified version of all that sucked in the past. But, then again, it stays in business for one reason — people will put up with their extremely low level of service in order to avoid driving to Berlin.

This Walmart is small but efficient, clean and has a self checkout which makes the whole shopping process quicker. Staff was friendly and pointed us in direction of where we needed to go for our product.

This Walmart is the same size but has less of a selection than the Walmart I am used to in Rio Grande, NJ. There is no self check-out(which I usually take advantage of) and the lines back up here. It does however have most of the items I need, is close to my home and the prices are obviously very low so I continue to shop here. I’ve also noticed that the parking lot seems to be a social gathering for many people. It’s not uncommon to see several groups of people gathered around vans or trucks here.
