We checked out a new Vietnamese restaurant that opened near us a few months ago, Phở 79 Bar and Grill. I was told that these numbers following these Phở restaurants are all about«lucky numbers and good fortune.» A new one opened earlier last year in Newport News called Phở 83. Although the menus of all these Phở restaurants look pretty much the same, the décor of the three Phở restaurants I visited are completely different. The new one looks the fanciest of all three restaurants in the vicinity. Perhaps it is because they are so new and just opened, but they seem to present themselves as welcoming and inviting. The interior decoration was appealing, and the staff were diverse and pleasant. On this occasion, my sometimes grubbing partner and I had take-out. My meal, shown below, was a larger-than-normal soup called Hu Tieu, a pork broth soup with egg noodles and a meat of my choice. My grubbing partner got the noodles with beef – that wasn’t a soup. There was plenty to go around. I look forward to returning to take in the interior surroundings and the super large TV over the bar.

I love this place. I’ve been coming to the Pho79 restaurants since they first opened on the Southside in Virginia Beach, where I grew up. So naturally when I moved to the Peninsula, I had to find the nearest phở place which was Phở 79 in NN. Then I saw signage that there would be a pho79 bar and grill in Hampton not far from where we lived and we’re excited. I’ve been coming here now since they’ve opened at least 1 – 3 times a week. This past week was already 4 times. The food is good. The staff is attentive. Portion sizes are good as well. The only 2 things I have not tried are the hot pots«Lau» and the banh mi sandwiches as I’m gluten free. Basically I live this place and the food. No complaints. Oh, and top off your trip with a boba tea!!! My fav is mango!

We were there for a Marriage Retreat and a friend of ours wanted to go. I wasn’t sure if it was the greatest choice… turned out to be incredible. Staff was fun, great environment to catch up with old friends. I’d definitely go back. Great place!

This place has a great atmosphere and I’m not 100% sure, but I think it is family owned and operated. I really felt taken care of here, more than 1 person helped me and brought me what I needed and the food was delicious. I also had a thai tea, which I LOVE and although I’ve had better thai tea, what I got here was nothing to complain about. The portions are more than enough at a reasonable price, I got eggs rolls, thai and hot tea and a small bowl of phở and my check after taxes was $ 25. Good deal! The music station the play here is relaxing and not too loud that you can’t think. I’m definitely coming back! AND props to whatever air freshener they had in the ladies room, it was delicious smelling!!!

Had chicken phở and spring rolls. Very tasty. I’m no expert, but it was enjoyable, clean, and gives a military discount. A winner all around!

First visit to this outlet as we always tried the main outlet along Jefferson Avenue. The décor is newer and more conducive for gathering, though one might think that the lighting could be brighter. There is a wider selection of food and I was glad to find out that they serve rocket shrimp. Prices wise, it is slightly pricier compared to the one at Jefferson Avenue(around $ 0.30−0.50 more) but the food quality maintained the same standard. We ordered a mixed beef Phở, a spicy beef thick vermicelli soup and a rocket shrimp. Everything was delicious especially the rocket shrimps as it is rather hard to find restaurants serving this(not even the one along Jefferson Avenue) not to mention it was good!

So glad they opened this restaurant. Jefferson is far for some noodle soup. Sooo here I go! Not to long this time. 1. Love the atmosphere. It’s absolutely lovely inside. They also have a full bar at this location. 2. The staff at the Hampton location is a lot more friendly than the one in Newport News. 3. I’ve ordered togo 3 or 4 times and haven’t had anything missing from it. Unlike every time I ordered togo in Nn, something was always missing. 4. The Food is mostly the same as other Pho79 locations. However I’ve noticed that they use basil in their bún noodle dishes(b1-b-8) instead of cilantro. I prefer the cilantro. Overall I love this new location and happy I have a Pho79 near the house. Recommended!

Not bad, not great. The broth wasn’t as delicious as I’d hoped, but the veggie phở came with lots of ingredients. Maybe I missed something when ordering that stated the veggie phở had a non-beef broth. My boyfriend, however, had a noodle soup with a pork — based broth and absolutely loved it. I still had leftovers for a late nite snack and enjoyed it twice.

My second trip there, I decided to try the bahn mi lemon grass beef sandwich, green tea boba tea, and shrimp and onion rolls(they look like lumpia with a shrimp tail) the sandwich was awesome. The shrimp rolls were OK, the boba was ok, I couldn;t tell if real milk was used tho and it was more like a frozen slush than the typical bob drink im used to.

Awesome service. The young lady at the bar(don’t know her name) but she is from England. She is a shining example of great customer service! When you first walk in, it is such a clean environment and a breath of fresh air. I love phở and I am currently doing a take out order… cannot wait to get my order, will post pictures.

This place is delicious! Their phở is so good and authentic! I order it with just thin slices of rare sirloin. I’m also a huge fan of their Bo loc lac… I hope I’m spelling that correctly, however, it is Vietnamese sizzling beef and it’s amazing! I would give 5 stars, but out of the two times I’ve been the service has been very mediocre.

Phở 79 Hampton is pretty good, makes me remember when I was a kid have Phở for the first time. I had the Phở Ga, chicken soup. If you are a noob that is how you judge the restaurant by getting their Phở Ga. If its good then you can’t go wrong with the rest. I absolutely recommend to anyone fan of Vietnamese food. I’ll be coming back. Thank you staff for being so nice and friendly to us.

I have mixed feelings about this place. The chicken phở was delicious and I was delighted that this location serves the appetizer size, however the bean sprouts had an off chemical taste to them. The fresh spring rolls were just okay and it was nice of them to switch up the dipping sauce for me as I don’t like the peanut sauce. I had a problem with the place itself. The lighting is extremely odd. It’s very dark inside as the table lamps are dimly lit but at the same time there are these little overhead spotlights that literally blind you while loud, high on the treble music plays. Definitely not a good mix for anyone who suffers from migraines!

Phở is so perfect for cold and rainy days… A little pricey but they have a genius app size phở so you don’t feel sick after! Clean, friendly staff and great food. Very close to Langley AFB. Ordered a banh mi to go after for ~$ 6

Friendly and courteous staff, my wife and I had the #11 Shrimp phở with extra shrimp, egg rolls and sugar cane shrimp which she really didn’t care for. ah well can’t like everything. This was her first time and it didn’t disappoint will return soon next time I will grab a Boba tea.

I had the chicken phở with shrimp spring rolls 4 a appetizer. Soup was delicious, presentation was great & price was reasonable. Service was a little slow & they forgot put my appetizer order in so I ended up getting it free. Atmosphere was good and the restuarant was spotless clean. I’ll definitely be back especially during the winter months. Would’ve gotten 5 starts if service was better.

I’d say this is place is one of the cleanest phở places I’ve been to! It’s one of those small restuarant but the décor tops it off. I was here with a friend of mine grabbing a quick lunch. The food — bun bo hue and fried chicken. The bun ho hue lack the taste of how the soup supposed to taste like. It’s one of those type of meal that you can eat but won’t bother to order again. The fried chicken is a typical fried chicken. The staff — I did enjoy the service. The server was very attentive and friendly. I’d be back again but this time I’ll try their phở.

Well, I have been a fan of Phở ever since I discovered its existence about 4 years ago. Pho79 showed up here on the Peninsula in Newport News last year now this NEW store only a couple of miles from me in Hampton. Very nice restaurant and atmosphere, so clean, very nice staff and an AWESOMEBAR! I was her with my daughter for her birthday lunch, she had beef and shrimp kabobs, with rice, salad and some sort of dipping sauce. It was very good except for the dipping sauce, it was over powering with fish sauce. I had to rinse my mouth with water after tasting it. I had the beef and tenderloin Phở. It was nice and hot! The broth was AWESOME and the meat was tender. It needed more vermicelli for my taste but it got the job done. Really good food and the price was right. Phở is good now that it is getting cooler outside.
