I previously celebrated this location because of the employees but I can do this no longer. Drive thru employees here are grifters who run the«change scam.» They don’t give you your change back and claim that you gave them the exact while they pocket the money. This happened a couple of months ago and I let it go because I wasn’t quite sure I gave them the larger bill to break but since then, I carefully look at the bills I pay with. Case in point: yesterday my bill was $ 5.30 and i paid with a $ 20 bill, a quarter and five pennies expecting $ 15 back. The lady at the window gives me my food but not my change. I let her know that I’m waiting for my change and she denies that I’m due any change. Scammed! I was asked to pull into the parking lot while they count the drawer. If this happens to you, do not do this but rather plug that drive thru by putting your car in park and refuse to move until they give you your change. I figure they can be honest and do the right thing or you can bring their business to a halt. I wasn’t even provided a receipt with my purchase. This tells me that perhaps the cook and the drive thru cashier are running the scam together. He makes the food, she doesn’t ring up the purchase and pockets the money, the till is never touched as if the purchase never happened and they split the money later. All that’s missing is a little inventory which in the food business is simply written off every night as «throw away.» Of course they count the drawer and the till is balanced because the employee has the cash in her pocket. I asked why the manager doesn’t insist that the employee in question empty her pockets, purse, jacket, etc. when in question but she said she is not allowed to do that. So employees know that if they steal money, keep it on their person and the till is right, they get away with their cash scam. This isn’t right at all and demonstrates the need for Checkers to be able to protect its customers from unethical employees. The shift manager Oriyu was very nice but alas she has no real authority in these matters and since Checkers runs with small crews, they can get away with this. Corporate is being notified because theft is not acceptable.

EDIT: They sent me an automated response saying they strive for the best or some BS that basically meant that they don’t care that their employees tamper with peoples food. Don’t eat at the Hamtramck checkers unless you want to end up with an STD/food born illness inside your body. Years ago an employee pubed my order and this place is still operating. I ordered bacon cheese fries with no cheese, just fries and bacon and they made it with cheese. I checked before I drove away and asked politely for it to be fixed. The female drive thru employee apologized and offered a fountain drink for the mistake. I watched her fill the drink to the top and pick up a lid and carry my full drink around the corner and out of site with the lid in her hand and then return with the lid on the drink about 20 seconds later. I found this suspicious and opened the lid on the drink to see pubic hair on top of the ice, not floating inside but 75% out of the liquid, placed on top. I wasn’t rude, I was not given what I ordered and she tried to punish me for causing her to have to do her job. I am only writing this now after realizing that my complaint was never answered, years later.

It must have been a bad day. and they wanted to take it out on me. Due to a bad restaurant experience I left hungry so I wanted to stop by checkers for a late night snack. Went to the drive thru — they were friendly, gave me time to order. But when I got to window I asked her why my bill was so high she gave me a attitude and then when I ask to have 1 of the fries removed, she slammed the window and mouthing off after. I told her please, thank you and I’m sorry showing her respect and she had no customer service skills and no HOMETRAINING. Where I come from if you respect the people that is serving you and you are nice you should get that back since it’s your money paying there minimum wage salaries. Forsure won’t be going to that Checkers again! I rather drive to dear born or Warren to get better service. When I arrived home the burger buns was not toasted, the onions where slimy not cooked all the way, and the bacon was undercooked. NEVERAGAIN!

Between Checkers and McDonalds, I think McDonalds would win! The good part — I absolutely love the fries! And because it’s a drive thru restaurant, you get it all so fast. Now, back to the fries. It’s so distinguished from all the other fast food fries out there. I dont know the spices and blend of seasoning they put on them, but theyre the best. The fish sandwich is great too! Very good on a summer day! The bad — The drive through has pot holes, and the out door seating is out dated. The pricing on the menu is a bit unusual too. If something is 2/$ 2 then it should be a dollar a piece, but its not. For example, their chicken/fish sandwich are 2/$ 2. If you order 2, then you get them for a $ 1 each. But if you order 1, then you pay $ 1.90. It will be the full original price, which makes no sense. But I guess it’s a corporate thing. Craving fries? Go to a Checkers!

The workers are friendly and spot-on with your order. I can ride up on my bicycle anytime except for the early morning(when I’m rarely up anyway) and pick up a meal to take with me or eat at their outdoor tables. They’ve got delicious banana shakes, wings of different flavors, seasoned fries and burgers that, for fast food, are pretty good. This place blows McDonald’s out of the water. Three stars for fast food is like five stars for a full service restaurant. Checker’s ain’t half bad.
