Oh NO! My parents and I went here every year. The ambiance was Polish grandma tsotzki and the food was Polish grandma YUM. I will miss this place.

Nearby Kopytko closed this past fall and now Under the Eagle closes. Very sad. Hamtramck lost two businesses that had great food and very nice people. This isn’t your father’s Hamtramck that’s for sure. It’s continuing to change every day.

Great place – note that its closed on Wednesday and street parking ONLY(with only a few spots out front available). Here is where you can find authentic no frills Polish food. Its always hopping when we are here. Good food with large portion sizes. Not quite the atmosphere of Polish Village but makes up for it in yummy fresh food.

Under the Eagle is somewhere between 3 – 3.5. It’s very no frills and I loved what I ordered this past Sunday with my ‘lil«Pole/Mick» crew. I decided on the Breaded Pork Chops and they were just awesome. My dinner came with a comforting cup dill pickle soup. My Sassy lil lunch buddy ordered the combo plate, of course I stole some bites and the kielbasa and crepes are definitely worth going back for. We also enjoyed freshly made(like they were being done as we walked in) pierogies. Hamtramck is very fascinating to me, it’s a colourful area that I will definitely visit again!

Gotta agree with some other folks here… BLAND, baby! The too-bright«metal chairs in Grandma’s basement» style digs would be ok if the place was an amazing gem food-wise.which it sadly isn’t. Small menu with few veggie options, there was one poor waitress going nuts trying to take care of a packed house while we all waited forever(this has happened twice now) and bland, mediocre vittles! I wanted to love it. I mean it’s a Ma & Pa, it’s certainly cheap, but alas. I will instead go to Polonia for consistent goodness.

I’d give this a solid 3.5 stars, earning it a silver star in the Polish dining olympics of: — Polonia(Gold) — Under the Eagle(close second) — Polish Village The service is hands down the best of the 3. I had the nalisniki(crepes) which were great. My wife and others all had the combo plate which my wife liked but thought was a little less interesting than Pollish Village. I didn’t care for the duck soup as much as Polonia — but I think that’s because of the(authentic) thickening using blood. It was a little rich for me, but had a nice flavor with a hint of tartness and pieces of duck. For me, it has much nicer atmosphere and«vibe» than Polish Village and again, great service. The owner is sitting at the back table and she is actively keeping her eye on the place.

Went for dinner there on 8÷1÷09 and wasn’t impressed with the food. Everything was bland — no seasoning. City chicken needed garlic and onions added. Drinks were so-so. Anyone can make a 7&7 but what I received was nasty. Driving all the way from Brighton jst to sample supposedly«original» Polish cuisine was a waste of time & $$. Being a 100% Pole, I’ll just continue making my own«true & original» Polish food as I was taght by my great grandmother.

It’s OK. I’ve been to all three Hamtown Polish restaurants, as befits a resident, and I like Polonia best. What I love about The Eagle are the mushroom nalishniki(crepes). They will even satisfy the most insatiable mushroom lovers! The restaurant now has a liquor license, and prices have gone up a bit. I do miss the days when you could carry in your own brew, but one must accept progress. I’m sure it’s better for the restaurant. We always seem to get the slowest, rudest waitress in the place. Just bad luck, but with two other great Polish restaurants in town, we just don’t have this on the radar anymore. Banquet facilities are upstairs.

Hands down the best Polish food next to Grandma’s. It’s a little bit of a drive for me however it’s worth it! Don’t get to excited about the location, building or interior… They saved all of the TLC for the food. There is ample parking across the street. The signage is easily miss-able so keep your eyes open. If your a first timer to Polish food start with the pierogi, this was a staple for me growing up!
