Looked up this place on Unilocal and was looking forward to something other than the travaasa hotel restaurant, but we couldn’t find it. So we stopped in the hasegava general store and asked where we could get breakfast… Only place was the hotel. Maybe they are only open in the busy tourist season.

There is nothing we love more then learning about the people in the places we visit. And you certainly will coming here for breakfast. Simple bacon and eggs will be served which hit the spot. Thanks for the chat we will be back!

Phyllis, also referred to as the Queen Eggie herself, was very genuine and an interesting person to get to know. The place is laid back and serves egg breakfast which I always love. The plus was that she put tons of veggies into the omelette and was a great conversationalist. It was apparent how much the others who live in Hana love her and the sense of comeraderie that they have just put a smile on my face. I left feeling satisfied and happy to have gone to such a unique place in Hana.

I’ll go back to Hana just to eat another Eggy Queen Omelet and have a chat with Phyllis and Betty. And I live in Boston. Uncle Bills is a shining beacon of breakfast hope. An outdoor seating area greets you, and you’ll meet Phyllis on an empty stomach. She’s the Eggy Queen. I think that is a misspelling of «edgy». Maybe not, she makes an omelette that will get you off to a proper start, with some good coffee and a side of banter. Uncle bills has love, dirty poetry, proper décor, and wonderful people. If you are wonderful people, you should go there. Give yourself a few days in Hana. There is much and more to do and see there. I ended up staying an extra night and wishing for more.

Oh my god!!! You have to check this place out. It looks like nothing but don’t be turned away. Sit down and enjoy the ride. Delicious food and incredible charm. Phylllis is an absolute trip! Great personality. She puts on a god show but don’t be fooled… she’s a total softy. Hooked us up with some fresh tangerines from a tree we sat under. Thanks hot stuff.

Some of the best parts of traveling is the people you meet and the fun you have. Stopping at Uncle Bills will defiantly fill both of those requirements and you get some food to boot! Phyllis is the reason to go to Uncle Bills. Sure there is food, its just basic eggs and bacon or pancakes, but you can get that anywhere. Getting to have breakfast with Phyllis is a special treat. She serves us breakfast basics, and some items may be unavailable if Costco is closed when she does her food shopping! We had a blast hanging and getting to chat with her before other customers showed up. I wished that we had more time to chat with her. Milk for your coffee is served in a «tit» pitcher. There was a very prim and proper lady at the wagon and she did not respond to the tit comment so Phyllis said the«breast mug» and the woman about choked. Phyllis says what she wants and how, but this is what makes her so great. She is not open weekends, a lot of places in Hana are not, but if its a weekday and the sign says closed, you should still give it a shot, she seems to like to play with the signs just to see what happens. Phyllis is one of a kind, brash and wild, but actually there is a heart of gold in there. She helps the local women, fund raises for women’s causes and is a writer as well. Food is basic, priced very well and served very casually. Spend some time at Uncle Bills, get some food and get to know Phyllis, you will be a better person for it.

Did the«other road» to Hana as we’ve done in the past. Looking for a wallet-friendly place for breakfast since we had the kids. Saw the wonderful reviews and knew this would be fun. Phyllis delivered all that was expected. The kids LOVED her! Restaurants normally have crayons and a kid’s menu for them to keep busy. Phyllis brought out a caboodle full of nail polish and let the kids paint our breakfast table! Of course we joined in. Hunter had to think quickly as she asked him to fetch her cell phone when it rang. She did run out of bread for toast and her friend apparently did not drive. My girlfriend quickly volunteered and off they went. The atmosphere is very laid back and very fun. The other patrons were having a blast as well. The kids want to return on every trip to Maui. So glad we found Phyllis. To comment on another reviewer’s comment about pricing? Good luck finding anything LESS expensive in Hana!!! $ 10 is NOTHING! We spent nearly $ 100 for two at Trevasa for breakfast 2 years ago! Thanks again Phyllis, and good luck with your obvious success!

We stopped here as it was one of the few places in Hana to get some breakfast. The lady that runs it is from NYC and has the attitude to go with it. The food was decent, but nothing to brag about. We were there as she was just opening and she handed me the silverware which was still all soapy. Sanitary conditions are highly questionable here. There aren’t many places to eat breakfast in Hana, so you don’t have a lot of options, but I would definitely not recommend this place. Also be prepared for profanities to be coming out like a sailor, so I would definitely not go here if you have kids.

If you like filthy poetry, great breakfast and entertaining stories go to Uncle Bill’s for breakfast. My fiancé ordered the loco moco and I ordered the bagel sandwich with bacon, cheese and egg. The gravy on the loco moco was on point and the bagel sandwich was delicious. Phyllis was running the show by herself; taking orders, cooking, cleaning, and entertaining. She will have you laughing during your whole breakfast but at the same time is very informational. Her hospitality is like no other in more ways than one. She is definitely one of a kind and can’t not be found anywhere else. Because of Phyllis, we have to decided to come here every time we make our way to Hana.

Four stars, yes, and 90% because if you want locals, this is the place. This is about as local as you can get. The place is pretty much a shack on the side of the road, but for me on the day I went(June 17, 2012), it was perfect. It felt more like I was eating with old friends at their house on the front porch than a restaurant(which is more literal than you may think!). I had just completed a few miles of hiking at the nearby state park and the bacon & eggs and coffee was exactly what I was looking for. I have easily had better bacon & eggs at home every weekend, but the fun locals and beautiful area(you get a nice view straight up into the mountains) makes this worth the quick stop. If you don’t care to mingle with the Maui locals, do not stop here.

Came here to shoot the breeze with some of the friendly hippie locals. Quirky place to sit and just melt into the surroundings. We had the waffle breakfast sandwich and it was as delicious as it gets! Coffee was good and it came in a mug that has a picture of ‘bama’s Hawaiian birth certificate. Cream for the coffee came out of a boobie mug. This place is a must if you’re in Hana for breakfast! Hours are odd… I believe it’s 7am-1pm on most days…

Eggies with a side of sassitude? Yes please! Phyllis is awesome. Loved this spot, loved some perspective & loved a few stories that made me belly-laugh. Most of all I loved coffee in a Darth Vader mug.

Phyllis, Lambert and their kids are the best. Food is hawaiian all the way down to the black coffee and the incredible conversations that goes on there. All the islander on Hana are friendly as can be. I will have to post photos of their jacuzzi !!! or Lambert’s gazillion mopeds but as Phyllis says, only one ass to ride them. the LocoMoco iz da bomb! Come for the heart attack specials and stay for one of the friendliest family like experience you will have on Maui. Make the drive to Hana and enjoy the this family outing. And don’t forget to contribute to Phyllis’ boob job savings cup !

Food and coffee are great! Laid back Hana vibe is perfect. I won’t have breakfast anywhere else when visiting Hana. Don’t let the appearance fool you, this place is awesome. You won’t find someone with more personality than Phyllis. Truly one of a kind.

Phyllis and her cooking skills are one of a kind! I had the waffle breakfast sandwich, which I could not have been any happier with… that is until I tried my boyfriend’s loco moco. Oh my God; that was… I’m not even sure I have words for how great it was. I’ve never been so jealous of someone else’s meal! You’re in for a good time too; Phyllis is hilarious! She likes to butter, salt, and syrup… if you want cheese, be prepared to go into her kitchen and find it. Don’t grab the wrong one either! And I have to say, I like cheese on pretty much everything… but her food is so good that I never missed the cheese. We had an awesome meal, and a good time too. My boyfriend and I are both smart-asses, but we had nothin on Phyllis! I don’t think we ever stopped laughing while we were there. This was my favorite breakfast in Maui!

One of the highlights of our trip to Maui. We drove the Hana Highway, saw many amazing sights, spent the night in Hana, and planned to get an early start to squeeze in as much as possible on the drive back. I had low expectations for dining in Hana, but my wife talked me into trying Bill’s for breakfast, which she chose based on a goofy sign she spotted on the highway(two smiley face eggs, over easy). I was NOT disappointed. Great breakfast, great atmosphere, and hilariously charming repartee from your cook/hostess Phyllis. She gets all her guests laughing and mingling, locals and tourists, young and old. We ended up getting a much later start on the drive back, but it was very much worth it. As stephen N. wrote, not necessarily for the weak or insecure, but the ribbing is never mean spirited, and although she has a tendency towards blue language, Phyllis cleans it up when little ones arrive. And, we had the special rare privilege of meeting Uncle Bill himself!

After the tsunami wave threat had passed, we were very tired and hungry. Phyllis handled our hunger and soothed my grumpy mood with a flair for her work. The food is basic, but well made and very reasonably priced. I definitely recommend.

You can take the girl out of Charlestown(MA), but you can’t take Charlestown out of the girl… which is a lucky thing for all of us! Phyllis and her family are the real McCoy, and her hospitality, cooking, attitude, and quick wit are a great find in this neighborhood. She took care of 8 hungry guys at the crack of dawn and did it with great flair — at a GREAT price. Skip the fancy hotel and get real at Uncle Bill’s.

Hana is one of those special places that attract characters from all over the world and many of them break their fasts at Uncle Bill’s. Born & raised Hawaiians mix & share easily with turistas & immigrants from the mainland, so you can easily begin to learn about the people who live in this beautiful, wet place(Hana is in rain forest, so come prepared). Phyllis is your eggy hostess, very welcoming, charming & sharing — it is her magnetism that really makes the place come alive for everyone. When you go to Hana, you have to stop here(and it’s breakfast only) — you will be missing out if you don’t!
