The Rice Bowl

We were looking for good Chinese food and after looking at some of the good & bad reviews on Unilocal we decided to try Rice Bowl. OMG, what a mistake this was. We should have paid closer attention to the bad reviews here on Unilocal.
First off, the place was only about full when we sat down. We waited for maybe 10 mins before they brought us menus. The after at least 15 more mins before they took our order. After sitting there for 30 mins they at long last brought of water. We notice others looking around for their orders, water, menus, etc. So we at least didn’t feel picked on.
Another 30 mins went by and no food. We have now been there for about 1 hour and no food and nobody has offer an explanation or even refilled our water glasses. Nearly another 30 mins go by and our meal arrived after being at our table for 1.5 hours.
Now the food. OMG (again). Let’s just say it’s the worst Chinese food I’ve had ever anywhere in the world. The food was not seasoned right, cold, and had an odd smell. We couldn’t eat it. We asked for the manager and waited another 10 mins and a lady came out from the kitchen and we told her of our long wait and the bad food. We were told that others like the food and that we just wanted to complain. What? We just left and will never go back there again. Never had we been so disappointed in a restaurant is all our life.

Great food, and fantastic service, and reasonable prices! I would recommend the fried shrimp to anyone! I love the lunch specials. My waitress always has a great sense of humor. I have been coming here, even at the old location, for many, many years. I was sold on the flavor and hospitality in the 80’s! Come check it out, it is by far the nicest Asian food restaurant in Hanford!

I continue to go here even though we have many more choices in chinese quisine. I have discovered a new favorite item. The Rice Bowl Noodle bowl which is chock full of fresh vegetables, shrimp, pork, and chicken. Its a guge portion so you probably wont eat it all. I’m having to watch what i eat and thus is one item i dont gave to feel guilty eating and its delicious. The owner Stella will also tell you they will alter their ingredients to meet your dietary needs so you can always find something that will fit in your diet. Dont listen to the 1 star negatives theres always a complainer and of course servers vary so dont judge on just one experience. And by the way that pork the guy complained about being freezer burned… hes a fool… the meat supposed to be the way it appears its gone through a candying process thats famous in most Chinese restaurants and is well sought after. If the guy wants fresh cut pork like pork chops go to Black Bear Diner not a chinese restaurant.

Lunch Specials are a great value, $ 7 plus. Broccoli Beef sounds nutritious. The Main Boss Lady is super nice, she asks how my work associates are doing and tells me to tell them to come eat here more often. I told them Boss Lady asked about them. The Rice Bowl is a neat Asian Place and really good food is icing on the cake. I will be back, if you don’t like this place for downtown Hanford lunch let them know through Unilocal

ZERO STARS! The food was disgusting AND expensive! We literally ate after! The service was horrible too and they DON’t have a fountain drink dispenser. Like really bottled soda and no free refills, we WON’T b back!

Took my brother and his family here after visiting our Mom in the hospital. We ordered our food and had just been served our soup when my 15 year old niece went to got to the bathroom to wash her hands. She was trying to get the paper towel dispenser to work when she heard the toilet flush. An employee came out of the stall and helped her un jam the paper-​towel dispenser. The girl then exited the bathroom WITHOUT washing her hands. My niece came back to the table to tell us and then through the double doors we could see the employee working in the kitchen. I asked to speak to the manager. A young girl came out and when I asked to see the manager. She immediately said «your food is almost ready». I said. that I was sorry we would not be eating there and told her why. They went to speak to the employee and came back and said «She went into the bathroom to just button her pants». I then said that if she was in the stall and had touched the door, etc then she was required to wash her hands (keep in mind my niece HEARD the toilet flush). The young girl (wearing shorts and sandals) said «she doesn’t cook the food, she just washes the dishes» to which I replied that she had to touch the clean dishes when removing from the dishwasher. They did not get it at all. I said to the young girl that this was how people got food poisoning to which she replied «I have had food poisoning 7 times and I have a college degree» She was under the impression that food poisoning was not a serious issue. I asked for the owners name and they refused. We left and I called from my car to ask for the manager or owners name and the guy that came on the phone Started to argue with me. He wanted to justify that she didn’t actually USE the bathroom and that she only washed dishes and when I refused to buy this excuse he told me to «F-​off» three times and hung up on me. I will be calling the health department first thing tomorrow and would advise people to use caution when dining here. Unlike the young lady, I have not had food poisoning 7 times, JUST ONCE and that was ONE too many times. It is miserable and can be extremely dangerous. Please be careful when dining here

I ordered to go with no problem. Picked up for two but it looked like I was feeding 4. Haha awesome! The food tasted pretty good. Placed looked clean and not run down. There was lots of people that seemed like regulars since they knew people that work there by name. Will try it again!

Best Chinese food in Hanford ever, every time we come up here to visit I have to eat here

The food was not good. I asked about their salt and pepper shrimp if the shrimp was the whole shrimp. The shrimp wasn’t whole. But I guess they misunderstood me. It was made with green pepper instead of jalapeños. Overall the plates sucked. Food wasn’t good. The simple food of teriyaki chicken was salty and not good. Service was bad. Our original server didn’t even bring any drinks and the other lady had to pick up her slack. The one good server was nice and good at her job and should be the only worker there.

I have been here lots of times my friend Stella works here and she has not seen me in a while I will come back

After sitting down, it took nearly 10 minutes just to be asked for our drink order. When it takes so long for a server to even recognize you walked in, things will only get worse, and boy did it. When the server can’t remember what was ordered things got much worse.
So the Appetizer Platter (menu item) finally arrived. The bbq was at least 15 days old and freezer burnt. You could easily see this in the rings of discoloration in the meat. Since the server did not come back to the table, I took the meat to the counter. I asked the owner why the pork was served not only cold but freezer burnt. Her response, took me back to our table and took the platter and said «we don’t serve you.» This is Friggin America. Don’t try to screw over your customers. And BTW, I have started a complaint with the city.

Last night was the first bad experience here. I’ve always loved the food and could not complain about the service… but last night was a different story. Something has changed about the food and I don’t like it. And the service was terrible. Waited at least 35 mins. for our food to be totally disappointed, and had to ask for water refills.

Authentic Chinese, good prices and plenty of food. The menu is huge. I always ask for extra spicy.

I very much enjoy the food here. A friend of mine showed it to me a while back. I always get «Dinner C». The only things I don’t like in it is the curry shrimp, but whoever I’m with usually loves it (:

We went to The Rice Bowl the Monday evening for Christmas and there is nothing at all good to say about this restaurant. We ordered Kung Pao chicken and it was so salty that you could not even eat it but on top of that there was no peanut. We asked to speak to the owner and she told us that too many people don’t like peanuts so they don’t use them. The other dish that we ordered was Curry tomato pork chow mein and it did not even have any tomatoes in the dish. To top it all off we asked to speak to the owner again and was told that she had gone home but when we went to pay the bill we could see her sitting in the kitchen. Not only was the food no good but they lied to us about her not being there. If you are wise you will stay away!!!

Service is horrible. I asked for a refill on my water and never got it. Maybe if I had asked for something they charge for, they would have responded to my request. They are unorganized and do not have enough help to run this place.
Chinese food is not my favorite food in the world. Their food really confirms my perceived feeling about Chinese food. We ate here because my wife wanted Chinese food. This experience should satisfy that craving for about … 10 years.

The food was good, the prices are reasonable, portions are huge. The service was excellent, hot sauces were good so you should try it.

I usually prefer to go to Hong Kong, just cause I am a creature of habit, however on this day they were closed. So… I went to the my 2^nd choice the Rice Bowl which is pretty good too. Only ever had one bad experience here, but it wasnt anything too traumatic ;)
