I opted for a sub at Quiznos instead of a sandwich at Roy Rogers because I figured it would be marginally healthier. The sub was good — $ 7.77 for an 8″ specialty sub, a price I considered reasonable for a food court on a toll highway. The staff were efficient and friendly, the dining area was bright and clean. It’s a good choice for a meal. But then there’s the beverages. The girl at the counter asked if I wanted anything to drink. I said I couldn’t see any sign for beverages. She pointed to the fountain cups(2 sizes, large and behemoth) and the soda fountain on the other side of the dining area. Guess what, NOPRICES. Then she pointed to the cooler with bottled water, iced tea, and juices. Guess what, NOPRICES. You know what that means? It means the prices are most likely higher than they want you to realize. My experience has been that this is not uncommon in food courts where one place has fountain beverages and the others do not. Typically your fountain beverage will be a bit higher than average to offset the cost when people ordering drinks at other places in the food court come here for free refills — which is really bogus anyway, since the profit margin on fountain sodas is already ridiculously high. So enjoy a good sub here. If you need a soda, expect to pay above average for it. Or consider a drink at Starbucks next door, or even the water fountain near the rest rooms.
