I don’t like writing a string of negative reviews but this place merits another one. If you decide to spend the night in Hannibal, MO make sure for God’s sake that you get there before 7:00 so you can eat dinner before closing time at 8:00. If you don’t make that deadline, find a fast food restaurant or beef jerky at a bar to avoid eating here. Worst steak of my life in a dismal joint.

We recently spent a night in Hannibal so we could visit the Mark Twain sights the next day. We arrived around 7:30, checked in, drove around a bit looking for a place for dinner. By 8:15 we selected one and discovered it was closed as was our back up plan. We fled back to the hotel only to discover that everything in Hannibal closed by 8:00 except for The Steak House out by the Kroger. We zoomed over there and yes indeed, it was open. This was its sole redeeming quality; it was open past 8:00. However, so were a few fast food drive throughs and if you find yourself in Hannibal past 8:00 pm, just go for the drive through burger. We had a shrimp appetizer that was slippery and nasty on some kind of oddly spiced rice. My husband had Prime Rib which looked and tasted like plastic play food. I had the grilled Tilapia which was dried out which a slimy sauce. We declined dessert. They did not have Coke products nor brewed iced tea so I opted for lemonade which was cold and refreshing. If you read Mark Twain’s books and decide it would be fun to visit his birthplace, just swing over for a couple of hours midday. An over night stay, not necessary nor appetizing. I had not heard great things about Hannibal and had romanticized ideas which this restaurant quickly dissipated. I guess I will have to quote Mark Twain for why I came: Supposing is good, but finding out is better.
