I love coming here because it has so many options and the portions are just right. Most of the vegetables are local and organic, which makes their salads taste great! I always share with my friends so we can get a taste of everything and it’s definitely worth it that way. The dessert here is also very good, but the choices vary. I love coming here for brunch, the eggs Benedict is one of my favorites!

Food was good but the service was so unbelievably bad that they get two stars. Not that I’m some sort of service expert, but I picked up the finer points from a few years of off-and-on restaurant work and they seemed to disregard everything. My girlfriend and I walk in during brunch rush and they have no hostess. Fine, not every restaurant has a hostess, but instead of keeping a centralized list, some servers write your name down and others just ask you to sit and wait. Which we did, despite the four open tables near us for parties of four or more. If you have that many tables open, you never leave people sitting there. Then, two more parties of two walk in and are sat immediately at the same open tables while we sit and wait for 20 minutes. TL: DR: You would think servers who go to Dartmouth wouldn’t have their heads up their asses, but they do. Management clearly damaging restaurant by not hiring a hostess

It only has 3 stars, but I definitely had a 4 star experience. I like the rustic and casual setting this place offers. It’s spacious, non-pretentious, and not too crowded… at least when I went on a Sunday for brunch. The space is actually divided into two areas, one with larger areas for seating, and one seemingly dedicated to the baked goods side. Everything looked great. 1. Coffee: well brewed and bottomless. 2. Sandwich special: turkey with romain sprouts, bacon, and tomato batard. It was very very good. It was clear that the ingredients were fresh and organic, although the portions could be a bit larger. Overall the prices were very reasonable though. 3. Avocado wrap: I love avocado, and this really hit the spot. I grabbed a bite from my friend, and it was worth it! Only regret is not getting the pulled pork with coleslaw on a brioche bun. Oh well!

Breakfast here reasonably good, but fashionably parsimonious: scrambled eggs a little on the runny side for my liking but tasted delicious; very nice sausage(half) and two small, tad over-cooked bacon rashers. Greens were OK. Service was bright and cheery. Looking around the place: plenty of large tables unused. Couples and small parties pushed to the sides of the seating area. All very close-to. The wait staff suggested that it was to promote curiosity between diners when perusing others’ dishes. Not a bad idea, but the proximity was a little close. A dead fly on the uncovered beam directly above me hung, Sword of Damocles like, above my food. The place had the appearance of not having a good cleaning staff about — the floor had not been diligently swept for a while, judging from the food remains under the table legs. Could do a lot better! With a bit of effort, there could be a line out the door like Lou’s, around the corner. And another thing: putting a «please knock» sign on the gents’ facilities door does not really obviate the need for a cubicle around the toilet, especially when there is a urinal present in the restroom that could be used simultaneously.

Came here on a Sunday at 12:30, which is a very busy time. They were not able to seat us, but said we could order from the bakery/counter and seat ourselves on that side of the restaurant. It took quite some time for our french toast to come. That’s fine… they were busy. What amazed me is that, after asking twice for both forks and syrup(somewhat necessary to eat French toast), the hostess finally showed up with two forks and said«it appears we’ve run out of syrup.» And that was it. No offer of «can I get you something else or can I refund your order?» Nothing. I don’t mind that during a busy time they run out of something. But to not offer a substitute or a refund is unconscionable. Absolutely terrible attitude.

I’m a pretty big Market Table fan. I’ve always been impressed by their food, which is presented beautifully and based around seasonal ingredients. Service is usually attentive(you’d be surprised by how rare this can be in some Hanover-area restaurants, where staff seem to take students being in their establishments for granted) and food usually comes out at a respectable pace. Desserts in particular are quite good, as are the seafood options. Portions are pretty small, which is a little annoying given the price, but it’s not unbearable, and would in fact be pretty standard in fine dining in a major city. As far as drinks are concerned, I recommend avoiding the mimosas for brunch — for some reason, they’ve decided to make them with pulpy orange juice, which is just an odd choice. I like pulpy orange juice on its own, but pulp and champagne do not play well. The mojitos, on the other hand, are great. I only wish Market Table would invest some effort into putting together a cocktail menu, rather than just relying on diners ordering their own… I’d like to see more cocktail options in the Hanover area.

Love this place! The food is phenomenal is the service is great. It is truly a farm to table experience as the menu changes based on the in season and available ingredients, the steak and the home made sorbets are phenomenal!!!

I’m updating my review because I’m baffled by the three star rating of this place. I’ve been here multiple times for dinner and brunch and the food is always awesome. Best in town, in my humble opinion. Give it a try! And try the pastries!

Greasy/overly oily on things that didn’t even need oil(like black beans), over-cooked, not even close to fresh, and bland!

With just 2 chefs and 2 servers, this is not a place for a quick meal. Even if it were the food is not that great and super expensive. This place really needs an operations revaluation

Had dinner at MT on Mother’s Day and I must say we were not overly impressed. I had been raving about the place to my family, since I’d had lunch there previously, but our dinner did not live up to expectations. Word to the wise — do not go hungry as the portions are SMALL. I am a vegetarian and have recently also gone grain-free, so menus are often difficult to navigate. I thought if any restaurant in the Upper Valley could fit the bill, it would be MT. I was disappointed by the choices, but not surprised to learn that I would have to order a salad. There were a couple yummy-sounding salads on the menu, so I wasn’t too disappointed. That was until the food arrived. While my salad was really delicious, it was so small that I could have eaten three of them! My daughter, also a vegetarian(though she eats grains) ate french fries for dinner. My husband and second daughter enjoyed their bangers and burgers, though the portion was not enough for my husband either. I didn’t find the service as offensive as other reviewers, though I will say we were there very early, it was not at all busy and the service was incredibly SLOW. We didn’t mind too much, since it was Mother’s Day and we were enjoying our time together, however, if we had wanted to catch a show at the HOP or a movie at The Nugget, we would have had problems. Will I go back for dinner again? Probably not. Would I try them for lunch again? Maybe.

Overpriced food, spotty service(when I asked for cream for coffee for my dining companion the waiter gave a look of disdain and then never came back – so I had to get it myself) and overall not a place I think is remotely worth it when a few dollars more gets me class and good food at Pine. Two stars b/c takeout dessert treats are good.

Market Table is alright. It’s one of the more popular, nicer dining options in Hanover. I usually come here for breakfast and have liked it enough. The French toast is pretty good, service is attentive, and the food is well done. I recently came for dinner which was also a decent experience but nothing exceptional to rave about. They have a lot of great locally sourced ingredients and innovative dish ideas which I think is great. I probably just went with the wrong dish, so will update my review if I go back and walk away with a new mindblowing feeling of how much I love this place. I ordered the noodle bowl which was one of their dinner specials about a week ago. It was a soba noodle soup with mackerel. Which was fine, but the ginger was way too overdone in the soup, and the mackerel had a ton of bone. Which is okay if you’re serving it as a dry dish, but ends up being a very challenging and difficult dish to finish when it’s in soup form. All in all, it was a pretty well intentioned but poorly executed attempt at asian fusion. My friends raved about the Baked Alaska as a dessert and the bangers and other fish dishes, so I’m pretty sure I just chose wrong. tldr; have had pretty good brunch experiences here though their dinner menu actually has a lot of interesting stuff on it

I have previously enjoyed Market Table. But my last dining experience there was so dissatisfying that I will not be returning, and I felt compelled to sign up for Unilocal to leave this review. The food is fresh and has been tasty on previous visits. But my dinner there two weeks ago resulted in my significant other and I going directly from Market Table(after a $ 50+ tab) to Base Camp across the street for more food. Many of the menu items seem to have been revamped, and this revamping includes downsizing portion sizes by a third. The $ 22 salmon entrée I had was good but was simply a portion salmon on a purée(smaller than the old salmon entrée), with absolutely no starch or vegetables other than some greens and a few onions or something thrown on top. Clearly a $ 7 – 8 dollar piece of salmon; really shouldn’t have cost more than $ 18 even priced up. When I asked my server prior to ordering whether the dish included a starch(I was contemplating ordering a side of polenta or something if it did not), I was told rather rudely that«dish was perfect as it was» and wasn’t missing anything. Not my question. But at least mine was actually kind of entrée-sized ish. My 6’3″ boyfriend ordered the crab cakes. Which means he paid ~$ 18 for two(TWO) crab cakes that were the size of about 1.5 golfballs each. …really? They were nothing special, and he was starving. The server never asked whether we had ordered the half or full portion so we were hoping against hope that the bill would reveal this was actually the half, but it wasn’t. Ridiculously overpriced. While the food was not bad, it also wasn’t spectacular, the portions were small, and(worst of all) the service was defensive and rude. I’m sad to leave this review, since I previous loved some of their dishes, but this was ridiculous. You shouldn’t have to go to dinner after dinner.

I don’t normally(ever) write reviews, but I’m so baffled by the average rating of 3 stars for Market Table that I just have to chime in. I live in Boston but come up to Hanover often, and this is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. The food is always fresh, high quality and locally-sourced. Breakfast, lunch and dinner options are all delicious. My personal favorites are the grilled hanger steak w/spinach, the honey crisp apple salad, and the market table burger. My teenage son literally daydreams in school about the roasted turkey sandwich on the lunch menu. Solid wine selection at dinner. The cheese course is excellent, and there are always daily specials worth trying. If I could change one thing about MT, I’d put felt on the bottom of the chair legs so they don’t squeak when you move them. Everything else I’d leave just as it is. If you haven’t tried Market Table, you should — you won’t be disappointed.

Came over on a beautiful late Fall day with my awesome Black Lab and met another couple for a late brunch. First of all, it’s pet friendly on the friendly, outside heated patio which makes it a repeated will-come-back destination. With the Lab curled at our feet, we ordered some of their fresh selections from area farms. A salad which tasted like it was just picked from a garden, sprinkled with dried cherries, a wonderful Manchego cheese and topped with a tasty balsamic vinaigrette. Then there was the lick-your-fingers Portobello Mushroom sandwich exquisitely marinated, with Vermont goat cheese and a mayo that had the distinct infusion of basil. Another one of our guests had a kick-butt crab cake. Food was delish, period. We went inside just to look and it was a welcoming, modern décor. Service was excellent, by the way. On a nice cool sunny day with leaves falling around us, it was a wonderful New England experience.

The service was very good. The server was friendly and engaged me in conversation when he saw that I was alone. He also was kind enough to offer me a smaller portion size when he thought that maybe I was ordering too much. I appreciate recommendations like this from servers. The food was fresh and tasty. The crab cake was delicious! The menu was very good and it is not overly priced for this quality of food. You definitely get what you pay for. It is much cheaper than this type of market to table restaurant in California. I didn’t take guests here over the weekend because of the bad Unilocal reviews, and I am really disappointed about that. Last night after dinner at mollies(meh), I ran into a friend who has similar tastes as i do. She told me that she tried lots of restaurants in town and that Market Table with the best by far. I’m really glad that I decided to go here tonight. I plan on joining my daughter there for breakfast tomorrow.

Went here for brunch and it was about what I expected. Not terribly overpriced but portions were small and nothing particularly special. Coffee was meh. Service was great! I wouldn’t bother.

As far as sheer quality of the food goes, this is the best restaurant in Hanover, period. It’s also probably one of the most expensive… but you definitely get what you pay for. The ingredients are fresh, locally sourced, and prepared perfectly every time. I have never had an overdone or underdone steak, a wilted salad, or a soggy french fry from this place. The staff are friendly and professional, and it’s always nice to step out of the weather – be it waist-deep snow and icy wind or suffocating humidity and heat – and into this restaurant with its warm lighting, delicious smells, and smiling faces. Everyone should try this place at least once or twice, and it’s a great place to take visiting parents for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is quietly classy, but it can get pretty crowded on date night and during Dartmouth events. I highly suggest making reservations if you go on a weekend.

In Hanover, like every college town, you’ll find a bunch of restaurants that serve OK food in fairly large portions and pair it with wines that are lightweight in price but big, jammy, fruit bombs. Their prices are often reasonable, the food passable, the scene pleasant. There’s not much distinctive about any of them — they could easily be transplanted in Ithaca or elsewhere and do just fine. They serve a niche and serve it well. If that’s what you’re looking for, Market Table is not for you. When you walk into this bustling, cheery space, be prepared for well-thought-out dishes, based on local produce, meats, cheeses, and other products(a whole blackboard lists the restaurant’s suppliers. The wine list offers some really interesting choices from different regions of the world. It’s not enormous, but reasonably priced, often includes grapes that will please the aficionado and a good selection of wines by the glass. The menu isn’t large, but well-curated – there’s pretty much something for everyone, including vegans. My wife is a huge fan of the salmon, which always comes to the table medium-rare the way she likes it. And that’s typical of the care the Market Table chefs take with the food: I order eggs very soft scrambled everywhere I go and this is one of the few places that consistently delivers them that way. Ditto with the rare hamburger. There are a few(usually outstanding) specials every day. One evening in May featured a frisee salad with slow-cooked duck, a duck egg, homemade croutons, and bacon lardons; local asparagus with hollandaise; and seared scallops paired with parsnips, arugula, and candied bacon. One of the benefits of the smaller portions here is that you’ll be glad to have room for dessert or(fresh, local, delicious) cheese offerings. Desserts and breads are homemade and often standouts: the foccacia is delicious and the(tasty!) brioche rolls for the burgers are house-made. If you’re in a hurry, pick up something from the pastry case: the chocolate brownie cookies are the best chocolate cookies made or sold in the Upper Valley. Others on Unilocal commented on the noise level: it’s energetic, so be prepared. And Market Table does get busy, so service is sometimes less attentive than one might like. But for the quality, I’ll accept those occasional challenges. And the fact that it has no TV: awesome!
