Any place that has the word Deli in its name should be judged by its Reuben. Morty’s Reuben is pretty much nothing more than lunchmeat that is found in any grocery store, stacked upon old bread. The Deli has a nice feel, throwback to delis of NY, but it becomes artificial when they serve the food and it seems like the Disney Deli.

On my last night in the area I decided to make the trek out to the Arundel Mills Mall for dinner. My hotel was about a ten minute walk from the mall. Word to the wise, the mall closes at 7pm on Sundays I did not know this and it made for an even further walk back. I was hungry and knew from experience that the best place to get food would be the casino. After spending 3 years working in the casino industry I find it fun to explore any one I come across and knew this would be the place to find some good eats! Maryland Live has your usual spread of restaurants one would find in any casino in the country. I settled upon Morty’s for a few reason. First being the speed of it all. It was later in the evening and I was getting tired, and had to pack for the morning. Second the style of food in general. I’m from New Jersey a place where deli’s are everywhere, and I was craving a taste of home. I knew going in that since it was casino it would not be exact in any means, but at least it would be a close to the taste as I could get. My last reason for Morty’s was the price. I know casino food is overpriced out the gate. Its right up there with your sport venues and theme park food as far as price goes. So I wanted the most bang for my buck. When you first walk in the ordering is a bit of a confusing process. They have a long counter stretching all the way back to the far wall, with signage about displaying the menu, which really doesn’t tell you much on the prices of the items. You order all the way at the end of the counter, where they also have menus with the pricing on them for you. After you place your order they give you a number and you find a seat. The register would make so much more sense on the front end of the counter, and put the prices on the menu board. The core sandwiches range from $ 11 for your basic salad sandwich and $ 12 for any kind of meat sandwich, cheese cost extra. I did find something on the specialty side that was mildly priced and fit my craving that night, The Big Paul, which cost $ 7. «The Big Paul» consisted of an all beef hot dog wrapped in salami and covered in sauerkraut and mustard. It was packed full of flavor, but could have had more to it. It was a big dog which I was thankful for, since it came with nothing but the dog. Even with the size I wasn’t quite filled, but I did happen upon a closing cookie stand in the mall who gave a lot of discounted cookies to fill the void. One of the big reasons I came here was the speed that I expected from a deli. Sadly what I got was quite the opposite. My lonely Big Paul took 25 minutes to produce in a pretty much slow restaurant with a bunch of people standing around behind the counter. In an ideal casino restaurant you don’t want people sitting there waiting on food. But Morty’s is a quick service, and this now wait defeated the whole purpose. Plus I cooked hot dogs before this should not have been more than a 10 minute process. And to see staff just standing there talking to each other was the most annoying thing. Over all Morty’s was a disappointing experience. Even with the good tasting food the wait time and the prices don’t really justify a trip back when I’m in the area. The only reason it will get the Fat kid approval is the food quality is good. Stay Peckish my friends.

Super expensive $ 15 for a sandwich. It’s good though but not that damn good. Nice deli style sitting area. I won’t be back I really can’t see myself entertaining an exorbitantly priced sandwich again.

Worst service, 4 orders all wrong. Then the asst manager had the nerve to tell us she’s short staffed. Not our problem. This place was our last resort seeing everywhere else had a wait. That should’ve been our clue… Incredibly expensive. Pass

Tuna, shrimp salad & Crab soup was very good! The prices are little extreme for instance $ 15 for a tuna sandwich! I was comped so can’t really complain! I heard the other choices are delicious but can’t confirm.

Not bad. We just wanted something quick and cheaper than the other food in the casino, and although we thought this was still overpriced — it was the cheapest. And okay. We had a shrimp salad sandwich — which was actually pretty good. Huge chunks of shrimp and a generous portion. We also ordered steak fries and a crab soup. Soup was good, pretty standard. And the fries were decent. I don’t think we’d come back for the food. But it worked for that specific evening. The service is good. Prices are a little high.

I find it unusual that this is the only place in the casino complex that does not offer a military discount but if you speak to the right person they will give you a senior discount. Thank you for your help and to keep this person from getting into trouble I will not mention their name but I do thank them. I went with the Reuben and fries to keep it simple. The Reuben was good and fries hot as all food is cooked once you order it so no worries of getting some wrapped up sandwich under a warmer. For the price I paid it was a good size sandwich and a good Reuben. Not the best but it is one of the better Reubens I have had in this area. The bread was toasted nicely and not overcooked as some places tend to do. Overall if you are in the casino and yes I said in the casino as that is the only entrance to this establishment it is a good place to grab a bite. I would not go out of my way to eat there but if you do you will hopefully not be disappointed.

The Reuben is to die for. It’s delicious and one of the best I’ve ever had. I highly suggest this place for any time of day. The best part is… It’s open 24⁄7 for players and all. But you do have to be 21 to enter the casino to try this place.

No Just NO The worst part of maryland live is their crappy food. We were really hoping that this deli would hold up to the hype and have some good deli food. Wrong. Food was horrible, service was worse. I couldn’t finish mine it tasted so bad. The worst part was the oblivious management. After we paid, my husband went and sat down and I went to make our drinks. Management was having discussion with an employee RIGHT in front of the drink area, and would not move out of the way. They were not even discussing the drinks, but signage. I kept saying excuse me and it was obvious I was trying to work around them, but they just kept on in their conversation about the signs. I will never go back

Upon entering it was unclear where to place your order, the menus are way above your head so when I went to the cashier I requested a paper menu. The sandwich preparation area could have used a wipe down and there was a cup of trash sitting in front of the cashier which they continued to overlook until I requested that they put it in the trash. I placed my order with who I found out later was the Assistant Manager, I ordered grilled turkey pastrami on grilled rye bread with pepper jack cheese and a side order of macaroni salad. They gave me a grilled turkey pastrami on rye(no cheese) and a MACARONISALADSANDWICH w/PEPPER JACK on bread. They corrected the problem, that was extremely interesting.

Edible, clean and not terribly crowded, which should have been our first clue. The very basis of a good sandwhich is great bread. The«Jewish Rye» was akin to Wonderbread. No substance whatsoever. A good deli rocks the pastrami. Morty’s failed this test, serving up bland, greasy mystery meat. The«Russian dressing» tasted like a sweetened ketchup with mayo mixture when, combined with the very sour and little other flavor kraut, completely overpowered any chance of enjoying the supposed«authentic» deli sandwhich. And there was something that resembled cheese but I could not taste it, either. I did not hold much in the way of high hopes for a casino in Hanover, Maryland being able to come close to authentic New York-style deli food and was still disappointed with my low expectations. Even the pickles were boring. Morty’s food seems to be sourced entirely from Sysco(U.S. Foods?) and depends on the dampened(liquored-up) palets of those who, sadly, have not tasted better. I must say, however, contrary to others posting poor reviews of the service, we were treated very well. The ordering process was not confusing at all. The deli is set up traditionally with the board of fare displayed upon entering and the ordering/cashier station at the opposite end of the store. The cashier was helpful and patient with us as we navigated the offerings(limited as they are). We were greeted with smiles and our server was cheerful and polite. For anyone who has ever been to Vegas or any other serious casino eatery, assuming that restaurants at these one-off neighborhood casinos would be anything other than a place to fill the hole, would be a mistake. Morty’s was friendly, and clean. It was also a poor value. I would have rather left the casino, braved the below-zero temperatures and walked to Costco and had a hot dog combo. I would have been equally satisfied at a fraction of the cost and had more money to lose at the casino thus ensuring my participation in the«tax on the statistically challenged» venue that is Maryland Live!

Super Bowl 2015, I was at the Maryland Live Casino in Hanover, Maryland. I noticed a new restaurant called Morty’s Delicatessen. I ordered a heated lean corned beef sandwich with melted provolone cheese on Jewish rye with mustard. Simple right? Wrong! I got the sandwich home and the bread was so stale. I mean fall apart with hard crunchy edges. OMG! I thought the corned beef looked decent but it started falling apart into little tiny pieces when I tried to pick it up. It was extremely dry and had no taste! I love corned beef, normally if it’s not Attmans in Baltimore, I don’t eat it. I gave Morty’s a try and for that $ 13. 00 I believe that Morty’s should go back to where ever they came from. They don’t belong here in Maryland. I called to speak with a Manager. I was told there was no manager and they ended up hanging up on me. They must don’t know that you can’t fool us here in Maryland when it comes to corned beef and crab cakes. I give them a big fat F! There are too many other places to eat around the casino and mall to pay a lot of money to eat crap!

I enjoyed my visit to Morty’s deli. The ambiance was great. The customer service was very good. I ordered the Reuben, western fries and an old fashioned root beer. It was delicious. I heard a few walk in customers complaining about the price for a sandwich but here you certainly get what you pay for. I will certainly return in the near future. It’s nice to know I don’t have to travel to NYC to juniors to get a good Reuben.

Morty’s is clean, slightly confusing, but delicious. First, off at Morty’s there is no clear stop where you are to place your order — when we arrived there were several people scattered throughout the line, making it difficult to tell if you order at the front of the restaurant or wait until you are at a register — a simple sign would help! And, after ordering, you are left to guess why there are number’s being yelled out loud and if they are directed to a food runner — who I saw run to multiple tables — or if you are to pick up your food from the line. Since I noticed the runner and was given a steal number I waited and waited and the food never came. I tried asking why everyone else had their food brought to them and our sat — commentless. There are zero costs on their large, easily readable boards, making them useless and the large stack of paper menu’s were hidden near the cashiers — making things more confusing. As for the food I tried the classic reuben — overall decent, though overpriced for just a regular sized sandwich and plain dill pickle. The russian dressing was very flavourful and the quality of the corned beef was above-average. The sauerkraut was slightly disappointing though and had little to no flavour and helped to add even more grease to my hands from the toasted oil covered rye bread. Chips at $ 3.5 per bag is slightly unreasonably anywhere else other than a casino, but it was the absence of a combo — drink, chips, sandwich — that made me feel less desirable about visiting again. Beer selection is similar to the bar — pricing and selection — however, is only offered in bottles. On a plus side Dr. Brown’s can’s and other classic soda’s are offered and a fountain too. Other notables — breakfast is offered at this location, there are large tables for groups, everything is freshly sliced and cured on location. 3 stars.

Morty’s is horrible at Maryland Live. There is no organization in the restaurant. There was one cashier that kept yawning at the register. The other cashier kept saying order up! Customers in the line didn’t know where to pick up order or to place an order. I spoke with the manager and the only thing he could say is we are aware of the disorder and we have been open for three weeks. What a mess? In addition to the poor customer service, the food was terrible. I ordered a Turkey(at the club) sandwich, the bacon was extremely greasy and burned. I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy.

Reviewing for breakfast only: great greasy breakfast sandwiches. Egg and cheese on your choice of bread(bagels included!) Service was quick although I can see how it might be slow if there was a crowd. They’ve only been open a few weeks so they’re still working out the kinks. Since it was my first time, I also grabbed a piece of red velvet cake. It was enough to share and was fresh and moist. Will be getting that again. Note about prices: This place is inside a casino and accepts comps. I wouldn’t walk in here from the mall and pay cash but it’s light years ahead of the Phillips next door in terms of breakfast quality. The Phillips rise’n shine was my old default. For almost the same price($ 7 for egg and cheese, add $ 2 for bacon) you can have a hot sandwich made fresh. Red velvet was $ 4.50 a slice and worth it. They also have a great deli selection of bottled soda(Stewart’s and Dr. Browns!) but sadly those must be consumed inside the casino and can’t be hoarded like bottled drinks from the gift shop.

Being Jewish from Brooklyn, I had high expectations for this place. I was sadly disappointed. The quality of the food is not worth the high prices. The matzoh ball soup was $ 7.50 for one matzoh ball and a few noodles and a few pieces of chicken. It was pretty much a cup size. It was also very salty. The corned beef rueben was a nice size sandwich, but the corned beef was just ok. Pretty much like lunch meat. Price was $ 14. The fries were only $ 4 for a huge portion and can be shared. Unfortunately, they were seasoned fries. A real deli would sever nice steak fries unseasoned. So $ 25.50 plus a drink. You could split the sandwich and fries and walk away satisfied. High prices were expected because it is inside the casino. I was really hoping to feel like I was in a real deli and not just another sandwich shop.
