Honestly, I’m not much for stationary and such. Handwritten letters and cards are a nice sentiment, but they’re not really sustainable, and I just end up forgetting to use them so they’re wasted on me anyway. That probably makes me a cold and heartless drone of the information age, but whatever. Still, this is a cute shop. And more than once I’ve found neat little things in here for gifts or DIY projects. Whenever I needed something in the paper-ribbon-writing utensils department, I would always go here first. The owner is super friendly and always ended up getting into a conversation with myself and my roommate. It got to the point that we would just come by to visit her and say hello, even if we had nothing we needed to buy. And in my case, I’d usually end up buying something. Clever woman.

Does not keep normal business hours, and does not post hours on the door of the shop. Consequently, I’ve stopped by a couple times in the morning only to find they were closed, and didn’t know whether waiting would get me anywhere. Eventually, I made it inside, and after purchasing some cards, I suggested to the proprietor that posted hours would be welcomed, and she responded rudely. Bottom line: There’s nothing in this store I can’t get as inexpensively, and with less attitude, from Amazon or Etsy. I won’t shop here again.

A hidden treasure in downtown Hanover. In our electronic age of sending birthday wishes and expressions of sympathy via Facebook, Twitter or the social networking app du jour, we are depriving our friends and loved ones of that warm feeling you get when you go to the mailbox and find a card or special note. A visit to That Little Spot of Red will make you want to send notes and cards the old fashion way, by engaging in the art of writing — actually putting pen to paper. They have a wonderful selection of pens, greeting cards, note cards, stationary and unique gifts. Stop in and look around, pick up some cards or paper. Your friends will be glad you did because you’ll want to send them a note… using your new paper… Don’t worry about stamps, the post office is just across the street.

There is not many stationery stores anywhere at Hanover. I found out about this store through the Moleskine USA online store locator. I was looking for some limited edition Moleskine notebooks that this store did not carry. In fact this store carried a very limited selection of Moleskine stationery even though they are listed as selling Moleskine products from the official Moleskine online store. I tried to venture out and see what else they sell, and it felt like they just sell your typical stationery you can find anywhere. I was expecting a unique experience of finding hard to find stationery items to give me that classy«boutique» experience. I just wish they carried items that would be considered«hard to get» like limited edition Moleskine line(Star Wars, Le Petite Prince, Peanuts, etc…), or even«Loungefly» accessories of exclusive tote bags that have become collectible. For my experience, I’d have to say it’s an OK shop that is somewhat hidden and hard to find. You’d feel like since this store is kind of hidden, you should walk out feeling like you found at least one or more unique hard to find items or treasures from a hidden special place.
