Dr. Petfixer

Really great place. They helped my cat when she had an ear infection and very good at giving advice that will help your pet. I plan on making this my main vet for my cat

We recently had our dog spade there. Sloppy work lady. I could do better stitches than that. Was the phone ringing while you closed up my dog. WTF? This Vet wanted to add on all kinds of charges that weren’t at all necessary now we are not even going back for a follow up. Thank God our baby girl is fine. I don’t believe this woman likes her job much, Shes pushy and the office is a mess. Of coarse we were trying to save a few bucks but we will not be bringing our animals back to her again. Our dogs are family and we want them to see a vet who loves his/​her job and will give them the best care possible.

General and Preventative Care: My dog has been coming here since he was a puppy. The vet was recommended by the ASPCA website. Our dog doesn’t like to be poked and prodded, but the vet and her techs are always very careful with him and always get the job done without complaining about how difficult he is (unlike some groomers we’ve been to!). His neutering was done without any hiccups and he didn’t even have a scar. Even though my dog mostly goes to the vet when he’s sick or when he needs his vaccines, he still likes to go in and responds well to Dr. Monteiro.
Emergency Care: The emergency care provided by Dr. PetFixer is why we’re lifelong customers! My dog was throwing up after hours. I emailed Dr. Monteiro through the PetFixer website and received a response less than 15 minutes later. While it ended up not being a serious issue, I was so relieved to have a vet that I could count on. Another time our dog had an emergency that fell on a Sunday (when they’re closed) — Dr. Monteiro opened up the office to see him and make sure he was ok.
Grooming: Our dog hates getting his nails cut. We have exhausted all of the groomers in the area (he won’t go near them, and frankly we weren’t fond of many of them either). The vet and her tech were able to cut all of our dogs nails and they did it with a smile.
Overall: I am really pleased with Dr. PetFixer and the staff. Our boy likes them and they always treat him well. He is a very large black lab and some places aren’t very good with handling bigger dogs — but we have never had a problem with the staff here.
Price: The services are comparable in price (if not cheaper) to other vets in the area– we called when we first got our dog and priced every local veterinary. The meds can sometimes be expensive, but other times they’re spot on with what you find on the internet.
Exotic Pets: Dr. Monteiro and staff also dealt with our pet bunny for us. When our bunny passed, they sent us a condolence card– superb customer service. They made a difficult time a little bit easier to deal with.

Nix the groomer there also. I wanted the hair trimmed in my dogs ears and she pulled the hair out. Said the dog got nippy. If you pulled my hair out I bite you
too. Cut was very choppy.

I brought my dog who was having seizures here. I was scared for him and panicked. when I got in to see the vet I told her what had been happening. She listened and didn’t ask many questions. She informed me that, «sometimes dogs have seizures» and promptly started him on prescriptions. She then tried to talk me into several other expensive services. I explained that I was focused on the seizures, and unless he was due for shots or anything else, I wasn’t interested at this point. She told me I needed to bring my dog in every 2 weeks to do blood work to check the levels of the prescription. The prescription right away had several awful side effects. (I found out via internet– not the vet– that it was normal). All the while he was having seizures still and I’m spending hundreds on the frequent blood work and prescriptions. Once during the blood work they made him bleed for about a hour due to their sloppy work. Finally, exasperated after months of this, I called the vet and told her the medicine had negative side effects and he was still seizing, she said «yeah it’s not working let’s just stop treatment.’ And that was that. Time and money wasted. My dog was worse then when I brought him in. (I found out online the type of medicine he was on, HAD to be weened off or it could be very hazardous) So thank you google for saving my dog. I found another vet quickly who assessed my dog asked questions and finally recommended that I try switching his food first. Needless to say my pup has been seizure free for a year and half. And it cost me just the price of a physical exam. No blood work, no prescriptions. I’m not sure if petfixer just wants you to be a cash cow in expensive services or just didn’t know what to do with his condition. They took my sick dog and made him worse, even kept me dangerously ill informed about his prescriptions.

My OPINION of this place is:
I NEVER want to step foot in the place again and they are EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE!!! Within a period of (I think) less than 90 days, I spent over $ 1000.00.They also tried to sell me a NON-​PRESCRIPTION supplement for $ 95.00! I found it online for less than half that price!(I think the online price was around $ 30.00.) When I told them about that they said they had no idea that you could purchase it for that price. That their supplier wasn’t giving them the right price, blah, blah, blah.
And If I read the info on their website correctly, it seems as if one, if not both vets have done animal testing in the past. The kind of testing, again this is just my opinion, that is basically torture for the animals. I don’t know about you, but I certainly wouldn’t want my pets in the hands of someone who has ever hurt an animal. In the name of science or otherwise.
The only positive thing I could say about them is that they did give me a partial refund (less than $ 200.00)of a health plan I paid for. It was supposed to cover all these different services like bloodwork, x-​rays, etc-​plus no office visit fees-​for a year. Funny thing was I NEVER got out of there without having to pay them for something.
