New China

We were In Harleyville to visit Beidler Forest and needed to eat lunch. We were hoping to eat at a café next door to New China. Alas, they were closed on Sundays. Harleyville is a small town with a total area of 1 square mile. How intriguing to find a Chinese restaurant open in what felt like the middle of nowhere! Then again, I did find a Chinese restaurant next to an active volcano in Costa Rica about 12 years ago. I digress. Inside there were was a table of local firemen having lunch. That felt like a good sign. We ordered beef with garlic sauce, roast pork lo mein, and fried dumplings. The beef with garlic sauce was the best of the 3. It was exactly what you expect from a decent Chinese take-​out restaurant and satisfied our lunch needs. If it were located in New York City, I’d probably rate it 3 stars. I’m happy to give 4 stars for providing variety in a small town.

Harleyville SC pop about 400 and the Chinese place is awesome! Go figure.
