All in 1 Handyman

We signed a contract with Alan to have our already started basement finished. He stated 2 to 3 weeks time for completion, with finish by date 10÷31÷12. ¹⁰⁄₃₁ came and went, we were then promised it would be finished by Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving has also now come and gone. We payed ²⁄₃ of the agreed upon price, we even payed out of pocket for upgrades we wanted in addition. Alan and his partner/​co-​worker never showed up before 10: AM on any given day, took many breaks, worked between 3 – 5 hour a day at most. They would go eat lunch and state they would be back and ask how late they could work that night, and would never return from lunch. They «borrowed» some of our tools for other jobs, without asking, and acted as if that was normal.
Alan and his workers are sub par at best in the handy man business. They are slow, messy and do not finish what was agreed upon. Do not waste your time or money with him. He does a lot of talking and almost no work.
I do believe in the benefit of the doubt, but I hope my story helps you make a more informed decision before choosing Alan (All in 1 handyman) as a contractor.
