I give them 5 stars cause the waitress was a sweet heart. off bat she said her name was Jen and welcomed us made us feel right at home. I had the southwest chicken(witch she recommended) it was wonderful. My wife had the chicken salad and it was delicious. I would like one with no cranberry though. My over all experience was excellent!!! would I come back yes I would.

Definitely a tourist trap serving up the same items that everyone else in the low town is. That said the service is decent and despite the fact that they only do their burgers«well done» they have good food. The main selling point for this place for me is the courtyard, a peaceful and pleasant place to eat and hang out.

Service was good considering how busy they were, but the food wasn’t great. If you want a quick snack or a drink it’d be good. My husband and I each ordered a basic cheeseburger and it was ok. The bun was really good but the burger patty itself just seemed like it came out of the freezer section at the grocery store. Overall, I’d go back for snacks or icecream, but probably not as a main meal.

Worst cup of coffee I had ever had. Why even put coffee in your name? Why not ice cream shack or something more honest? I asked what type of coffee they use, and got no response. My hot coffee tasted like nutty water, and my girlfriends ice coffee tasted like yesterday’s coffee was just saved in the fridge and served today. Gross, inside was gross as well. oh yeah I also asked for a cup of water with my coffee(for my pet) and they tried to sell me a bottle of water? If i was going to pay for water at a restaurant(that i was already giving business to), it better be in imported or in a clean glass, with perhaps a lemon. So yeah water is too expensive to give away in a cup for a pet, how much does it cost to use the restroom? Was there even a restroom? i don’t know, i’m not cheap, but i was defiantly offended. Avoid at all cost. Back to the point, I just wanted a simple cup of black coffee, and this place could handle that.

Two stars because the waitress was so wonderful on a hot Memorial Day weekend. The outside seating was nice. The fish and chips looked and tasted like a frozen slab of fish. No redeeming qualities.

Don’t go here for coffee. We thought with the name we could get a decent latte or cappuccino. We were wrong. They have the machinery but tasted like half boiling water, which made the latte way hotter than normally steamed milk, and then milk with a little bit of coffee flavor. All 3 of us didn’t finish the drinks and threw them out. Oh, the worst part? They were $ 4.50 each!

I had a small cup of black coffee and my wife had the pumpkin spice latte. The coffee tasted like it was brewed with yesterday’s grind and the latter tasted like they just put the garbage coffee in a cup with some pumpkin spice coffee creamer. The latte was $ 4.11 and the black coffee was $ 1.69. Total tourist trap! Don’t waste your money.

I have honestly never had worse customer service or a worse cup of «coffee». The girl working the till outside was the most unhappy, grouchy, and rude human I have ever encountered. She shorted the lady in front of us change, and when the lady explained, she blankly stared at her, did not even say sorry. I ordered a hazelnut latte and a mocha– $ 5 each. My latte taste like watered down milk. It had coffee grounds floating on the top. It tasted like a shot of coffee with milk. Mocha was like watered down hot chocolate. Both terrible, and both went in the garbage. Don’t waste your time or money.

Filthy. Tourist trap, nothing more. I used the restroom out of desperation and there was an internal debate around whether not washing my hands(not touching the sink) was more hygienic. I ended up washing the sink handles, then washing my hands, then using a paper towel to open the door. I still felt contaminated. The coffee was watery. The food(which we did not eat) was expensive. The tables and all other visible surfaces were dirty. I’m surprised that such a business is allowed to operate within a national park. It’s shameful.

Just tubed down the river and stopped in Harper’s Ferry for a quick meal. We stopped at The Coffee Mill and all enjoyed our meals. Granted we were starving from our ferry ride but everything hit the spot. I got the turkey club, my boyfriend got the crab cake sandwich, my sister got a burger. We all we very satisfied and the bacon was delicious! Also they had a delicious maple Apple pie offering that was soooo good!!!(Oh yeah and lots of people were eating their ice cream and loving it — including my sister!)

We went here twice during our day trip to Harper’s Ferry — once after a few hours of tubing down the river and once again after we went on the hike on the Maryland Heights Trail, and to be honest, both experiences were disappointing. After our tubing trip, it was the middle of an 80 degree day, so we were looking for some cold ice cream to to cool ourselves down. I got some peach ice cream, and the whole thing was pretty underwhelming. First of all, the initial reaction was that it looked like there was a lot of artificial coloring being used — the ice cream was way more«peachy» than it should’ve been, and it was immediately pretty off putting. When I had the ice cream itself, it was super melty, and the ice cream definitely didn’t look peachy enough — it didn’t feel as cool and refreshing as it should’ve been coming in from a hot day. The one redeeming factor, however, were the little peach bits in the middle of the ice cream. Although they were pretty sparse in the ice cream itself, it was like finding little pieces of treasure on a deserted beach of mediocrity. After the 6 mile hike up and down the Maryland Heights trail, I was looking for a big, filling meal. Partly because I was wanting to give this place a second trail, and mostly because I needed somewhere quick as the last shuttle was leaving at 6:45, I came in and got a cheeseburger with fries to go. The fries just tasted very gross — they looked like they came frozen and we’re just heated up, and were very bland and almost hard to eat. The burger was just… meh. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t good either. It was just… OK. Overall, pretty disappointing experience. 2 stars mainly because the service was actually pretty good and the people were friendly, but the food could really use work.

Disappointment. Signs reading«frozen custard» had me pass the real ice cream place to find out this place doesn’t have custard! I said there are big signs outside. Told it had been two years. The girl said they have soft serve next door thinking it was custard. Settled for an over priced root beer float($ 5.50!)

This place was so disappointing that I feel obliged to warn others! Sadly, Unilocal on your phone is unlikely to work in this isolated little town surrounded by mountains, so you probably won’t read this until it’s too late! Firstly, STOP! – contrary to the name, this is NOT a coffee shop. It’s a small restaurant, with a cute little outdoor area to eat. This review is not about the food, didn’t try it, it’s about the completely misleading name that draws in customers on the premise of fine coffee and then doesn’t deliver. I needed coffee. I was so happy when I saw the«Coffee Mill» sign. We went inside, expecting the sound of grinders and the smell of rich deep roasted coffee being turned into steamy deliciousness. Sadly, this is not what we found. Instead, it was just a little restaurant. I asked what kind of coffee they had today. The cashier looked perplexed by this strange and exotic question, and said she would have to ask. She did, and came back with the answer«Maxwell House». Seriously, I wouldn’t joke about this. I had noticed a few bags of somewhat tasty looking coffee on the counter, so I replied«then why are these bags here giving the false impression that you at least use high-end coffee?». She told me, «those are for the espresso drinks». Turns out they did have an espresso machine hidden back there somewhere. So, feeling taken, I sprung almost $ 5 for a latte when I just wanted a decent cup of coffee. To my horror, the girl who had just had to ask what kind of coffee they used was now working the espresso machine, I felt like ducking for cover… I was able to find cream and sugar, and a lid the likes of which even 7-eleven no longer gives you, impossible to use for drinking so I left with no lid at all. The latte tasted ok, but nothing to be particularly happy about. Be forewarned…

I waited 15 minutes for a server to come up to me. Once the server did come up to me, they were very nice and I enjoyed speaking to them. Their service flowed with the overall vibe the place — hospitable. Being that I did have to wait; I’ll have to knock off a star. They did see me. I had spoken to one of them to inform them I was here. There were only 2 servers for outside with about 3 or 4 tables a piece. I had to track them down by walking up to them, passing all the other tables to say, «Hey I want some water. I’ve been hiking for about three and a half hours and I need something to eat as well. Please can you accommodate that?» OK, I wasn’t really that big of a bitch about it, but when a girl is hungry and when she’s tired and when she has drove an hour to come here and she wasn’t prepared when she came, what else is she supposed to do? Wait another 15 minutes? Nooooooo! I order the bacon burger and fries and then I got the apple pie a la mode. I was carb loading… or just generally being a fat ass, but I enjoyed my food. I probably took an hour to eat simply to enjoy every bite. Their apple pie is homemade, and it was fierce! The burger was good, the bacon was better! The fries to me were very bland and needed more seasoning. even with a dash of salt, that wasn’t enough to solve that problem. I left half of them untouched. Probably for the best though so I can leave more room for my dessert. I sat on the patio for my dining experience. Patio has several seats available with umbrellas open to cover you while you eat providing plenty of shade. Bathrooms are questionable as far as safety but are sanitary. I wouldn’t really worry about it too much considering how old the building is. The commode just seems like it hadn’t been fixed since it was installed 50 years ago. Would I return? Probably. Prices are reasonable, and you get a lot for what you order. The burgers are a solid option and I would go for above anything else on the menu. Side note — they have vegetarian options. Three of them, but that’s better than nothing.

My review is purely on the service, since we didn’t stay long enough to eat. In the 10 minutes we were there just waiting for a menu, servers passed us three times, and a large group came in at about our 8 minute mark and got their menus immediately. Finally the server came and asked if we wanted menus, and initially we said yes, but as we were still waiting, two other tables got their checks. It’s one thing to get low ratings because of bad food, which from what I hear this place DOESNOT have, but ignoring your customers before they ever get to rate your food seems a terrible way to do business.

They have ice cream and other stuff. The food is actually good if they agree to give it to you. They inexplicably don’t let you buy certain ice creams and say they are out when you see them sitting in the ice cream contained before your eyes. Perplexing. Bathroom is horrifying. Like, it would be more sanitary to go in the gutters out front than use their bathroom. Tables are dirty and every ketchup bottle is empty. It will drive you nuts. At the end of the day the food is delicious. It really is. The service is simply terrible and the restaurant is a mess though.

This place is quite nice for exactly what it is… a CASUAL place to drop I when you need to warm up or cool down from a hike. Just dropped in for a hot chocolate and to warm my face and I was greeted with a friendly hello and a tasty beverage. I feel that while everyone has their own experience but those giving this place super low ratings may simply have unrealistic expectations. Nothing about this place screams luxury… nice little ice cream parlor? Indeed.

The food was basically inedible. You can have flavorless, flaccid cole slaw made out of styrofoam, perhaps, or an «adult» grilled cheese(product) sandwich. Good location and atmosphere, I suppose.

Ehhh big disappointment. Touting themselves as THE place for coffee in HP, they really miss the mark. My husband can’t drink regular caffeinated coffee and I’m breast feeding so decaf is also my only choice. The Coffee Mill doesn’t have any decaf, and their drinks are just one size fits all. The girl taking our order was a bit ditzy, too, and laughed at our request for decaf. No thanks Coffee Mill. Props for a super cute back patio, though.

Not sure why they keep getting such low star ratings. This place literally has the greatest crab cake that has ever been in my mouth. It was so mouth watering I had to get 2 orders of it(like $ 16) and I made sure to eat every crumb on the plate. Ever since I’ve gone here I’ve been trying to find a crab cake that tops the one I had here. Still haven’t found one. minus that, the name of the restaurant is very misleading. They do sell coffee, but It’s barley a coffee shop.

OK, first the strange. All sandwiches were served on kaiser rolls. It seemed like they could have used a couple extra employees, it was lunch hour on a Saturday & service seemed a bit overwhelmed. Also the bathroom was in pretty poor shape, long line & the toilet stopped flushing. The food was pretty good though, I had the veggie sandwich & it was far better than I expected. Lots of flavor, very fresh, crunchy veggies. Total bill with tip included just over $ 100 for two adults & six kids(from 9 to 16). So I’d go back, but it’s not a «can’t miss» place. The ice cream in the photos looks really good, maybe I’ll go that route next time.

Stopped in here for lunch last weekend, and got a totally weird club sandwich– it was served on a ROLL. Undercooked fries and an unappetizing rubbery grilled cheese for my daughter. Very disappointing, and the service was nothing special. The final nail in the coffin(so to speak) the restaurant needs a SERIOUS deep cleaning. I cannot imagine what the kitchen looks like, but the walls were dusty…

After eating a hot dog next door at the Swiss Miss we decided to step 5 feet over to the Coffee Mill to get dessert. Two frozen custards, one vanilla and one chocolate vanilla swirl, were ordered from a very friendly server. They were delicious! One suggestion though. Don’t try to eat frozen custard while hiking uphill towards Jefferson Rock. This is what we did. It was quite difficult hiking up steps and eating our custards before they melted. Breathing is the problem here. Do you breathe or do you eat your custard?
