Our house needed new windows as the ones in our home were the original from the 1950s. We contacted a few places and decided to go with Erie Construction. The salesmen that came out were very friendly, the type you would hang out with outside of work. The customer service reps were understanding and sympathetic. The installation guys were friendly… until there was a problem. The first time around, the bathroom window was ordered wrong, so they would have to come back. No big deal, stuff happens. As the guys were leaving, we noticed a large red mark on our wall. Again, stuff happens, we thought maybe someone brushed up against the wall with equipment or something, we’d just wash it off. Boy, were we wrong. My husband washed the mark off the next day only to discover that someone had decided to doodle a cross on our wall, while taking a dump (how do I know this? The evidence was left in the toilet. I know they were there for hours, and I have no problem whatsoever with them using the bathroom). We contacted one of the salesmen, who was no help, and then the installation manager, who told us to buy the paint and he would reimburse us. Painting our bathroom was not in the plans for us, it was just painted five years ago. And, we felt they should take more responsibility– they vandalized our bathroom wall!!! The customer service rep was sympathetic and said she would get back to us after her vacation next week. Two weeks since the incident and I was told that the installation guys were going to try a solution to remove it. They scheduled to come back out for the bathroom window. It was the same group that had drawn on the wall. I asked the supervisor if the had been made aware of the problem. He said that he had and he could guarantee that none of his men (boys really as they were teens and early 20s) would have drawn on the wall. I said that our children were gone that whole weekend and they do not have that much artistic ability at ages 8, 5, and 3. He continued to argue with me, stating that there were only three guys out that day and none of them would have done that. I corrected him in that there were four men out. He tried to tell me that perhaps the old glass was so obscure that we could not see the drawing before the new glass. I painted that room myself the first time, I know that drawing was not there. He then became beligerant and nasty. I walked away. As he was leaving, he told me that yes, I was right, there were four men out and that the manager was going to send me a gift card «for YOUR problem.» I am saddened and disappointed that this situation was not handled better. I feel violated and taken advantage of. I will never contact Erie construction for work ever again. We will go with someone else to replace the bay windows in our living room.
