Their listed addresses are contradictory(I’m getting 2 different ones from their website), so I urge people to simply donate online… Food insecurity is a global problem, a national problem, a statewide problem, a local problem. In Pennsylvania alone there are well over one million people who do not get 3 adequate meals per diem. They spend their waking hours wondering where and when they’ll eat again. Even when they do eat, the hungry, more often than not, are failing to do so nutritionally. Eating delicious food may be a privilege, but eating regular, healthy meals should be a right. Some of our brothers and sisters in the wealthiest and most powerful nation on Earth skip breakfast, lunch, or dinner, sometimes all 3, for days at a time. Bear in mind that of that one million plus hungry Pennsylvanians, many are children. This is as much an embarassment as it is a crisis, not to mention a crime against humanity. The Pennsylvania Hunger Action Center’s goal is to help eradicate hunger in the state. They seek to achieve this as advocates, investigators, guides, fighters. PHAC publishes studies and newsletters and operates a help line for those in need of assistance, directing them to the appropriate public agencies. Through this, they act as soldiers on behalf of the poor, protecting them from the very austerity measures that threaten to starve them and plunge them into despair. Taking away food stamps, SNAP, welfare, and Social Security will not get Pennsylvania, or the nation or world for that matter, out of this critical situation. Organizations like PHAC can. Give whatever amount you can to PHAC and be cognizant of those among us who sleep with pangs in their stomachs tonight.
