I made the 40 minute drive to Harrison to check out a historical presentation in the community center. The facility was easy to find and sits back in a spacious green space off George Road. Surrounded by a park and beautiful landscaping, the community center hosted a large banquet room for meetings as well as a city council chamber and city offices. The banquet room is filled with eight long, cafeteria-style wooden tables, which compliment the 1970’s décor of the facility. It’s a no-frills environment, but has ample room for large groups. Unfortunately, what knocked this down to two stars was the planning of our event. Outside the banquet room, a stage was set up in the lawn which proceeded to play very loud music throughout the entire 2 hour presentation. We could barely hear our presenter as the walls trembled from the bass. I’ve been to a fair share of concerts, but this one was disturbingly loud. Nothing disrupts an evening than hearing«Sweet Caroline» blaring through a speech about the history of Cincinnati. It would have been better to schedule the presentation and concert on different nights so that this distraction did not happen. It would have been great had the band turned down the bass to a low roar so that the light fixtures didn’t shake over our group’s heads. If you’re hosting an event at Harrison, the facility is spacious and pleasing, but make sure you check the schedule so that you’re not competing with a band.
