A great little hole-in-the-wall. Easy to miss this little shop downtown by the parking garage, but you’ll be glad you stopped in. The guy who runs this is a quiet but friendly type and there’s a huge range of stuff here to peruse. Don’t miss the hilarious and sometimes risqué mixed postcard collection! Wish they’d have a Facebook presence and keep fans updated about what they have in stock, etc. Bring a checkbook!
I love this place. I haven’t been in a few years since I avoid Harrisonburg, but when I was in high school(and almost completely broke) I would walk to Downtown Books some days after school. The owner was always friendly and didn’t seem to mind when I took an hour or more to pick out ten books that cost less than $ 3. He had an entire wall of used books that started at ten cents. I still have a ton of the books I bought from him; they all have the price stamped on the pages at the top. He also puts neat free posters, books, and postcards outside his store on a card table and rack. A friend of mine still has a picture of a fish in a gumball machine that we got in middle school – and we’re 25 now! Go here. Buy books. It’s a small store, but it’s totally worth the trip.
