OMG so good I had the legit best wrap of my entire life. if I could eat that wrap everyday of my life I 10⁄10 would do just that. manager came and asked how everything was and was so nice. I told him that I loved the wrap. well, after going back for the fourth time(for the sole purpose to get this wrap again) they decided to change the menu on me. please disregard my review.

My wife and I stopped in yesterday evening. We were impressed with the décor and cleanliness. Loved the music. Nice atmosphere. The idea of Southern fare is very refreshing. However, the food wasn’t at all what we expected for $$. The salads and appetizers were fresh and tasty but the entrées were unusually salty and over done. Our drinks were below average, again not what we expected for the $$. Our waitresses was extremely nice but the service was slow. We’re glad we finally went to check it out but honestly we are quite disappointed. We will not recommend this restaurant to our friends.

The menu looked intriguing and the entertainment promising. The latter delivered but the food was merely average. I had the sweet tea pork chip which was mostly tasteless and dry. The best part of the meal was the BBQ baked peanuts, hardly worth the $$. Was far better back in the day when this was a greek restaurant. At least my ears got treated to some slide guitar Delta blues, though the acoustics upstairs are horrible.

We are visiting for the week and decided to check out some local restaurants in the downtown area. After walking around for a bit we decided that we would try it out. The staff was very friendly. Gave us recommendations about popular choices, gave us information on what was great in the area, and great service. There were only 3 other tables and they were constantly moving. No one was just standing around, which was nice.

If you read nothing else in my review, read this. COMEHEREFORTHEBRUSSELSSPROUTS! Food: The main dishes are overpriced here. I know it’s supposed to be «up-scale southern comfort food» but damn… I’m not gonna pay nearly 20 bucks for some chicken and waffles! Focus instead on the sandwiches! The sandwiches are delicious, mostly unique and are served with a side included. One again, GETTHEBRUSSELSSPROUTS! You’ve never had them as good as this! They are flash fried and smothered in a sweet and tangy sauce, the experience is near euphoric! Service: Only had good service here. Waiters have all been friendly and professional and provided good advice about which food to try and what their preferences were. Overall: Come here for the sandwiches! I know it’s a whisky bar and southern comfort food oriented but trust me, the sandwiches are where it’s at.

This was my 4th or 5th visit to Jimmy Madison’s — all for lunch. By the end of the meal, after telling work colleagues here from out of town how much we enjoyed the food and that we’d never had a bad meal, my boss and I were just embarrassed. The menu had just changed, so that’s why I’m giving the benefit of the doubt with 2 stars. It took more than 20 minutes to get our meal after ordering and it was not busy — I counted maybe 6 other tables occupied upstairs and down. I got the quinoa wrap which was bland. The fries were not even shoestring fries, more like matchstick, so in order to actually taste the fry, you had to eat 4 or 5 of them at a time and because of the size cooled fast — they were cool to the touch when they arrived at the table.

Had a terrific dinner here tonight. Great food and service. Clam dip and shrimp toast appetizers were both excellent. Our entrees were the ribs and skirt steak. Ribs were perfectly sauced and pulled easily off the bone. The skirt steak was equally perfectly done, and the side of Brussels sprouts were actually magnificent — even Brussels sprouts haters would love these. Conscientious wait staff. Can’t wait to go back!

Whiskey and wings. Those are the two things that I would recommend if you are going to stop by here. We had a terrific experience here, the server Aaron was amazing literally waited on us hand and foot to make sure we had everything we needed. The wings where the best wings I’ve had in years. Other than those things though the main course was a shot at and miss. The mashed potatoes could’ve used a bit more salt, the burger was bland(the rest of the topping where good, just the burger patty its self). I’m sure the staff would’ve fixed it, but they where to awesome to trouble over it.

I’m from the dc area, so I always have great food available to me. I had a so-so culinary experience in massanutten, so I want sure about Harrisonburg. May I just say, I’m in the mood to slap my mama. I had the steak and egg burrito. The meat was plentiful, tender, and we’ll seasoned. The eggs were good as well. The burrito was wrapped in a lovely garlic, herb tortilla. Just yum. My pal had the shrimp and grits. I don’t have much to say about the dish, except that it’s probably one of the best shrimp and grits concoctions I’ve ever tasted. Jimmy Madison’s is the place to be for good food and a relaxed atmosphere.

Service was great. The food itself was awful. Ordered a house sandwich, which has an egg on it, subbed with a veggie burger instead of the beef patty it normally has. Bad decision! 1) the egg was cooked over easy, with raw yoke dripping down the sides. YUCK. If the description said it was cooked that way I wouldn’t have ordered it. 2) the homemade veggie burger was battered and fried! Again, it wasn’t on the menu description. I have to ask, who in the fuck deep fries a veggie burger??? Avoid this place like the plague. Menu needs an overhaul and so does the kitchen staff.

We came for restaurant week. Menu choices were varied and we loved everything we had. The whiskey cocktails alone are worth coming for.

Stopped in here last weekend and I’m surprised the crowd wasn’t larger. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly. I also liked the appearance inside and would recommend this place to others. Beers on tap were good and a good craft selection. My fiancé had the fried green tomato sandwich and I had the special burger that had fried onions and jalapeños on it. Both came with sides of roasted Brussels sprouts. All very good. If you’re in the area, check this place out. Next time we’re in town well look to return.

Jimmy Madison’s is a cool place, a nicely renovated old building with lots of charm. The menu is very interesting, lots of interesting choices for everyone. I had the fried chicken sandwich with the brussels sprouts for the side dish. The brussels sprouts were really good, I love this as a side dish option. The sandwich itself was OK. The bun was great, the chicken could have used more seasoning maybe-it seemed bland. The server was great, very nice and quick.

Great restaurant. The sweet potato poutine is a true winner for appetizer. The pork on top of it is amazing. Tried a few of the beers and they were amazing. Didn’t try whiskey the first time going but need to try one next time. Got the jimmy burger for entrée. Just a warning, they don’t ask you how you want it cooked so it is default medium well. I asked for it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Just don’t forget to say how you want it cooked. What I really want to talk about is the side dish. Fries are a dollar extra if you substitute. I recommend you don’t substitute because the Brussel sprouts are the best I’ve ever tasted! So good! The whole table was obsessed with them. People were saying they would eat the Brussel sprouts by themselves for an entire meal. Overall a great meal. A bit expensive for a college budget but definitely doable. Loved it!

4.5 /5 stars! Just two small issues… A very refreshing take on a familiar space! The look of the place is interesting but not overdone. There was one O’Doul’s neon sign on the wall in the corner that made no sense in the space but whatever. Not a big deal. All the food that we had was excellent! We started with the sweet potato poutine and had the grilled salmon salad and the fried chicken sandwich for our entrees. We were pretty hungry so the fact that the poutine was heavy was not a problem… it also helped that it tasted so good! Every component was flavorful, mixing savory and a little sweet. I posted a picture of it. His chicken sandwich was huge and amazing with crispy chicken and pickles. My salmon salad was very well done. The salmon was grilled perfectly and the fruit and nuts in the salad have a great crunch to complement the fresh veggies and tasty vinaigrette. I deducted .5 stars for two small reasons: first, I would have preferred a slightly larger piece of salmon but I understand that it tends to be expensive and all that; my second issue was that they do not yet have a list of cocktails that specifically sell/educate people on trying new whiskeys. Fortunately, according to our server, they are working on that list. Which brings me to the service. Our waiter was wonderful! He was helpful, quick, and extremely personable without being annoying about it. Looking forward to many meals and cocktails at this place!

A(relatively) quiet place to have a dram and a snack(or a meal) and hang out with friends. I’m really excited that Harrisonburg has a place like this now. The atmosphere is good, although there are a couple of TVs that(IMO) are distracting. The bourbon and whiskey selection is relatively small at the moment, although I imagine it will grow over time. They’ve started with some solid choices, though. I took a friend along who is a huge rye fan, and one of the local VA ryes was so good he pledged to purchase a bottle before he left town. I haven’t had enough of the food to have much of an opinion, although I can say the fried pickles were good. Looking forward to visiting again! One caution: it appears that the wait staff have not yet tasted all of the whiskeys offered. This is an unfortunate oversight that I hope the management will correct soon.
