We needed a friendly place to stop and change our baby girl as we were driving between Blacksburg, VA and Washington, DC. We found Strites Donuts and it is fantastic. Their donuts beat all the farmer’s market/​Eastern market/​handmade pastries I’ve had here in DC. They’re handmade, large, with great batter and glazing. We had a blueberry and a peanut butter donut. If we had these available in DC from a food truck or coffee shop they’d be a huge hit.
The facilities there are very clean and inviting, with inspirational sayings and everything. This is a great place to stop if you’re traveling I-​81.

This should have been better. I was expecting near fresh donuts — the type you might get at Carpe Donut in CVille or the Fractured Prune places in MD. If not just made then I would hope for the quality of Carol Lee in Blacksburg. But this was not there. These were somewhat heavy, somewhat past their prime. Fortunately, they were way better than the stale free samples on the counter.
They were better than Dunkin Donuts, although Dunkin has a more pleasant atmosphere. This was a bit down scale. The counter person was not unfriendly, but also was not upbeat and welcoming. Two stars hits it right on the nose. Glad I tried it, will not return again.

First time there and got a chocolate covered donut. The amount of chocolate on the MASSIVE donut was fabulous — lots of it! The cake part of the donut, though, I didn’t really care for. It’s hard to describe; it reminded me of bread… a donut-​shaped piece of regular bread. I ended up eating the chocolate off and threw the cake part away.
The reason for the 4 stars is the cuteness of the shop, the super sweet young lady who works there, and the beautiful bathroom (yes, that’s the first time I’ve written that in a review!). The place is a gas station, but the ladies room has a little table with a cloth cover, vase, basket, lotions, and amenities we ladies enjoy. Never ever have I seen such a thoughtful and lovely little ladies room in a gas station! :)
I’d definitely return — will skip the donuts, but will buy other snacks and beverages… and use the ladies room and fill up at the gas tank.

Delicious donuts. We got 6 for $ 6. (They are $ 1 each). The owner was there and saw I had on a Baltimore Ravens sweater and gave me a free donut. She said anyone who comes in with Ravens wear gets a free donut if she is there!

Holy Cow! These babies are HUGE and delicious! Wow! I’m impressed. As a Southerner who grew up on (and misses) Krispy Kreme, this is an amazing find. Well done, Strites. Had the raspberry filled as well as a taste of the Bavarian crime and both were great

New donut place for me to try. The donuts are large, but the texture is confusing. They seemed too dense to be yeast raised, but too light to be cake. Still they were delicious. I ate two before I even left the parking lot. It’s pretty low-​key for a donut shop located inside a Liberty gas station. No spectacular display’s, just good donuts. With the exception of a very difficult left turn into the parking lot, it’s very close to the interstate. If you are in Harrisonburg, it’s worth a stop.

The left turn into this place is killer, but it sure is worth it. These donuts are so good, I would be okay if they were my demise.
Delicious fluffy delectable donuts! I tried the glazed and chocolate covered. Now, I’ve been around the donut scene for a while (up in DC) and everyone is doing these crazy favors with toppings and this and that. That’s great, but nothing holds a candle to a well made donut. Simple, delicious, well made. This is what you are getting at Strite’s. I would take these over any frou-​frou topped donut any day of the week.
These are just out of this world good. The fact that I have discovered this place after living here most of my life is very bad. Very bad indeed.

Amazing donuts worth stopping if traveling on 81. I like the blueberry. All are good though.

Convenience and consistent quality — Strite’s Donuts has quickly become one of my favorite I-​81 road trip stops. Located just off campus, this place clearly is popular for JMU students to stop by any day but Sunday.
When traveling to visit family while driving north through the Shenandoah Valley, I used to always stop at Kline’s Frozen Custard to get a pint of chocolate, vanilla or their special flavor of the week. Now I have to split my time 50 – 50 between here and there. This is a good problem to have when procuring a dessert or snack to share!
My default selections here include the cinnamon-​sugar and the blueberry donuts. These sweet circles are a bit larger than your typical Krispy Kreme glazed pastries. They typically offer at least five and sometimes up to 10 varieties, including fan favorites like powdered sugar, glazed, chocolate covered and various fruit fillings. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a donut with sprinkles offer here, but they do have tasty boxes of donut holes.
Strite’s is a simple place and while I have never actually gotten gas there, there are pumps and some indoors seating, along with coolers of drinks and hot coffee for sale too. If I can manage to buy some and get them home without digging in while in the car, I enjoyed cutting the donuts up into eight smaller bite-​size pieces to share. Yum, yum and yum!

Located at 710 Port Republic Road in a Liberty Gas Station (google thinks its located downtown and I had trouble finding it). I was passing through and looking for something other than a dunkin donuts. Donuts were hot and fresh. Didn’t care for the glazed donut. Ate half. I guess this place isn’t my cup of tea.

Began eating these at Dayton days then they got a food truck which most people I know would follow around Harrisonburg or wherever they popped up. So glad they now have a permanent location so we can get our love handles on! The cinamon and sugar do the trick for me, don’t need any toppings really. Huge donuts that are fried and made fresh daily. Do not taste greasy but rather light, airy, and better than any Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donut donuts from a chain. These will change your life.

Very good! Find them. Eat them!

Great little shop right off 81 at the Port Republic exit. Young, friendly crew was helpful recommending some flavors for a few dozen I was grabbing for an office.
And the donuts? Wow, really good, BIG country-​style donuts produced right in front of you in the open kitchen. Really great flavor and consistency– just allocate some time for a nap about an hour after you eat one
Had a coffee to go and their coffee was surprisingly good as well. I feel like they could offer a locally roasted coffee as something interesting for all of the 81 travelers, but I rate this place a 10 outta 10!!!

Delicious donuts and lovely people. The donuts are light and airy, not greasy. When you walk in the place you don’t smell grease.

Strites permanent retail location in Harrisonburg is a nice addition to the local food scene. The donuts are made in the spot and much higher quality than Dunkin Donuts, but with less variety. The donuts are manly in size and only $ 1 each.
