I’m salivating just remembering the chicken for this review. Succulent meat protected beneath a thin layer of perfectly crisp skin. I cannot rave enough about the food here. Not only is the quality superlative, but the quantity of food they give is generous, too. While the chicken is the clear star of the meal, the fries deserve a quick shout out as well. If you’re craving chicken, this is the place to get it.

Great, quality fried chicken. Juicy meat, light but delicious breading and skin. Had the chicken platter; three large pieces, healthy serving of fries, and a roll. There’s little I can say, because the chicken truly speaks for itself. As an out-of-town visitor who has had a lot of fried chicken, I was impressed.

I wouldn’t say it’s the best fried chicken I’ve ever had, but it was quite tasty and satisfying. The place is a dive, but the service was good. A one man show; an impressive and efficient guy who was attentive and quick. We ordered the 8 piece with a large fry. The chicken is small and tender(I hate chicken on steroids) fried nicely and crispy, but still moist. The flavor was very mild and it could probably be spiced a tad more, but hey, it’s worked for them so who am I? The fries were underwhelming. Frozen matchstick fries, but fried well and crispy. Everything was fried perfectly; not greasy or heavy at all. An overall good experience. We’ll go back. You should try it!

This is a basic bare bones chicken joint that keeps things pretty simple with a short menu of fried chicken and seafood. It’s made to order so it’s fresh, but the wait time is pretty long even if it’s not so busy. The proprietor is friendly and the food is simple. I wish the French fries were hand cut, and that there was a little more going on with seasoning all around. Not sure that I would go out of my way to come back, but worth a try.

Best fried chicken I have ever tasted, better than some of the places I have tried in the south. It’s like your grandma is making the chicken for you as you wait, no frozen breaded chicken here. She breads them by hand and takes her time to make sure its perfect… and it is!!! If not for the health concerns of eating fried foods too frequently, I would be at this place every day.

The chicken is lightly fried with a high pile of french fries. The food is delicious and is the definition of comfort food. The fiancé loves this place! I wouldn’t recommend walking alone in this area, especially after dark.

Dear Human When I hatched moist feathered from my tender egg and looked blindingly at the sun, I never dreamed I could be so delicious. I feared I was destined for some KFC double batter meal deal, but instead I was served by loving hands, in a gem of a family run restaurant. I was fresh and crispy, and served in a backdrop of vintage red vinyl seating. Bliss

This restaurant is a little gem! The Greek owners have been here since 1959 and have been running this awesome place ever since. The broasted chicken .addicting. My companion and I ordered 8 pieces of chicken and a large plate of perfectly cooked french fries. Everything was cooked magnificently. It is so good! Sylvia, the owner, is a sweetheart. She uses her very own chicken recipe! Visit this place if you’re a chicken-lover and you’re around the area. You won’t regret it!

On the way back home from a trip in CT, this seemed like a great hole in the wall to stop by for a bite before NY. We were the only people at the restaurant, but the place still had a lovely kitsch to it. The freshly fried chicken had a crispy thin skin. Hot sauce packets compliment the chicken well. A great way get a cheap and delicious fried chicken meal in.

Best roasted/fried chicken I have ever had. Light and crispy, not greasy at all, and Silvia was so loving and genuine. Definitely the neighborhood mama. I’m from over an hr away but will definitely be back!

The review is strictly for the food — the décor is basic hole-in-the-wall dump(take out all the way). There’s one thing I order, and they do it really really well — fried chicken. Okay, there are french fries served with the fried chicken, but they’re pretty run of the mill. The chicken is great, crispy, plenty of it, definite comfort food. They also serve fried shrimp, fried scallops, fried fish — you get the picture — but I don’t order any of it except for fried chicken. As other reviewers have said, the neighborhood is so-so, but I’ve never had any problems.

This is by far hands down great chicken! Definitely better than Popeyes or KFC! Broaster chicken tastes so good and crispy! I do recommend trying this place if you are in the area you can even do take out!

Came here one day for lunch and got a «chicken plate» to go. I recommend calling ahead and placing your order if you are taking out, as it takes a good 20 minutes for them to make the chicken and fries fresh. The chicken plate came with a wing, drumstick and a thigh and a large helping of fries. The chicken was fresh, flavorful and crispy. The fries were very good as well. Not sure I could be a regular of this place as fried chicken is not really my thing, but I would definitely recommend it to others. Open until 4am on weekends, not that you would catch me anywhere near Broad and Park anytime after dark.

OMG! This chicken is SOGOOD! The coating is light and crisp, almost dry and perfectly golden all around. The chicken inside was perfectly cooked and still dripping with moisture. No heavy spices. No thick batter to make tiny pieces seem more substantial(Do you hear me KFC?). No heavy, bloated, «What did I just do?» feeling in your stomach afterwards. Found this place on Unilocal during a drive from NYC to Boston with my family. We had a sleeping baby and didn’t want to get out of the car so we were looking for something we could eat while driving without a huge mess. Stopped in on Sunday afternoon and the place was empty. We placed our order for eight pieces of chicken and watched the guy go in the back, grab the chicken, toss it in the seasoned flour and drop it into the fryer /Broaster. After fifteen mins or so the chicken came out, sat on the cooling rack for a couple of mins, then went into the box and we were on our way. Only once we had left did we realize how amazing this chicken is. I was wishing we’d gotten the 16 piece box so we could eat it again. I expected to eat maybe one piece since I wasn’t feeling all that hungry, but I kept going back to that box for more. KFC, Popeye’s, Stop and Shop, etc. etc. etc. can all go suck it.,

Oh Broasterant. You are so delicious. I will eat your broasted(not fried) chicken at anywhere. And before I break out into some Seussical nonsense, let me just say: 1) Broasterant is an excellent drive restaurant in the frog hollow –park st. area of Hartford. They serve excellent boasted chicken at pretty much any hour of the day. 2) For $ 10 you get a box of 4 pieces of this beautiful creation, along with some pretty solid thin cut fires and a Portuguese roll. 3) If you live in or near Hartford(or just passing through) make a point to go eat this for lunch, dinner, or late night snack. Chicken never tasted so good.

Broasted chicken, eh? Who knew! Crispy skin, succulent meat — tastes suspiciously fried to me. But it’s NOT. Which makes it all the less artery busting. Seriously, this place is top notch and the skimpy menu is anything but devoid of flavor. Chicken, fried clams, fried scallops and, well, fries are about all you can order but luckily they’re enough to satisfy. Chicken is fresh, cooked to order, and exploding with flavor sans all the grease. And when I say ‘cooked to order’ I really mean that the owner goes into the back, cuts up a whole chicken and starts gettin’ her broast on. Broasterant has been around since the 60’s and they seem to be doing something right! Also, I sincerely doubt they’ve changed their décor since opening but it adds to the charm.

It’s hard to believe this chicken isn’t fried because it sure does taste fried! Crispy on the outside but moist and tender on the inside. Served freshly cooked, piping hot. But it’s broasted– not fried. Even better for you. I could eat chicken daily and this was some of the best I’ve had. I only wish it were closer to home because I would become a frequent visitor.

Holy broasted chicken! This place is old school and has been doing it this way since 1968. I’ve not seen chicken prepared this way since I used to go with my father as a kid to the old Maryland Fried Chicken in New Britain. Absolutely loved the 70’s chic style décor for the red colored booths where you sit. But now on to the food because that’s what matters. The menu is not complicated and everything is hand prepared and cooked to order, so be patient. Fresh is the word here, Chicken, fries, buttered rolls, onion rings, fried clams and fried scallops. That’s about it. The broasting of the chicken leaves it perfectly crisp on the outside and very juicy inside. No grease and that is the difference between frying and broasting. If you’ve never tried chicken this way, please do so and do it here. I came in as part of a walking food tour with fellow Unilocalers and was a bit full, so I only tried the chicken. That’s all I needed. I cannot wait to go back and try the rest of this menu.

Every restaurant should operate like this. A greek woman who has been working the counter for 50 years, does everything the way they did on the day this place opened back in the 50’s and hasn’t changed a thing. Why should every restaurant operate this way? Because when you order chicken here, she goes into the back, cuts a whole chicken into pieces, applies seasoning, breading and cooks each piece to order. When you can see it, you know your food is fresh. The chicken was delightfully tasty, crispy, moist, everything a good piece of fried chicken should be. Wait a minute… i said fried, but they’re not fried, they’re broasted. A process that involves very little oil and actually cooks the chicken from the inside-out. It’s healthier, tastier, and fresher than any other place serving fried chicken in this area. If you’re thinking chicken, think Broasterant.
