Las Vias

I want to start off by saying that the food is good. It isn’t amazing, but it is decently priced Mexican food with nice flavor.
However, the service is atrocious. The waitress was friendly, and delivered drinks quickly. However, drink refills were difficult to comeby. We had to repeatedly flag down buspeople to get refills.
Once we ordered, it took about 45 minutes to an hour for the food to actually arrive. One of our party’s orders was wrong. We spoke to the gentleman who delivered the plate. He said he’d have to check with our waitress and disappeared. After five minutes, we spoke with a different gentleman. He took the plate back but wasn’t clear on if it would be fixed. We then were finally able to speak with our waitress. She had failed to correctly relay the order to kitchen staff.
Twenty minutes later they delivered the entrée. It was still incorrect. At this point we opted to just keep it as it was too much hassle to attempt to have it corrected again.
As I said earlier, the food was good. It took a considerable time to pay, during which the cashier did not apologize for the wait. One of our friends also placed a to go order. We were told it would be ready in 15 minutes. 30 minutes later we were told it would be right out. 45 minutes later we were again told that it was coming right out. It took over an hour to get the to go order that was supposed to have taken 15 minutes.
Once we finally did get the order, we requested that some sort of compensation take place. Considering how the restaurant had quoted no longer than 15 minutes and it had taken over an hour. The gentleman at the front desk reacted poorly and generally had an air that implied that we were inconveniencing him. He did not apologize for the wait. He did not apologize for the misleading time quote.
While the food is good, the service is atrocious. We won’t be going there again and Id advise against anyone else going as well. Go down the road to El Portal where the food is just as good but the service is better.

Pretty good Mexican food. Only thing is, I wished they had the ranch dip like their store in Decatur. Good, friendly service

I have to leave a review of Las-​Vias! It’s an awesome little Mexican restaurant here in Hartselle. It’s my daughter’s favorite place to eat in Hartselle.

BBQ chicken nachos with no vegetables are the best. Get the half order though because it fills up the entire plate. I would hate to see what the full order would be. Prices good. Does not take debit cards here but will write down your info and call someone to do it which is kinda weird. Staff was on cell phone for the entire time we was there. If they are gonna be on their phone then at least do it away from customers.

The meal we had here was the worst meal we’ve had since moving to Alabama in 2000. After reading the online reviews we decided to try this place, since we would be in the area for soccer tournaments. We love Mexican shrimp cocktail but don’t care for the ketchup based kind… too sweet for us. I called ahead of time and asked if theirs was ketchup based and was told no. Happily my daughter and I ordered one each and it was sweet. Ketchup… yikes! We told them we specifically asked about the ketchup and they said we’re sorry we don’t know who u spoke with but our cocktails have always been ketchup based. Do u know who u spoke w/​because no one here recalls speaking to anyone on the phone about the cocktail. I tried a fork full of hubby’s Spanish rice, flavorless. Grand daughter’s tortilla soup lacked seasoning. Our food took about 40 minutes to come out. When we went to pay the bill the cashier was on the phone and taking peoples money. My daughter had to correct him 4 times as he entered the wrong price on several items listed on her check. She tried speaking w/​him but he was too busy chatting on the phone to reply to her instead he just nodded yes when she’d point out his ringing things up wrong. Change the amount and continue chatting w/​phone buddy.

Very good Mexican food. Especially for AL. Coming from Cali, I know what Mexican should taste like and this place knows what’s up. I rated it only 4 stars because a lot of their menu has items on it that have been modified in a way to have less flavor because the local «gringos» like it a certain way. If you really like Mexican food and really like some good spicy guacamole, then ask for it to be prepared «authentica». Overall great place!

Amazing salsa, delicious food, reasonable prices. Give the Sancho a try.
