Here’s what happened. I was at the airport in Chicago the day before Christmas Eve, on my way down to visit my parents in Hartselle. I was chomping on a piece of pizza, and bit down in such a way that I painfully caught my lower tooth on my upper tooth, and was convinced I’d accidentally pulled it out. I even started looking on the ground to see where it went. It turns out I didn’t lose the tooth; it was still in my mouth, but very loose and bleeding profusely. I didn’t know what to do. Go home, miss the flight, and try to get in to see my dentist ASAP? Or grab some napkins for the bleeding, get on the flight, and see if I could find a dentist in Hartselle the next morning? Since it was after 6:00 on December 23 I figured both options were long shots; I choose the latter. First thing the next morning my dad called Dr. Hendrix. We expected to get his answering service, leave a message, and hope he’d call back. I didn’t have high hopes considering it was the morning of Christmas Eve. Instead, we got a live person. It was Dr. Hendrix! He said he just happened to be in the office doing paperwork, and if we could get to his office pretty quick, he’d take a look. We immediately went there, and he ushered me back to his examining area. Long story short, the tooth was going to be okay. I just really wrenched it in the socket, and he said it would feel loose and sore for a while(which it did — for several weeks). I just needed to be careful with it. As we were walking out, I offered to pay him for the visit, and he refused my money. He just said to «pay it forward.» Not only was he friendly, professional and knowledgeable, he truly exemplified the Christmas spirit. Oh yeah, and his office was really, really nice. You may notice it took me seven months to finally write this review. And yes, it’s way overdue. But the positive takeaway is that I haven’t forgotten the generosity of Dr. Hendrix even in all this time — probably because it’s so rare. If you live in Hartselle(or even remotely close), I strongly recommend Dr. Hendrix. If it were feasible for me to see him regularly from Chicago, I would!
