From the warm Wellfleet oyster to the apple tart, excellent.

We’ve been wanting to try L’Alouette for a few years and finally went a couple of nights ago — the service was great! The food was *really* disappointing. There was absolutely nothing special about it. So-so flavors and presentation. It’s more like mediocre American-French cuisine than a French restaurant. We are happy to pay more for an exceptional meal, but for $ 160 without tip, the food at L’Alouette is not anywhere near worth the price.

Absolutely fantastic meal. I could not — still can’t — believe the prix fixe prices. Run don’t walk. Only disappointment was that several of the entrée choices were not available for the evening, as they had run out.(Not a bad sign, truth be told.)

This place was just magical!(we ate dinner here on Monday, Nov 10) We were greeted and offered a table in a back room to have all to ourselves, which was lovely! We started with Ellen as our server but things changed and we went on with Rose. Both were funny and very nice. Décor, feels like a very cozy home. Dim lights and friendly atmosphere. Starters: Lobster, crab and corn fritters with a chili sweet sauce. These had a perfect light crust on the outside and smooth texture on inside. The flavor was popping. We also opted for the gnocci. This were simply brilliant, the softest most pillowy gnochi I have ever had. They came in a cream sauce with fresh peas, mushrooms and a bit of bacon. I couldnt stop raving about them. Entrees: Hubby had the cajun scallops, which were big and cooked to perfection. I had the salmon which was so light and melted in my mouth. We were too stuffed for dessert at this point. Overall this was one of the best anniversary dinners! Would love to go back again and again!

Great service. Great atmosphere. Entries? Not so much great! I was hoping so much to ravish«The Duck Two Ways» but unfortunately the plate fell short. The duck breast«skinless» tasted pre cooked with out that red center resembling a great steak. The confit leg? My guess, was a baked chicken leg. Other dishes in our table included«Sea of Love» which is a pasta dish. The plate seemed to be lacking in flavor, tasting bland, as if it was missing something. A French fare, don’t think so. It’s more like Ménage à trois where America, France and Italy fall short as one of them forgot the viagra. Must admit, I did love the service and atmosphere. L’Alouette just needs to find what county its libito resides.

Recently went there with my wife my cousin and her hubby, I have been a fan of Christian since Christian’s he always has his twist on the menu making his food stand out from the crowd and his staff is a loyal seasoned staff that is extremely attentive. Rose is a doll(just thrown it out there) local specials and another twist they are closed«Tuesday & Wednesday» not Monday. Will be back again

Happy to have dined here for the first time in a long time! I had the Duck Two Ways which was a generous portion of duck and duck confit served with rice, green beans and a small portion of delicious cabbage. Plenty of quality food for the $ 28 entrée price. The atmosphere is quite comfortable and the staff was extremely attentive. The only weak link was the dinner rolls but the butter was delicious! Very nice wine selection and wine by the glass keeps it quite reasonable. Dessert was a piece of key lime pie which was delicious with fresh-brewed coffee. I will definitely return as the Sea of Love(seafood medley over pasta) looks incredible! Overall, a fantastic dining experience!

L’Aloutette has been around a long time and you might be tempted to drive past on cluttered Route 28 on the way out of Harwich Port to Chatham. But do drive in. The pleasant dinner experience begins with the pleasant staff at the door, and continues through to the check presentation. I joined some friends for a classic French meal and was not disappointed. You might not find nouvelle French cuisine here, but that’s not what Cape Cod is about anyway. When you need a break from fried clams and lobster rolls, L’Alouette will be ready to bring you Olde World food in a quiet, relaxing environment.

The server was very good. But we have been to many French bistros, and for us the key is robust taste. Traditional bistro food should be comfort food. Special menu items should delight with seasonal spark. We found the food to be just ok, and we won’t go back for just ok is not good enough for that price point. Where is the crusty French bread? Where is the garlic in the escargot? What kind of bland presentation was that for salmon? I couldn’t see or taste the dill. We need a good French bistro. The duck with peach was better. This place should do more better. Atmosphere a bit stuffy. Restaurant did seem to attract a much older crowd, and perhaps they like the quieter vibe. But it is the height of vacation season! We prefer some energy in the setting and most definitely really good tasting French food.

Never thought I would rave about a French restaurant but I love this place! The atmosphere is always comfortable and romantic. The food is phenomenal. I had the halibut with creamy risotto, and asparagus and it was perfect. The service is always great. My husband had the seafood over pasta and they did not disappoint with the amount of seafood. The last time I was here it was on a busy Saturday night and our server was funny, knowledgeable and did not rush us. She also answered any questions we had. The wine menu was not overpriced and it had a good selection. The first time I came here was over the winter months. It’s nice that even during the season the restaurant continues to provide impeccable service and delicious food.

My husband and I have dined at L’Alouette dozens of times, year round. Our last visit there was disappointing because of a rude bartender who just doesn’t understand good customer service. The food and waitstaff are always excellent, but the bartender needs some people skills. We will be taking a break from this restaurant because of the bartender.

We had our Rehearsal Dinner here on 4⁄18. It was amazing! They took us early because our rehearsal ended earlier than we expected, the service was awesome and the food was delicious. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. Thanks! Alexis & Justin

Highly recommended! Was taken here by my boyfriend for my birthday and I have to say it did not disappoint. We were eager to try the escargot which turned out to be the star of the meal! The service was wonderful-staff was very attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back again!

The food is definitely very good, but couldn’t believe the waiter was not honest with us. I actually asked if the veal was madellions before ordering and he said yes, They were veal cubes — very good — but I again brought it up when the bill was presented … Then he admitted it when I said it wasn’t madellions. Also brought me the wrong after dinner drink and twisted the story by saying he didn’t think I wanted what I ordered. Again, the food is very good, but be careful to be sure you get what you ordered!

Confit of duck– excellent. Gumbo– excellent. Mussels-excellent. Rigatoni Bolognese– good. Bread– forget about it. Wine list– good, but way overpriced. Waiter– an unhappy, slightly cranky guy trying too hard that he wasn’t unhappy. Isn’t really a French restaurant anymore, but kind of American/French/Italian. Newish owner/chef may want to return to Alouette’s origins, and PLEASE, how about some French baguettes– but overall, a positive experience.

This place has the feeling that they may be hurting for business… which isn’t a bad thing and I could be completely wrong. We had exceptional service and the team really worked well together. The host, two waiters and chef all seemed to be on the same page and it showed throughout the night. They were honest with the menu and history of recent management change. I’ll put it out there… this place is expensive. It looks expensive, it sounds expensive… it is EXPENSIVE. This is a nice treat for the upscale locals or vacationing tourists with something to celebrate. My wife and I went full tilt on this dinner and tested the staff. I had two bloody Mary’s that were amazing and she had reselling… that wasn’t even on the menu and that the host was able to track down in the owners stock. Bonus points. We started with lobster fritters which were amazing and tasted light. My wife went with the sea of love which had tons of shrimp, lobster, and scallops along with pasta and some great sauce. I ordered the grilled sword fish that had a great sauce over the top of it. The potatoes were weak but the veggie mix made up for it. We topped off the night with chocolate mousse and crème brûlée. No complaints there. This place looks fancy so wear a collared shirt. They’ll serve you otherwise but you’ll feel awkward(like I did). Be prepared to open the wallet… it will be worth it.

Very disappointing meal. Great salads. Very good service, though I had to ask for more water when there were more wait staff than diners in the place. My halibut special was way overcooked, dry and in a sauce with no taste or seasoning. New management needs to adapt quickly or they are doomed. UPDATE: My wife got violently ill the next evening, about 28 hours after eating fish here. That is right in the correct time range for botulism. I would not make this remark if I did not feel strongly that it was related to this meal.

I have to reiterate Richard C’s update from below. Under new management, the fare truly failed to impress(although quality of service is undiminished, and the dining room is clean and simply elegant). Cocktails were a mystery(a Manhattan with dry vermouth, and lemon instead of a cherry? Blasphemy! Only made worse by the fact that it was indeed ticketed as 3 items like in Richard’s review, totalling $ 14). Appetizers were quite strong — bisque was creamy and delicious, tomato basil soup was mouthwatering, and the risotto was excellent. Dinner was, however, a mess. The cod was battered like carnival food, and plated as a massive unappetizing yellow sheet with bland, unseasoned, overcooked orzo. The steak was adequately grilled(and enormous), but nowhere near worth the nearly $ 40 price tag. All in all, there’s promise, but the menu is far from a fine dining experience under the new management. Avoid until they straighten things out.

Late day decision to dine out. Called at 3:30 for reservations and to our surprise we lucked out. Friendly staff and excellent food made for a great night. Rack of lamb was excellent as was the haddock and salmon. Over all the experience was great. Try the endive salad… great. We will be back.

This place is a hidden French gem in the Cape. Their June special of $ 55 for 3 courses and 3 full-sized wine pairings has got to be one of the best deals in the area. All of the food was delectable(or maybe it was the 3 glasses of wine effect). Despite my haziness, I still recall the duck confit appetizer being particularly memorable — a whole leg of crispy duck under a bed of garlicky spinach. The warm apple tart tatin was also a perfect finish to a satisfying French meal.
