I love the menu at the Blue Finn Grille. The food is so perfectly and creativly prepared. But the service just does not match. The wait staff is not rude; but service is indifferent; and that simply is not cool. I was a server for 17 years. I know what good service is. Someone is not training the staff. The waitstaff appears unhappy. Is it because business is slow some evenings? Does the waitstaff feel unappreciated? Are the chefs tyrannical? I know that if I am in a very nice restaurant and paying $ 22 plus for an entrée, I want the server to be cordial, and even friendly,(as I am as a customer, since I know how difficult the job can be). I want the server to check with me a few minutes into to main course to make sure all is well. I do not want, in a very small dining area, to hear the staff discussing personal issues. I do not want loud popular music in that small area making it difficult to talk with my companion. I really love the food and menu choices. But there other dining sites on the same street which offer good food as well as a welcoming atmosphere. I give 4 stars because the food and décor is so good. Just train the staff.

Food was very good. Service was excellent. Place was empty on a cold Wednesday night. 3 – 4 couples in the place. Grabbed a table and ordered the fried clam app. Was very big. Much bigger than I expected. Made me sorry I ordered an entrée. Clams were cooked perfectly. I choked them down. My scallop and shrimp with jasmine rice and egg roll arrived and it was a great presentation. The scallops were seared lightly and the shrimp were firm. It had a spicy Asian sauce that I dipped everything in. The egg roll was very good as well. Great meal

My Friend and I ate there last night. The restaurant was clean and the waitstaff was attentive. The food was excellent. I had the shrimp scampi, note(the menu item says lobster and shrimp) I requested the dish to be made with just shrimp. I would say it was the best Shrimp Scampi I have ever had. Everything was fresh and the flavors of the dish blended nicely. There were 9 extra large shrimp in my dish. I will be going back in a couple of weeks to enjoy this dish again. My friend had the haddock. He requested that the haddock be seasoned with the Cajun spices first then baked in the breadcrumbs as was described in the menu. He had the asparagus and substituted the risotto for the mashed potatoes. The piece of haddock was hugh and cooked to perfection. He also commented on how good the asparagus was and I tasted his risotto and it was incredible. We splurged and ordered desert. It was homemade bread pudding with a layer of choclate and some coconut. It was served with homemade whipped cream and a caramel brandy sauce. It was incredible. I could have eaten two servings.

My husband and I arrived just as the restaurant opened. My seat was filthy, which baffles me because no one had eaten there since the night before. The martinis were delicious and well worth the money. The fish tacos were tasty, but they were also a ripoff. The cost was $ 11 for two tiny tacos. My husband loved his dinner, but mine was just okay. I got a seafood stew that consisted of 75% onions. I don’t mind paying premium prices for superior service, but the $ 125 check was steep for a dinner for two. I should also add that we were at the restaurant for two hours and only one other couple came in. I don’t know how this place stays open.

Great food and great presentation. The chef is a true artist. I ordered a seafood dish with pineapple salsa – was perfectly prepared. I took off one star because the tables were placed very close together. However, I would go back.

+: seated quickly w/o wait at 7pm saturday, but they do take reservations, size of entrée and app HUGE and quality is still good/consistent…small dining area, cozy… dessert one of the best homemade bread pudding with fresh whip cream, seafood pasta specialty was fully loaded with seafood -: inside décor looks drab… it wouldnt hurt if owner cleaned it up a bit by getting floors waxed or professionally steamed to get slight stale smell out… husband’s steak was cooked well done all though asked for medium??? but because of overall gd experience didnt want to complain…

This restaurant never disappoints. We usually get pan-crusted tuna and/or scallops. Atmosphere is wonderful. Food is delicious. Specials and desserts are also great.

First off, I have been here in the past and the food and service were good — pricey for Haverhill, but good. We recently returned, however, and the experience was simply unacceptable. First: the cocktails. $ 12 for a «premium» martini. Yikes. For this kind of money I would expect fresh Queen Anne olives; what I was served instead were tiny, old olives that tasted so bad I immediately spat them out of my mouth into a napkin. It also took a good 15 minutes to get our drinks, mostly because the bartender was too busy chatting up some people at the bar. It was quiet and there were not many customers present at the time. Ordered the baked crab and artichoke dip appetizer, which was very good($ 12). For entrees, my wife ordered the Mahi-Mahi and I ordered the Panko/Coconut Tuna.($ 26 each) I ordered the tuna rare, which on the very outside it was, but was fully cooked inside; that’s not rare. Both meals were served with the exact same«dipping» sauce, which for $ 26 per entrée I would have expected something a little more original with each dish. The Mahi-Mahi was over done as well. The server’s personality was rather flat and unfriendly; I felt like we were an imposition on her. She was extremely slow and inattentive. Rather than start complaining and sending our meals back, we finished quickly and left; we will not be back. Considering the prices they charge you would expect better quality and service. It’s too bad, because we really did enjoy our previous visits. Something is badly wrong here and this establishment has serious management issues that it needs to immediately address. I would really question the«4+ star» reviews this establishment has received in recent months, because they just don’t jive with what we experienced.

Went to the Blue Finn last night for the first time with my wife, we were given a gift card to the restaurant. After reading the Unilocal reviews and some other diners recommending that reservations be made, I called and left a message for the number of people and time. Arrived on time and was seated next to a window(my wife with her back to the window) it was 15 degrees outside. She said the draft was too much and requested to move(this place has a small number of tables and looks like it only seats about 50 people including the bar seats) she was told all other tables were taken and would have to move other guests. All the other tables at this time were empty. I asked my wife if she wanted to leave and come back in the warmer weather, she said no and I swapped seats with her. My back and feet were frozen but I was more worried about my meal being cold. We had the fried clams and calamari for appetizers, and Ribs and fried Haddock with shrimp and clams for out entrée’s The food was very good. My wife had a cup of ice cream with chocolate sauce for desert. Very pricey. Chad Finn the owner needs to fix the Window as this was a big detraction from the restaurants ambiance. The waitress was friendly, and remember your not at a fast food restaurant and may have to wait for more rolls or another drink. I may try the restaurant again in the summer time

This is a great local Haverhill restaurant. It is a nice cozy date restaurant, but it would also be good for an intimate dinner with a small group of friends. Excellent seafood.

Husband and I decided to go out on a hot New England night and chose Blue Finn because of the recommendations on Unilocal and the fact that we really wanted some delicious fish. We got the fried clams appetizer which was delicious and plentiful. I order the shrimp and scallops and husband got the tuna. Both tasted fine at the time. We even got the blueberry cheesecake for dessert. It wasn’t until I got home and 3 hours later that the food poisoning hit. Hence the 1 star review and a promise that we’ll never be back. If it’s any consolation, the food poisoning was only really bad for 2.5 hours and then I slept the rest off because I was exhausted.

First off let’s say a total rave ! I love this place. My boyfriend and I were out for a nice date. We ordered two drinks and appetizers of fried clams and oysters. These were by far the best fried clams we have had all year! Oysters very fresh but pricey a $ 3 a pop. The meals we ordered were Mahi Fish, asparagus and risotto and for myself the shrimp and lobster scampi. Both meals were served piping hot and delicious. Service was excellent. I recommend this restaurant will definitely go again. Make a reservation as the place has limited seating.

You can never go wrong with their specials! Had the sauteed shrimp tonight with spinach, tomatoes, red and green onions in a white wine sauce tossed with rotini and feta which was optional. Delicious! Shared the spinach salad with the hubby, loved the dressing which tasted like a maple syrup base. Great hot rolls! Hubby had his«regular» standby, the baked haddock with home made mashed potatoes and asparagus. He said it was one of the best baked haddock’s he has had in a long time.

This place is one of the few PHENOMENAL restaurants in downtown Haverhill. Although from the outside it is hard to see, inside is typically packed with hungry customers. If you’re looking to come in on a weekend, definitely make a reservation in advance. The décor inside is chic and modern, not something you normally find in these parts. To top it all off, the waitstaff are very friendly and inviting. Now lets get to the meat of this review — the FOOD. Honestly, their food is phenomenal. By far one of the best seafood restaurants around(and I love seafood). My favorite has to be the Panko and Coconut Crusted Tuna with a Soy Ginger dipping sauce. I’m normally not even a fan of Tuna but the food on my plate vanished in about 5 minutes flat. It’s a little deceiving from the outside, but you do not want to miss out on this one. If you’re looking for an upscale dining experience in a comfortable, trendy atmosphere — you gotta check out Blue Finn.

Loved this place and can’t wait to go back. Was taken there by a friend, and first learned we should have made a reservation. The wait wasn’t long, though, and the super nice staff even offered to take our phone number and let us walk around if we didn’t want to stand around.(Their waiting area is right in front of all the diners, so kind of awkward.) The place is super small, but a gem all the same. Ended up sitting at the bar and they let us pick from the full menu there. Tried their yellow coconut curry mussels to start and they were fabulous! Could have used some more bread because the sauce was so good, but probably better for my waistline that we didn’t. Tried the night’s special, a scallop dish with risotto that was spectacular and the portion was so big that I had enough for lunch the next day. My friend got a shrimp and scallops dish with asparagus. It was seasoned in a spicy sauce and couldn’t get enough of it. Sadly, the plate was licked clean, so no to-go for that dish. Only problems with this place is that I wouldn’t have even known it was there if we weren’t looking for it, and the seating is a bit awkward since it’s such a small place. The food more than makes up for it, though.

After visiting this place often over the last year or so, this place is still top notch. I always feel like I get a consistent dining experience. I like to go and get several appetizers, and martini or two and dessert. The dessert is always spot on. Just get the warm bread pudding and you will not be disappointed.
