I’ve been here twice with different cars and received great service both times. I think that John is excellent — I’m glad that I was able to find a mechanic that charges reasonable prices. All thanks to Unilocal,of course.

John is the best, most honest mechanic in the area. He is reasonable, thorough and quick. I would never bring my car anywhere else.

Based on reviews and being new to the area I decided to try this place out. I am a woman so going to a mechanic is always a questionable experience because you never know if they are being honest. I was hoping this would be my new neighborhood mechanic. Not quite. I brought my car in and he told me good news just loose tires so you’re all set. He mentioned the timing belt to which I said how much. Was quoted 600 – 800. I got to the shop and owner said I’m sorry but parts were a lot more than expected. My bill was 1300. I paid it because I needed my car back after a week. I know things happen in the business where worse case scenario he was off with parts estimate. I feel like I should have been called and told estimate was way off and if I still wanted the job done. I spoke with another mechanic who thinks I should take to small claims court but I’m not looking for that. I don’t have the time and that taught me a valuable lesson. Always get a written estimate unless I trust the mechanic. I normally don’t like writing bad reviews because owning a business can be a struggle but figured I should share my story. I was also trying to give the benefit of the doubt but the more I research the more I realize it was an unfortunate situation for me.

I purchased an (older) used car last week and within days was having some problems. I turned to Unilocal to find a local mechanic and the reviews here sent me to Stryks.
I spoke with John and dropped my car off the next morning for what I hoped would be minimal repairs. Well, turns out the car gods are not in my favor and the work needed was more than the worth of the car. John called me with a list of problems and explained it was not worth putting money into when really he could have made thousands off me over the next few months with repairs.
It is SO hard to find honest, trustworthy people these days and the amount of gratitude I have towards Stryks is beyond any words I can string together here. I will never go anywhere else after this experience and I highly recommend anyone to go here if you want an honest answer to your car problems.

We’ve been going to Stryk’s for — maybe close to 20 years? wow! John is competent, down-​to earth, and one of the most decent men we’ve ever done business with. Oh — and he’s a great mechanic, too! The folks we have sent to him over the years rave the same way.

Great guy, knows what he is talking about. Simply put, very trustworthy mechanic. Bring your vehicle to any «chain store» mechanic and see what is wrong then bring it to him, he will tell you the real deal with what needs to be replaced.
