Overall good food and a decent atmosphere. Fair prices and fantastic service. At least one gorgeous waitress, too

The last time I reviewed this place, I said that I would NOT return. Well, I have changed my tune and have since returned several times. For the past two weeks, I have been eating at Westgate primarily for their Early Bird dinners(2 – 5 pm). It’s a great deal. For $ 12.95, you get a choice of either soup or salad, the entrée, a choice of two vegetables or a side of pasta, a beverage, garlic bread, and dessert. The portions are quite ample, which I like, because I don’t walk out of there still hungry. I always order the Chicken Piccata and it’s consistently delicious. Their soups are excellent and homemade. My favorite is the New England clam chowder. The service has been tremendous and all of the waitresses are absolutely wonderful. If you’re looking for a neighborhood restaurant with good food that is a fun, homey, enjoyable place to dine, check out Westgate.

This place is old and dingy as heck! …with bland food now. They updated their menu and now the food is just awful. Not only are my favourite dishes and appetizers gone, the taste has just gone out the window as well. The only thing that remained the same was the excellent service. I won’t be returning unless I MUST have a martini on a weekday. I hope that didn’t change either…

Really disappointing. Took my 8 year old son for dinner on a Friday at 5:30pm. I ordered the Westgate Italian hoagie, he had a BLT. It took 30 minutes to get our food. His BLT looked fine, but my hoagie was pathetic. It was just a few pieces of lunch meat on a bare roll, no seasoning at all. No lettuce, tomato, onion, nothing(it bears repeating, it took 30 minutes to get a BLT and this sandwich to our table). There was a soggy 1⁄8th of a pickle on the plate. For some reason, there were also two stray spaghetti noodles on my plate under the potato chips. Our server disappeared for long periods of time, to the point where the bartender came over to take our payment so we could leave. This place used to be the go-to place for a cheap, excellent Italian hoagie. I don’t know what happened, hopefully it was an off-night. I felt especially bad, because my son wanted to go to Jim’s Steaks, but I insisted on Westgate. Won’t make that mistake again.

Solid local spot. Not much by way of décor/atmosphere, but that is part of the charm. Their portions for their entrees are quite generous as you can get a chicken parm or pasta dish that comes with soup or salad, two sides, and garlic bread for about $ 14 with the entrée being large enough to split between my wife and I. Their motz sticks were very good, home made with a good light breading that had good texture(some of the better sticks I’ve had in delco). Overall a very good option if you’re looking for a solid & casual meal that isn’t going to kill your wallet.

The Westgate has gone downhill in the past few months. The owner is trying to squeeze every last dime from the place and the customer service has taken a nosedive. It’s a shame, it used to be one of my goto places to eat.

Ehh… Food was ok, beer was cold though. Very small and quiet. Bar was empty by 9:30. Not what it used to be.

Great service and value for the money. Daily specials and happy hour prices are great. It’s a nice, clean neighborhood bar and grill that doesn’t pretend to be anything else. They have multiple TVs and will happily accommodate requests for various baseball games, etc, to be shown. We’ve always had great service and will definitely be back.

We love the Sunday special. The Chicken Parm is wonderful with enough leftover for lunch on Monday. It comes with homemade soup or salad and delicious garlic bread. Comfort food for Sunday dinner at a great price!

So I just had west gate a few days ago for the 3rd time. I gave them 3 chances and everytime the food ingot sucked. Meatball sandwich? Horrible. French fries? horrible. Pizza? Meh. Buffalo chicken? Oh you better believe that’s horrible. Their buffalo sauce sure doesn’t taste like any I’ve had before… and not In a good way. It’s more like a mix of a few flavors… BBQ sauce, smokey mesquite, and fecal matter. The one good thing I can say is the chicken parm isn’t too bad.

Went there for Happy Hour. Great deal, very reduced drink prices and half price appetizers. Happy Hour is 4 – 6 Monday thru Friday. Food was good with exception of the calamari. It was a bit rubbery. Everything else we had was very good. Very friendly staff. Will go there again.

Pretty basic spot. Kind of a hole in the wall place, but the food is solid and the beer selection is descent for the size of the bar. Chili is pretty good, burgers, cheesesteaks, fries — all solid. Nothing blows you away here but the staff is friendly and the grub is dependable. As an FYI — they have a take out section too with a pretty good carry out beer selection.

So, we stopped in for a «date night» on a Wednesday night while our daughter was at CCD. While I will try to keep the review to the food, the waitstaff will indirectly get reviewed as well. When we arrived, there were plenty of tables open and we were able to seat ourselves right away. It took a few minutes for our server to come to the table, she seemed a bit overwhelmed by the other four tables that were occupied. Eventually we placed our food and drink orders and so began the wait. This night it was Hot Roast beef(with fries) for me and a Chicken Caesar wrap for my wife. It took longer than we expected for what we ordered, but we weren’t in a hurry. When our food arrived, everything looked OK. The beef was very tender and had a good taste, but was over-salted. For my wife, rather than the Chicken Caesar wrap she ordered, they delivered a chicken cheese-steak wrap. At this point, we were short on time and she decided to give it a try rather than send it back. While she didn’t dislike her meal, it was not what she ordered and therefore didn’t enjoy it as much as she normally would have. All in all, not the worst experience. We plan to give it a second chance in the hope that we caught them on an off night. If we find this to be the case, I will update my review. One thing I did want to mention, supposedly there is a great selection of craft beers on the take-out side. I was hoping that selection would be replicated on the dine-in side, but settled for an overpriced($ 5.50 for 16oz) Sam Adams seasonal draft.

I began my first Sunday of the NFL season giving Westgate Pub a try. It’s been a long time since I’ve patronized the establishment. I went pizza, wings and mussels in red. The wings were the best of the 3 selections. Pizza was fair and the mussels left room for improvement. The big plus here is the convenient location and their beer selection. Where should I try week 2? The fun begins…

Food: 3 Décor: 2 Ambiance: 2.5 Service: 3.5 Value: 3.5 Surprisingly decent pizza, and horrible wings. I do not like the blue cheese and hot sauce pre-mixed combo. Would be a great atmosphere if they turned down the interior lights a little.

Really like the food selection. Decent Ambiance, friendly bartenders. They have a few craft beers. but need more(see Standard Tap). Yes, I know ppl like Bud Light and Miller Lite garbage. stock bottles of that crap. Wish I lived closer. this seems like a place I would come back to… far better than hitting a local chain in the area. Good spot.

The only reason this place gets two stars is because our waitress was competent. Other than that, pretty much the worst pub grub I have ever had. I think the pizza crust is frozen and the appetizer sampler I had was very over fried. A lot of it was completely inedible. I don’t think this place is good for anything other than drinking and to be honest, there are much more colorful places in Havertown to drink. Sure they might just be shot and a beer joints, but at least they have some sort of character. This place was completely bland from top to bottom. I would not return even if it was free beer and blow job night.

There is a new owner here. I believe the turnover was around July. The back story is that the new guy is the owner of the Grog in Bryn Mawr. My fellow Unilocalers and I consider the Grog a 3 ½ star place. I also hear he was part owner of The Ale House in Newtown Square but he has since divested himself of that. So I’ve been there twice since the change and here are my observations– * No changes to the physical space. * Some staff changes so regulars will see a mix of old and new faces. * Menu continues to be on a placemat with several additions. * Panini’s are new. I tried one and it was very good. * All the roles(sandwich, hoagie etc.) are now supplied by Le Bus. I tried a burger and it was solid. * Weekday lunch specials were the norm here. They appear to be gone. A mistake in my opinion and others in town agree. * The place was famous for their escarole soup. Also gone. Hmmmmmm. * Large and small pizzas were always available. The small size is gone. Another hmmmmmmm. This has always been a solid place for comfort food without breaking the bank. Several of the changes annoy me but the food is still OK and occasionally very good. I’m going to stick with three stars for now.
