satisfied. So my back/​front tire had blown tubes. Also with pretty bad bent in both the tires. The back one was the worst. Thought I would have to buy a new rim. I went to a bike shop in Santa Monica the guy told they wouldn’t be able to fix it. So I came here. great guy great personality 30 plus years experience and I left my bike that over overnight and he was able to fix it. I was very satisfied and pleased with his work.

Great customer service, good quality bikes and good prices. He takes care of his customers and makes sure you have what you need for your bike and that you return to get your bike serviced every few months. He will continue to get my business

That’s places in not a friendly riders. I just asked for air and he say buy a air pump. Plus it’s dirty and rusty 0 recommend

If music was bullsh*t Phil would be a symphony.
Brought my 10 speed for a tune up, replace handle bar foam, replace chain, and new tires.
Only a single tire to choose from. Pew.
Didn’t have what I wanted, was told «Not made», Me– I research 5 minutes and find them online.
I get home and found the following.
Foam was installed damaged.- «Manufacturer says no can happen». (So I’m lying then)
Had to return it twice for adjustments.
Front brake was binding on the wheel as it only spins ¾ around then stops — He had to adjust and did.
I bring it home for the 2^nd try.
Gears are slipping and won’t maintain any gear — nice. (its called sarcasm)
I return it a 3^rd time.
Gear issue. — «Cable was loose»
Never received a «Oh sorry about that» I only receive a «You bring it back again, you will have to pay»
Integrity and character are all but extinct in the 21^st Century
I left the shop feeling I was held in contempt
I’m 53, professional, and don’t have time to nor do I care to deal with nonsense.
Can’t say I recommend Phil’s Bike Shop.
Too bad, seemed like a decent guy

UPDATE– 8.25.15
First Ride — Gears still a slipping. Chain falls off. UNBELIEVABLE.
Had to stop multiple times riding on the beach last night just to put the chain back on and gears to work.
It’s my future I see, I’m on Amazon buying a yellow book that is titled Bike Repair for Dummies.
Well at least my tires are still on my rims… for now.
UPDATE — 8.26.15
After watching a few videos on You Tube I learned how a properly aligned derailer looks and operates.
I’ll say this– If this guy tuned up my bike and adjusted the derailers — I’ll bl*w the Pope.

Dirty? I like to call it more like nostalgic.
As for being greeted when you walk in? I wasn’t, as a matter of fact, it seemed there was no one working there. This didn’t deter me from exploring the variety of new and used bikes around the shop. I, however, wasn’t there to shop for a bike. Some car driven by complete jerk moron got to close to me and I ended up crashing my Giant Escape Bike into the side walk (got a bad scrape but I’ll be fine). I took the bike in not knowing the place and distrusting him because, well, I work in customer service so when I go any where I expect only the highest quality of service. I called out 2 times and he came out of nowhere and I told him my story. He examined it, and said it would be $ 18. I didn’t have cash so I paid with a debit and after 10 minutes later my bike was running like new again. He came out and made small conversation, mostly about other bikes and how he really loves mine. He shook my hand and said to come back again for a tune up, I asked him for his name and he said Dr. Phil and added that he has been doing this work for more than 30 years and he wanted me to be safer next time.
Why I gave him 5 Stars? I came in for a problem, he solved it, not to mention I was serenaded by KUSC as I waited. Also because he wasn’t pushy in selling me any other stuff to me. Dr. Phil seems like a genuine guy with the experience, if you don’t believe me, look for the Schwinn Bicycle Company awards above the register, some date back to the 70’s!

Very bad service. Brought in a wheel with a broken spoke, he said he could fix it, came back an hour later and he could not fix it??? And still had the nerve to still charge us. A few weeks prior had issues with gears shifting, he worked on it then when I drove off it was still shifting bad. He Does Not know how to work on any current mountain bikes. Don’t waste your time or money at his shop.

Phil was great i walked in and the place looked so welcome, no pressure at all, they have a good selection of bikes, classics, beach crusiers, and fixies, and they were really good styles. i reccommend this place

Not so friendly at all, and a bit pricie, first time there I thought he was having a rough day by the way he was attending me, so i let it slide. The second time i just figured thats how he treats most of his customers.
I will just say, he lost a customer.

Guy was nice enough. Told me exactly what my bikes issues were, billed me and that was that. Not snotty at all. Ill update tye review when I get the finished product

So I originally came in because my brake kept hitting my wheel. Seems all this guy had to do was tune the rim or just replace it. He got me for a tune up which was somewhere over 60 bucks if I remember correctly. Tire still hit brakes and seat was readjusted for whatever reason. I didn’t go back and complain because I felt kinda bad for the guy. Seems like there is 0 business here and the crappy service I received is prob a good indicator as to why. Should’ve gone w my gut but was too lazy to drive out to VB.

I’m basing this review on selection and knowledge of staff. I went in to discuss my needs and options of bikes. They have maybe 10 new bikes total and 2 very average brands to select from.
The staff member couldn’t compare his in stock brands to others I have been considering. He also did not know the materials on his bikes (couldn’t tell me if the bike was aluminum or Carbon

Great service from a local shop. I had some weird dérailleur part break, he didn’t have it in stock but said he would find it and have it for me the next day. He did everything he said he would do as promised and on time all for under $ 20. I am not hardcore into bikes but I have a mountain and a road bike I have come here periodically over the years, good shop good honest service.

They seem to have very expensive bikes. It was a man and a woman that seemed to run the store. It was so many people waiting and no one at front counter to assist waiting customers.. I stepped to the side and I seen the lady in the back standing and watching the man work on a bike. She could have been up in the front assisting waiting customer. So I asked from where I was standing if they had any gel bicycle seats. He said yes! their $ 29.00. He handed the seat to me. So my friend said asked about. The others and he gave me another seat that was $ 49.00. I am not sure why he gave me the cheaper one first I hope it wasn’t because he thought I couldn’t afford it. Well over all things in the bike shop seemed old had dust on them and very overpriced.

The owner is very cool and he had a lots of experience for repair

Phil did me a giant favor by shipping my bike back to Fremont for me at the end of my Fremont to LA bike trip. I know his core business is not disassembling and shipping bikes, but he took great care in packing my bike up and went out of his way to help me. I would definitely recommend Phil’s Bicycle Shop.

I took my bike here a week or so ago and was told the problem was my freewheel then pulled the part out of a glass case and said it would be 29.99. I asked him how much total if he installed it (expecting to hear an insane price for labor) and did a quick calculation (im guessing for taxes) and said 43.00 and can have it for me in an hour. I said do it and I would be back.
When I returned I was told that it wasn’t my freewheel but my rim and had to be replaced and had already done so. He had a used rim identical to mine (actually it was in better shape than mine) and only charged me a few bucks more than the original quoted price. He could have charged me for the freewheel as well so I appreciate that he said it wasn’t needed after all.
I am big on service and honesty and this place has both! I will be back!

I brought my TreK Police bike in here a couple of times. The guy that runs the join is pretty experienced when it comes to bikes. I think his bikes for sale are over priced, but can u blame him? He has a classic store, in the Middle of Hawthorne, that has been there before I was born, and is set in his ways. I always enjoy helping out a local business. Keeps the heartbeat of the city flowing with honest money.

Great prices, decent bicycle selections, and the owner was really friendly.
I found a 10% coupon on craigslist the other day and now my cousin is one happy rider* I don’t see many old school bicycle shop like this place around my neighborhood anymore. Will be back*

I came in to buy a couple of beach cruisers to take around Manhattan. When I got there, there was a nice man (I’m assuming it was the owner) and one guy working in the back. It was pretty quiet and I didn’t ever feel like I was being sold something I didn’t want. I went to another place the day before just to look and was pushed so hard to buy a bike with every bell and whistle that coming here was pretty refreshing. I just asked a few questions, got straightforward answers, and most importantly zero pressure. So, I went ahead and bought the beach cruisers and also got a nice discount.

I came here for a quick tune up and it was the cheapest price I have seen around the South Bay. The store is old but they have been in business for quite some time. They carry brand name bikes such as KHS and used bikes as well. Come here if you are looking for a bargain.
