Shortway’s Barn

Went with hubby yesterday for dinner. Hubby had mushrooms for appetizer and I had ½.nachos. Mushrooms were ok. Nachos were good. We both ordered sizzling steak over toast with what was supposed to be garlic butter. No seasoning, not even salt And the garlic was missing! Toast was burnt to the point of being charred black! Will pass on having dinner there in the future. So sad. Used to be great.

Not to thrilled about this place.
Pros:
Got a table right away on a Friday night.
The wait for food wasn’t bad.
Prices were cheap and menu was decently extensive.
Cons:
Service was mediocre, waitress wasn’t very attentive and didn’t smile once.
We are friendly people with easy orders who try to make it easy. We I won’t be back, but not a bad place for quick, cheap, decent tasting food.

Awesome dive bar! I’m a young guy and I enjoy going to Hoboken and morristown for the young crowd, but at the end of the day, all I want is to go to Shortways for a beer with some nice people. You wouldn’t expect most dive bars to have good food, but their wings and burgers here are VERY good. Highly recommended. Their beers are cheap and their bartenders are so nice.
Enjoy this place! It’s rare to find a bar that has that nice small town feel in New Jersey; this is the only place that has that feeling!

Great bar and restaurant. Enjoyed the live music and friendly bartenders. The Staci Wrap is amazing it’s not on the menu but really should be! Angry orchards and fire ball is my drink in this amazing fall weather.

i enjoy going there. the food is for regular people. if you are looking for fancified food (hummus.guinoa.mixed salad
.gluten free) this really isnt the place for you!! i love their sliced sizzling steak drowning in butter and the iceberg lettuce salad. mike the bartender on friday nights is a nice guy. if harry shortway jr is there he always makes it a point to say hello and talk to people

They have the nicest staff, great food and good prices! I loved the nachos, and the BLT was good too. It’s a really nice atmosphere that makes you feel at home. The menu is pretty small but it’s great for a drink and a quick bite to eat.

They make THE BEST French Onion Soup. I have it everywhere I go but theirs is THE BEST! My favorite item on the menu is the Shorty’s Sizzling Steak with the garlic butter… OMG…soooo yummy!
I could do without the live music, but a good local hangout overall!

Food is average. And don’t waste your time going there with a coupon. Before the meal, you have to tell them you have a coupon. As a result of that, the specials are charged at the regular price, and the other items from the menu are adjusted upward. Went with a $ 25.00 coupon, and ended up getting a benefit of $ 4.00. Will never go there again!

Whenever I go to Shortway’s I wonder why I have waited so long to return. I usually sit at the bar. The bar is quite large. The bartenders are extremely nice, friendly and easy to talk to. The clientelle is also very friendly and I often find myself engaged in good conversations with people I have never met before. They have a large beer selection as well as just about any liquor you could want. The menu is standard American fare. I have had the fried chicked several times and I have never been disappointed. Last time, I had pepper steak. The steak was very tender and cooked the way I ordered it. The sauce was tasty as well. If you are looking for a good local place that will make you feel welcome, this is the place.

Another good local place to meet friends, listen to some music and enjoy some really decent bar-​type food. People are nice and we find the drinks to be very generous. If you’re not into casual and local, then move along.

After months of talking about it my wife and I finally made it to Shorty’s. Not only did it meet my expectations… it also quieted the fears I had about visiting a «sex» club. This place is awesome! The people I met were completely normal, fun, outgoing couples just like me and my wife. They were so normal it was like being at a friends wedding! We laughed and drank together, complained about the DJ then went and messed around in a playroom… how cool is that! Hands down the best thing about this club is not the funky layout, the comfy beds, or the cool people, its the fact that is exsists! Thanks to Chris and Sarah for getting it right… this place rocks! I think i should note… the bathrooms are well stocked and still pretty clean well into the night, there are huge buckets of condoms, clean towels and wipes, mini toothbrushes and mouthwash, the bar had soda and juice as well as cups and ice — all included in the entrance fee which I might add is very nicely priced. The patio is cozy and the dancefloor is just the right size for the crowd. The DJ wasn’t that great when we went but still threw in a couple of hot mixes. We are definately going back and bringing friends.

Sometimes you want a really non assuming place to grab a burger and kick back a few bears. Shortway’s is the perfect solution. The place has been at its current location for 2 to 3 generations. Although the décor is anything but fancy their is a full bar, beer on tap both domestic and imported and the food is way above average for the area. Nothing fancy just a place where you dont have to worry how your dressed. There is a large bar section with a separate dining area. I have tried this on Sunday or Saturday for lunch and it has a whole other atmosphere whenever a large game is on the large flat screens. On certain nights there are live bands and I have heard both good and bad groups. Come for the beer, stay for the food and good service.

Liked the music and atmosphere. Hated the booze.
The atmosphere is welcoming, with no specific age range. You’ll find 20 year olds and 70 year olds.
Their Guinness is watered down and tastes horrible. The bartenders don’t even know the proper way to pour a pint. Their mixed drinks have a ton of soda and barely any alcohol. The drink prices are decent but I’d rather pay a buck more for better quality.
The band Shattered Limbs was playing the nite I went to Shortways. Despite their name, they’re actually a lively lil group, playing everything from Jimmy Eat World to AC/​DC. Everyone seemed to enjoy them, as they were the only positive point of the evening.
