The Very Thing

Was thrifting for some vintage kids clothes today and found this one on Unilocal,so stopped by here with my 2 year old. Odd experience. Like everyone else said this shop is SO cramped and I felt like I was in some sort of maze wandering around looking for clothing. It was tiny room after tiny room stuffed FULL of stuff, if one other person was in the room there wasn’t even enough space for the both of us to be there. It was hard getting around in general just carrying my daughter on my hip.
Nobody ever acknowledged me or asked if I needed any help, and it was difficult to tell who worked here and who didn’t as everyone was just kind of pilfering around. I mistakenly asked two people if they worked there before someone finally came back to the register. Whoever said they tend to ignore the younger shoppers seems totally spot on.
For anyone who is wondering– they do not sell clothes here just furniture and antiques, but they do sell clothes next door (I think just women’s and kid’s).

I live close to this shop and after a year of living in my home I decided to check it out. Well now its part of my every weekend errands. I love all the ladies who work here they are all super friendly. The make you feel like family. Every-​time I stop at the shop there are tons of new things to look at. Thumbs up for The Very Thing!

You can find some really great finds here-​cut crystal, pewter, wicker furniture, ect. I have also consigned a number of items and most have sold, but lately they are SO crowded that smaller items seems to get lost.
My only complaint are the majority of the ladies who work here. For the most part they are unhelpful, especially to the younger shoppers. I have a completely different experience shopping here when I am with my mother. When I’m alone, I’m spoken to like a child and openly glared at by the one youngish looking woman who always has a pissy look on her face. The older woman with the bow/​headband thing is nice enough, but I get the feeling its that fake niceness you’ll get at Bloomies or Saks. I really want to update this when I get the name of the younger gal, maybe mgmt will read this and ask her to work on her customer service skills. There is one older lady with glasses and a slight frame who is very nice, so thank you and hats off to her to staying positive/​nice in an unpleasant environment!

I consigned there and had something go missing before day 30(when it becomes theirs). I asked them what happened to it and they said it looks like they donated it early. I also had a nice wood watch case consigned there and they liked to display anything/​everything with metal feet on top of it. I got it back after day 30 and it was ruined. The store is always HOT inside so don’t plan on dressing warm when you enter. Most rooms are so packed with things it makes it hard for more than one person to be in the room at a time. On a positive note you can get a good deal if you are willing to dig around in the rooms. People who consign there name their prices so it is possible to find something very cheap or priced at retail prices.

My first attempt at selling a couple of items ever at a consignment shop was not successful. I had two items I placed in their shop — an antique clock and a large pewter dragon figurine.
Neither of them sold over the course of one month — so I picked the items up before the items became the property of the consignment shop.
The folks that run the place are very nice. The shop is very cramped. There is a lot of stuff to peruse through if you are a shopper.

This consignment store is very cramped as it has a number of tiny rooms full of stuff. I much prefer some of the charity thrift shops in Northern Virginia. You may luck out and find something you like here. I did not find anything.

The best of the best when it comes to consignment shops. Not only do I consign, I buy stuff too. The place is always well kept and clean. It’s not so crowded that you feel the walls closing in on you like some other stores. Prices vary according to whomever consigns so look around and you will find some fantastic deals. Today I bout the first season of Magnum P.I. on DVD for only 5.00. Time to relax on the couch and dream of good memories of old.

I have been in here a couple of times and only bought things once. They have done a great job in here or keeping it stocked without making it feel junky at the same time. The prices are hit and miss so it’s fun to see what you can find on any given day.

Great consignment store! There is A LOT of merchandise to look through, in multiple rooms of this store. Every time I’m there there’s just lines of people wanting to consign and I don’t want to leave because I always feel like I’m going to miss something :)
The owner is extremely friendly, and has each room set up by a type of theme, which really helps out the buyer. Even though there’s a lot to see, I don’t feel that this place is cluttered at all to the point that you get frustrated. They have it set up so everything can be seen clearly and every time I’m there all the workers are always arranging stuff all over the place. The merchandise here moves fast. For instance, if they post a picture of an item on Facebook, and you show up to the store an hour later, don’t be surprised that it’s already gone. I have never left this store without a bag full of items and I try to stop by here at least 2 times a week.

Finally stopped by The Very Thing on Black Friday after hearing and reading good reviews. I was pleasantly surprised to find it lives up to its reputation. I found a beautiful leather desk chair in burgundy leather with nailhead trim for $ 99. I found other smaller items for presents. The store was very busy, but the employees maintained very pleasant demeanors. I needed help loading the chair into my SUV… they were too busy to help… but a very kind customer came to my aid. All in all, a great place — I’ll return!

This store is awesome. Amazing finds and very nice staff. I had mistakenly brought my three year old and every employee was super nice to her. I’m just glad she didn’t break anything! I bought a beautiful shabby chic lamp and will definitely be going back for other finds. It’s definitely an eclectic mix of everything. Love it!

Love this spot!!! Every time I drop in it’s like going into a new store. There are so many neat treasures here. Driving by it looks like a small store, but it’s actually quite large. Room after room of neat finds inside. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable.

Stumbled across this place while on a country drive, searching for mom and pop coffee shops.
Found a burnt sienna orange couch that I fell in love with instantly. Checked the manufacturer’s website once I got home and found that the same style couch was selling new for $ 995; TVT was selling it for $ 300. It was three years old and had been on the floor for about a week.
Called the store up, spoke to a friendly woman who took my credit card information and sold it to me right over the phone. The ladies updated me when they pulled it from the floor and had it ready for pick up.
A woman helped us load it into our U-​Haul van and that was that.
Very pleasant people, easy to get to and lots of interesting things in every room! Browse for an hour or so.

Bought the most amazing piece of furniture here today. I told the lady I felt like I was robbing her because it was so affordable! Cute cute store, will definitely be stopping by to see what their new findings are on a regular basis!

Wow — amazing place!
We read an article about this store in the Manassas Journal Messenger today, so we dropped in to see if they had anything interesting to buy. This place is chock full of great bargains! Really good furniture is just the beginning. I was truly surprised to find that not only did they have good furniture, but it was all priced absolutely affordably. In addition, they have all kinds of other things for the home — everything from wall hangings to coffee makers to decorative pillows to dishes to knick knacks. You wander from room to room and it seems to never end, just bargain after bargain — it’s amazing.
I bought an elephant pillow for our elephant-​themed guest room. My husband found what looked like an ancient knife in a strange scabbard and he loved it, so we bought that as well. When they rang it up, the description came up as Cannibal Knife. The owner told us the person who brought it in for consignment had lived in Africa and gotten the knife from real cannibals — no idea if that is true or not, but it’s a great story. I would love to talk to that guy and get more of the story, we’ll ask next time we go in if they can find out more.
The upshot is — they literally have all kinds of stuff, the prices are fantastic, and if you can’t find something there you want to buy, there is probably something wrong with you.
