Loved everything about this place! Atmosphere, food quality and selection and beer! We shared the 8pack sampler and had many faves. Family of four had a variety of foods and loved everything – beer cheese soup, Cobb salad, breuben sandwich. Homemade kettle chips were equally awesome. A great stop after a long day’s drive and it lived up to our high expectations!

My husband and I stopped here while driving on a cross country trip. It was definitely a pleasant surprise! It’s a tiny little town so we weren’t really expecting much. However, it seems very clean and is very modern. The food and beer were awesome. Service was fast and friendly. They had live entertainment which wasn’t bad. We stopped in at about 830 on a Thursday night and the place is pretty full. It’s definitely been added to our list of places to stop by when we’re driving on I-70!

Really great restaurant! We are traveling around the US on a road trip and always look for local favorites. Gella’s turned out to be everything the reviews said. The Breben sandwich was fantastic with perfectly cooked corned beef and the lemon ale was super great… especially for someone who is not a huge fan of beer. The service is friendly and helpful. I definitely would come back!

Awesome atmosphere! BEST pale ale and raspberry wheat we’ve ever had. And we’re from Colorado! Waiting on our food as we salivate over the tables next to us.

Hubs and I stopped en route to Colorado. Thought we’d skip the fast food counter that is usually the highlight of a long road trip. The ambiance is great: hip without being pretentious. Very relaxed. Our server was very good — Taylor. We picked this place because of the Brewben. Hubs is a bit of a Reuben connoisseur and he’s always on the lookout for a good one. This one wasn’t terrible but didn’t wow. It was more Swiss and sauerkraut than meat. His sweet potato fries were very good. Disappointed they didn’t have hot sauce available on request(he was given wing sauce). I ordered the BLT and onion rings. Mine was like my husbands: decent, but didn’t wow. The bread was interesting — it wasn’t really toasted and I like toasted bread for my BLTs. And the bacon was not hot. I prefer a hot BLT where the bacon is freshly cooked. Together with the not-really-toasted bread, it was a cold sandwich when I was expecting a hot one. I think the onion rings could have been great but I think the oil was old. They weren’t especially hot, either. Given how quickly our food came after we ordered, I felt like lunch was assembled from already cooked ingredients, not prepared for us. In fairness, they were preparing for a big street block party today and so the kitchen was may not have been its normal self. We’d be willing to give it another try if we lived locally — and may stop back in on our way back to St Louis — we would just order something different. Hubs really wanted to try their beer since they brew it there, but he’s driving and there’s 320 more miles to go. The iced tea was excellent(which, let me tell you I learned in Hartford CT is not always something you can count on!

My girlfriend and I were passing through en route to OKC from Boulder and I have to say that this was the highlight of that long stretch. If I lived anywhere close I would be a regular fan, enjoying the good food and many tastings of the surprisingly good beer. We ordered a cheese dip as the appetizer, a club sandwich, and a shrimp Po’Boy. The appetizer was a perfect start with a couple of pints of their IPA and Golden Ale which hit the spot after the long drive. Both of our sandwiches were very good, and I would personally recommend the Po’Boy. We ended with a beer tasting of 4 beers we hadn’t tried yet. I’m a fan of oatmeal stouts, and theirs was very good and reminded me of Firestone’s Velvet Merlin. They also had a lemon ale that was something I could see myself drinking on hot days for an occasional change. The taste was true to the name and it was much better than any of the Mike’s Hard Lemonade I ever tried. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Overall, we were very pleased to have taken the time to stop here for a very pleasant lunch.

I stopped by for a solo dinner. I had the sampler which was ‘da bomb’, 8 beer samplers for $ 6.50, I thoroughly enjoyed this as an appetizer. I also enjoyed the Brewben sandwich which was much lighter then a normal reuben sandwich because of the bread they use, except i substituted the chips for the green bean potato and dumpling soup. Everything was great the ambiance is sweet. The service was EXCELLENT my server was Jade she was very sincere, helpful with the menu and always very pleasant a Fantastic job!

Stopped here for lunch with my husband on the way to Colorado. We had an amazing delicious quick lunch in a very hip industrial bar/restaurant! Better then fast food! I ordered a Cobb salad and Husband ordered a sandwich. We ordered a sampler of beer which was a lot of beer for 6.50!- we shared. We we’re there a total of about 35min, which was great to keep us on schedule. But if we were not on a schedule we could of stayed longer enjoying the cool environment and beer. Very cool place in Hays, Kansas! Great food and great beer!

We stopped here for lunch on our way home from Denver. Clean, yummy, great service and a really neat place! Portion size was good, not too much, but we’re full and salad was really fresh. So happy we stopped, if we find ourselves out this way again, we’ll eat here again.

I have hated driving through Kansas for over a decade and then I discovered Hayes’ Lb brewing and the brews and food are awesome! Wait staff was friendly and honest about preferences. Get the pretzel! I don’t hate Kansas any more!

the kettle chips were insane. AND they sent us with some extra on the way out. mushroom patty is killer great stop off if you’re a traveling veg the clientele was a little weird to us, there were some old guys sitting next to our table and staring us down. It seemed like they either(1) hate gay people or(2) hate weirdos from out of town. IDK what their deal was, but it made the ambience a little less than positive.

1st time ever in this town or place. Atmosphere, food and the beer were really good. Didn’t know what to expect in Hays, KS, was pleasantly surprised. Cool place would recommend it, just be advised that the entire staff minus the hostess) walk around looking so pissed off that it’s borderline uncomfortable. Our waitress was the rudest, inattentive tool I could imagine. She not only ignored us for the 1st5 minutes we sat there, when she did show up and we tried to order she got all pissed off that we didn’t listen to her whole dissertation about the beers. We had plenty of time to make up our own minds. The place was really good for beer and food and a cool atmosphere like I said, but I couldn’t imagine a worse waitress or more miserable people working at a place making new customers feel so unwelcome. Won’t be stopping here again

I had a delightful time at Gella’s one evening just me, myself and I. I elected to sit at the bar. The service was a bit slow, but I eventually ended up getting a delicious raspberry beer, some calamari and a small Cobb salad. It was all great. No complaints here. Here’s a pro tip, though, should you decide to order a salad, get a small. It was enormous and will be more than enough. Should I find myself in Hays again soon, I have no qualms with going back. That beer was enough for me to return.

Small towns in Kansas usually get a bad rap, but this place should help change that for Hays! German country… micro brewery… fresh baked bread… what more could you ask for? Brewben: phenomenal. Fresh baked bread using their own beer. Thick slices of corned beef, melted cheese and a hearty amount of perfectly pickled sauerkraut Grebble: hot, thick, fluffy«donuts» served with the most deliciously tangy homemade pesto. Turkey Club: stacked high with thick sliced turkey, perfectly crisp bacon, lettuce and tomato. Kids meals are served in a cool race car shaped box. They brew their own root beer and cream soda in addition to their beers! This place is completely deceiving from the outside. It’s beautiful inside, clean and service was top notch. If you’re in Hays or even just stopping through, definitely stop by for a bite or take a growler to go!

My husband and I stopped here while driving through Kansas and were so glad that we did! The beer sampler is fantastic, 84oz beers for $ 6.50 when a normal 16oz pint is $ 6! The food is great too, we got the Reuben and the biterwast(sp? It’s the beef stuffed dough smothered in cheese sauce). We also finished up with a root beer float! If we weren’t so full we’d do it all over again!

What an unexpected treasure! We came to Gella’s because there is nothing between Tulsa and Denver except Gella’s, and there were some fantastic reviews on Unilocal. Here’s what we got during this little unplanned stop: — Best Small Brewpub 2013(GABF) — TWO gold medal stouts from Lb Brewing — The best veggie burger I’ve *ever* had(and I have had a lottttt of veggie burgers) — An adorable«SCIENCE» /brewery t-shirt( ) Not sure when I’ll be back in Hays, KS, but if I’m ever in the area, I’ll definitely be back. Don’t miss it!!!

Easily the best place to eat in Hays. You won’t find any dining of this quality anywhere else in or near Hays, KS. I love the atmosphere with the exposed brick walls, sliding barn doors and wood floors. They have a good beer selection, as one would expect from a brewery. The cheddar ale soup is spectacular and I get it with every meal I eat here. I have never had a bad experience at Gella’s. Definitely a «must visit» place if you are in Western Kansas.

Great Food to match up with a great Handcrafted beer brewing Co. LB Handcrafted Brewing Co. We’re having a house Brew Sampler, 6 house + 2 seasonal brews We had a Vegetarian Burger and substituted sweet potato fries for the chips. Lots of food for a reasonable price. Check out their express lunch menu 11 am to 2pm. We were to late today. They have daily food specials so be sure to check them out. Tried the Lemon Ale and really liked it. Tastes like real lemon so I was happy. Try their RootBeer and cream soda, they are both handcrafted on site and as good as any I’ve had.

Great atmosphere — in fact, better than great, considering Hays doesn’t appear to have a whole bunch other than strip malls and chain businesses — but beyond the atmosphere, there isn’t much to the place. The staff was certainly friendly, but the service was slow, slow, slow, and the food — one it finally came around — was certainly not worth waiting for. We should have simply spent more time reading the menu, as they obviously took a lot of time writing it. One item as an example: The«amber queso»: molten blend of cheeses, seasoned ground beef, with Lb. Brewing Co.‘s Amber Ale, onions and diced tomatoes served with unlimited homemade corn chips. Yeah, it was pretty much a glop of cheese, perhaps some beef, onions, tomatoes and served with some chips that tasted like they came from a bag. The good news? You could get as many as you like. To their credit, some of the items served on other tables did look better, but we didn’t order those.

Das Essen ist das Fenster zu meiner Seele! So picture a nice, hot summer day in the Sunflower State. The temp is registering at a toasty 105 as we cruise down the interstate looking for adventure. My toes are keeping the beat to The Gourds playing on the stereo as I’m reading a little Truman Capote about the«out there» murders from Holcomb in 1959(titilating literature to a new genre, although I’m not sure about the harbinger of modern evolution vis-a-vis the Jerry Springer show). Anyway, as we fly low along the flat fields, we were struck with a sudden, gnawing feeling… damn, it’s 267 miles to Kansas City and we haven’t eaten since Colorado! A nice cold adult beverage sounds kinda good too… but a German restaurant in the middle of Kansas? Umm… Cue lights and angelic music from generous fellow Unilocalers, whose delightful reviews searching«restaurants» and«BFE Kansas» have turned up a little gem in the middle of(relatively) nowhere. Hello there, Hays, Kansas! Aren’t you a charming little town with your live buffalo in the city park and awesome NPS living history interpreters at the Ft. Hays National Monument? Thank you for sharing your history and friendly community, especially Gella’s – located conveniently off main street in your charming 1950’s downtown joie de vivre! As we pulled up to the restaurant – great décor, exposed brick from a century prior and a lovely smell of sunflowers and sunshine at the entrance – we knew we had struck a little pocket of local gold. The microbrew vestiges were enhanced by a mellow feel that featured barley and hops happiness mixed with clean lines and attractive ambiance. The daily beer menu rotates with the season, but this year’s «summer fling» and heffe were perfect for a hot summer day. We walked in at an odd hour in the afternoon, but the bar menu was perfect for a light snack to fuel travels down the road. I had the spring rolls – fresh, light, perfect mix of cilantro – and the hottie had the signature schnitzelwich complete with sweet potato fries. Awesomeness in an affordably priced package! The only drawback was that the service was a little off, but I think that may be a mid-western summer thing. When we came in there were three employees chit-chatting at the bar and it took them about 10 minutes to acknowledge our presence. No big deal if you are on a road-tripping itenerary… and overhearing their conversation about the latest town sex scandal(involving someone at the local university apparently) was rather amusing. Things move slower here in the middle… just enjoy the ride. Will return in a heartbeat. Definitely worth forgoing anything in Wichita or Salina for the privilege. Es schmeckt gut!
