George’s Gems

Wow!!! What a awesome store. I have been wanting to get to George’s Gems for awhile after hearing about his work from several different people. His gems are so finely polished and give off the most brilliant shine. I did not have enough time to see all his jewelry pieces and will be back to make some purchases. Prices seemed very reasonable. Would definitely recommend anyone looking for everyday jewelry to that very special gift to visit this place. Don’t think you will be disappointed.
George also has a whole area devoted to the person that likes to make their own jewelry, You will find everything from diamond bits, cabochon templates, rock tumblers and many types of good jewelers tools !!! George even had a optivisor there.
Myself being a starting silversmith and rock hounder can’t wait to go back! I have found it difficult to find a store with the more serious tools of the trade readily available. It’s really great to see this type of establishment still going strong and hope others will support this wonderful store.

I hate giving little local businesses bad reviews — especially when other people have said such wonderful things about the place. I’ve only been here once, but unfortunately I most likely won’t return.
I recently got into jewelry-​making, so I was looking up some jewelry supplies stores near my home that I could go to that weren’t Jo-Ann’s or Michaels. George’s Gems popped up and its reviews made it seem like a wonderful place. So I looked it up on Google Maps and away I went. I nearly drove right by the place while I was trying to look for the shop sign, but managed to JUST swing into its parking lot.
Walking into the store, I felt instantly as if I stepped into an old library. That’s not a bad thing, mind you. It’s almost nostalgic feeling. It was musty and dark in that comforting and inviting way (if that makes any sense at all).
An older gentleman (who I can only assume was George) was helping another customer with a repair of some sort, so I figured I would browse for the time being and get myself situated with the store. Let me say right now that this store is intimidating to the amateur craftsperson. I had no idea where to start looking nor was I aware of how the jewelry making supplies were sold. So I wandered through the store twice, peering at all the pre-​made jewelry (which are absolutely gorgeous, by the way) and what jewelry making supplies I could see while feeling like I was in way over my head.
Finally, I drifted over to hover near George and his customer. I adopted the appropriately hopefully expectant «help me, I’m a confused customer» look and waited. George glanced at me a couple of times, but did not acknowledge me otherwise and spoke only to the customer whose repair he was taking care of. I waited a good 5 minutes, inching ever so nervously closer — but nothing.
After feeling suitably embarrassed and ignored, I walked out of the store. I wish I had gotten a better experience. With the way I was treated and the fact that I felt so completely overwhelmed by the store itself, I can say with certainty that, unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

Yesterday we visited George’s Gem’s. First time for me but my husband has been buying jewely making supplies from George’s since the 70’s. We were not disappointed. George and his wife have a very nice store, they have anything and everything you need to make your own Jewelry, repair your jewelry and they even have some nice ready made pieces for sale. I was able to buy some wires to repair some old earrings I wore in the 70’s and I walked away with a beautiful set of green tourmaline earrings that they had for sale. If you are into Jewelry at all give George’s Gems a visit, you won’t be sorry. As well there aren’t too many places left like this place where they have the knowledge and experience to know what you need and actually have it.

I purchased my Mother a necklace and matching earings from George’s Gems. She absolutely loved them. The earings were hanging Black Diamonds in a Gold setting. Hanging earings usally bother my Mom’s ears but these do not; they are light and fit perfectly.
He had so many ready-​made items that I had a hard time making my selection. There were at least 5 things that I really wanted, for my Mom as well as for myself!
I agree George and his wife are the sweetest people. They were chatty, knowledgeable and not at all pushy with sales. I look foward to going back and treating myself to something special.

I do a lot of work with sterling silver and gold-​filled wire, with and without gems. George’s has a fantastic selection of supplies for making jewelry as well as a tremendous variety of ready-​made jewelry from earrings, pendants, bracelets, broaches, rings, and you name it –at reasonable prices.
He also has one of the best stocks of tools for jewelry making I’ve seen anywhere, most of it top quality, but he does maintain a stock of some lesser-​priced tools for the beginner.
George and his wife are very friendly and will bend over backwards to help you get exactly what you need or want. George is also a very accomplished jewelry maker and will be very happy to give the tyro advice on the best and easiest way to do something.
I highly recommend this establishment as a source of supply for the biginner through the experienced jewelry maker.
