This place is close and we’ve come a few times. It looks like they’ve recently redone the place… new equipment, and new paint. The young nice couple was running the shop today. They are great. We have had the displeasure of going when the older mean couple were working… they were curt and stingy. I dont know if the younger couple bought them out or what but it says grand opening outside. We always get the cod in english batter. Fish is always great. Fries cooked well. Will definitely keep coming since we don’t live close enough to Londons on hesperian.

My son went to get some food and he is told they do not accept credit cards. He comes back all the way to the house for cash and goes all the way back again. When he orders salmon they are out. Orders shrimp they dont have any orders regular fish and they are out too. Why wasn’t he told the first time he was there they were out on eveyrhing. I thoight that was weird and called to place an order on shrimps and they had some. Liars, lazzy nasty place.

I can’t believe that after living in the east bay for 8 years, that I have yet to find a good fish and chips place. Jay’s was ok but, nothing great. The condiments(cocktail sauce) was a ridiculicely small portion. I might give it another try when I’m in the area.

The only place in the bay to calm my cornmeal breaded fish cravings. Do yourself a favor, don’t order anything but sole fish and chips in cornmeal batter, English batter is not the business. Ask for the special hot sauce!!!

Worst fish and chips i’ve ever eaten! more batter than fish. Ordered a 7 piece fish and chips and they gave me a small container of malt vinegar and tartar sauce(ABOUT2TABLESPOONS) and were going to charge me for any additional sauces! Drive a few extra miles for something better. Not worth the money!!!

Now I was excited to come here. My boyfriend and I ordered oysters, cod, and prawns. There was some sort of bug in my rice, and my English battered cod had already began its journey to soggy town upon delivery. The waitress was warm and seemed to know a few regulars who came in. Three flies were hanging out with us. I love eating some really crappy things all over the world but this is something I can’t do. This place was dirty beyond belief. The only thing I enjoyed was my French fries that were super crispy and great for dipping into tartar sauce since they tasted like they were fried in old fish oil. I have never just left seafood on a plate unfinished like that. Hayward has like three fish and chip shops. Go somewhere else.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars! As everyone else stated the service here is horrible! So bad we didn’t even eat here. My wife and I decided to come here for no meat Friday. they ran out of shrimp and on top of that the man was very rude. We wanted drinks with our order and he went into a panic. I said we’ll have a water and a can of Guava juice, to which he barked at me to go look in the fridge. And I repeated exactly what I said then he punched it in angerly. Then on top of that their credit card machine wasn’t working. Again horrlbe service avoid at all cost, they need new management.

This review is solely based on the service. My husband and I left even before getting the food because their credit machine wasn’t working and the older Asian man who took our order was giving us an attitude. We told him what we wanted and what drinks we wanted to get and he yelled at us because he didn’t know what juice we were talking about. Uhm, the damn only type of juice you have in your cooler that’s more than 5 feet away and off to the side. Anyway, because of his attitude I’m glad the machine wasn’t working and we left. We ended up at Union Fish and Chips in San Lorenzo off of Washington Ave. Definitely a lot more better service than this place.

Good food, rude service. The English battered fish was well prepared not too greasy and not overly thick batter. The teriyaki shrimp plate was also nice and would not be out of place at a more expensive restaurant. However, There are 2 signs saying they can refuse service to anyone, extra sauce costs $ 1, and the drink machine is broken, cans only.

We have been eating here for a long time and we live the food. However, this will be our last time. As usual we ordered fish and chips, but when it came we got a truly meager portion of chips. When we complained the owner was very rude. He told us that the fries should have cost us $ 2.99 extra(the price for a side order.)

I can believe most of it comes from cultural differences. But this guy doesn’t seem happy to have any business. I went in there and asked for the calamari(on the menu). He says«no». He doesn’t explain that they’re out or anything. Just no. That’s the second time that’s happened so I’m guessing they just don’t carry it anymore. But no is not an acceptable response. The entire time I’m there he either ignores me or gives me short mildly angry responses. The fish and chips are alright. But not good enough to make up for the attitude. Not going again.

Good food, selection of fish & good prices. On the way home so great location! We return! Deep fried zucchini could be a lot better… I will not order again. Deep fried mushrooms are really good.

GOODFISH&CHIPSFORWHENTHATCRAVINGHITSYOU. The chips are bigass steak fries, which you can hardly find anywhere anymore. The fish is fairly large pieces, and fresh, not greasy & with good flavor. Prices definitely reasonable($ 17.99 for 9 pieces of fish and fries — why did I buy so much? My eyes were bigger than my stomach!). Downsides? Restaurant itself is a tacky, depressing hole in the wall. And the people who run it(a middle-aged Asian couple) are cold, frowning robots who don’t speak English, or at least pretend not to. But these are small complaints, particularly if you take your food to go, as I always do.

We wanted fish and chips and got just that. I thought the owners/cooks/servers were polite and helpful. The place was perfectly clean. There was no checking if the meal was good midway, but that is fine with me. They understood our order, which we split. They brought an extra plate without being asked. They have closed circuit so you can watch your car in the parking lot. If you are looking for a dinner house, this place does not pretend to be that, it is just a step above fast food. They serve just what they advertise and more: Good food.

Sad to say I was very disappointed in the amount of food for the price we paid. The customer service was very bad, cashier was rude. The tables felt like they were dirty(sticky) we ordered the 7pc and we got a tiny bit of fries quite hilarious. I also ordered the jalapeño poppers and fried zucchini and they didn’t have ranch to go with them. My one and only time here. I will not come back. It is too bad that their service is bad there are not many fish n chip places around here

I got 5pc fish, 4pc butterfly shrimp, onion rings, fries, fried mushrooms & fried calamari. Pros: fish tasted excellent, that is how steak fries SHOULD be cooked & calamari batter had great flavor all done in under 10 minutes. Now that’s service! Cons: shrimp was rubbery, fried mushrooms was all batter, fish could have had less batter. Quantity with sides was minimal. Could have spent my $ 32.88 better. Note: I will still go back to try teriyaki dishes. Huge assortment of teriyaki bowls.

This hole in the wall place hit the spot when I was craving fish and chips. I was a little hesitant to go in when I park in an empty back parking lot during what I assumed would be a busy lunch hour. You go inside and you can tell the owners try to work with what they got in terms of décor. I was the only customer and I had to greet the cook to get his attention that I was standing there. I ordered the 3 piece Cod and my total was $ 8.77 As I was shuffling through my purse to get the exact change. The cashier got impatient and allowed me to get away with only paying $ 7.77(score!). I wanted to tip him, but all I had left in cash was a $ 100 bill. waaah waaaahhh. hehe. the food ended up being delicious, but the only bad part about the experience was that when I asked for ketchup for my fries, the woman only gave me one measly ketchup packet. When I asked for more, she only gave me one more. talk about skimpy… The tartar sauce is amazing though, sweeter than any other one I’ve had before! Oh ya, and they just assumed I was going to take it to-go which I thought was kinda strange… but fine?

I agree with the last review. Fries are cheap why not be a littler more generous? I think I might have had 17 fries. Most were the little crunchy end pieces so it was about equivalent to maybe 9 regular fries Pro: fish was good but could have used more seasoning. Salt and pepper perhaps? The counter help – Probably the owners, were nice. Con: tartar sauce was sweet. If u like sweet taste on fish it’s the one for you I do not. Lack of fries If I were in the area I might go back but wouldn’t drive from San Leandro like I did today.

Probably the worst place I’ve ever been to service wise. Food-wise, very skimpy, very bland. We asked for cups of water and only gave us one cup… that’s right… they’re stingy with there water? Truly bizaar. My review isn’t anything new, there’s tons of feedback with the exact same complaints. So service-wise, the Asian guy and lady could barely muster the will to communicate. No hello, just dead faced weirdos. I asked for cocktail sauce, and I only got weakest shake of the head… okayyy…no cocktail sauce at a fish&chips shop? Whatever… Food-wise, bland and skimpy, just like everyone else said. So from what I can gather, this place was once good and well liked. But these Asian people bought it, thought they could be super cheap, rude & dead faced and still be successful. NOPE. So now they really resent their customers, and treat then like crap. This place was dead when we went in, and deserves it. You can’t be skimpy with regular prices, rude and be successful. Ugh. P.s, I’m not racist, I’m Asian. These people just happened to be Asian.
