Went to Sabrina’s at 12:55PM and they were not open. Very unprofessional, it clearly says they open at 12pm. The food is only okay, because no other soul food restaurants in the area. The staff has very bad attitudes. I try to support black owned establishments, unfortunately Sabrina’s make it very difficult. Fyi my money spends everywhere, please don’t treat your customers as if you’re doing them a favor.

Stopped by and noticed it was changed from buffet style to Cafeteria style – where they serve you. You get 1 or 2meats with 2sides(3 sides if you dine-in). I got baked chicken – which was mildly seasoned. Itwas better than I thought. The Macaroni – was just ok. I’ve had better. It was very cheesy which is good, but seemed a bit bland. I put salt & hot sauce to give it more flavor. The greens were pretty good, no complaint there. the string beans were just ok – nothing special. maybe from the can. The corn bread was cornmeal shaped into a pancake. it was ok but was hoping for the Jiffy cornbread kind. Wasn’t a fan of the kool-aid«punch».made it feel kinda cheap. Maybe lemonade would be better. Overall it was ok… and much better than Dusties who has definitely went down and flat out terrible. My sister had fried chicken, Mac n cheese, greens & peach cobbler. I tasted her peach cobbler. it didn’t have much flavor though. She loved her whole meal… so I’m sure she’ll be back. My mother had smothered chicken which she said was just ok. As well as the spaghetti which she liked. It’s pretty much a hit or miss which isn’t ideal for me. My search for good soul food will continue…

Well I must say that Sabrina’s has made a terrific comeback from the fire last year. Everything was delicious especially their dressing and tender smothered chicken and don’t forget that Famous Gaston Punch. They have a great new system of operation and the server’s were very attentive and courteous as they always have been. Sabrina’s is the Best place to be for good soul food.

I really hesitated on writing this review seeing as how the staff is really pleasant, which is y I gave them two stars instead of one. But… I hadn’t been to Sabrina’s in a few years n I was hankering for some soul food. Paid my fare n entered. Boy, was I let down. Before I get to the meat, I will say the black eyed peas n red beans were delicious. The collard greens, quite tasty. The green beans, though, tasted canned. The macaroni looked like it was screaming«Don’t touch me,» so I didn’t! Meat time: So I don’t eat pig feet outside the house. Had to pass on them. Meatballs, I’ll pass. Neckbones, y not. Big mistake! Ridiculously dry, not to mention I had a long black hair stuck on the one I did pick up. The one piece of smothered chicken was sitting in gravy along with a ton of nothing but skin n bones. Okay. I still braved through n tried it. Big mistake! That was the driest piece of chicken ever. I’ll never understand how to make dry smothered chicken. Salad bar: no lettuce. Enough said. Fish: tilapia was good. Whiting was quite fishy. Beverages: the homemade Kool-Aid(which I loved) dispenser was almost finished when I walked in. When I left 20 minutes later, it’s safe to say it had yet to be filled. Ice was by request only. Deserts: pies n cakes looked good, but I wanted peach cobbler. Yep, you guessed it, there was nothing left but juice n crust in the pan. Overall, I was disappointed. Needless to say, I will not return.

God Bless Sabrina and her chef husband. I have been going to this place since they opened way back in the early ’90’s — I’m just a white chick with no frame of reference as far as soul food goes, but I know that every time I walk in I am greeted like a family member w hugs, smooches and prayers. After two rounds at the buffet, I am good for absolutely nothing but a nap. The décor is not the lure, so all the energies go into the cooking. Yum! The place is busiest on Sundays after church. One of the best spots around. Love it.

Best soul food restaurant around. All you can eat buffet? Food plentiful, fresh and flavorsome. People rave about MacArthurs on the West Side of Chicago, so I went there a few weeks ago and it is nowhere near as good as Sabrinas. Sabrinas is worth the 40 minute drive out of the city if you’re wanting a good feed.

This past sunday I went to sabrina with my boyfriend. We decided to get the two meat deal, the food was delicious but they baked chicken was not what I expected so I had to replace for smothered chops. Overall, I enjoyed my self even though the place was empty and the workers looked like they haven’t seen a customer all day.

This place had some of the best soul food I ever experienced in a restaurant. Sounds like some of you might of caught them on a bad day, because the food I had was fresh and delicious. I come from a long line of cooks, and I know good cooking when I taste it. This place was like eating in someone grandmothers kitchen. The mac and cheese was perfect, the dressing was so moist and fresh, the peach cobbler had an experienced cook taste– you know not to sweet but just right, the greens were to die for. Golden Corral or the Chinese restaurants cannot compete with them concerning soul food. While I was sitting their for the first time, I had to call a friend and tell her to come and taste the food. Go and try it for yourself! I liked the clean atmosphere and the service was impeccable. Keep in mind that this is a family business and do not have all the bells and whistles that a major organization might have. Overall I have to give this place a ten. I’m on my way there in a couple of hours and was searching for the number when I saw this message board, and had to let everyone know the truth.

Thanking the Maker that if my car ever broke down, that I live within walking distance of Sabrina’s. For the seven years since I’ve lived in the south burbs, this place has kept my tummy warm on a cold winter’s night. I love Sabrina’s. It’s a very unassuming place smack dab in the middle of a strip mall between a barber shop and a liquor store! There is absolutely nothing fancy about the décor in this by-the-pound buffet but who cares! The place is clean and the food is good! It’s like your grandmother cooking for you everyday. I say move over Dusties, which is overrated and overpriced. Sabrina’s is the place for soul food in the south burbs. It’s always hot and fresh. It’s so hard to catch ribs here because they are gone as soon as they put them out. The staff is very friendly and always smiling. I’ve never seen them crowded, but they manage to stay in business, so someone, other than myself, is buying their food. My daughter hates this place! I can’t figure out why! She should know what good food is after hanging with me :).

Used to go all the time but soul food while being good for the soul is not always good for heart as my doctor has informed me. So high blood pressure and borderline diabetes has changed my eating habits no salt and low carbs but on my way down from 290lbs+ to get to a doctor ordered lean 225lbs but I cheat on my diet at least once a month and this is one of my many sins aka restaurants and make this one of my stops for some old time good eating.

Well, I’m gonna hafta disagree with Dakota B… Sabrina’s Restaurant is one of my fave soul food kitchens… faling behind my mom’s and grandmoms’ and aunts’ of course… Which brings me to the jist of this review… its hard to judge soul good because everyone’s dishes are always different. However, I can say that I am a fan of Sabrina’s for the following reasons: 1) fresh and hot — whether you get the buffet or not 2) friendly! — only attitude you get is good attitude 3) tasty — not overseasoned or overcooked like its easy to do with soul food 4) fairly priced — they keep it real Yes, it is true they could work on the décor. However, it has a very inviting, old fashioned atmosphere. If you go at lunch try to sit in the booths at the back of the restaurant. You’ll feel just like you were in a 70s era diner complete with plastic seat covers and light bulbs around the mirrors. You’ll walk out looking for your cadillac with the diamond in the back… and be relieved a la gas prices when you fire up your Prius.

It was recommened that I try this place when a craving for Southern food hit. It was described as a soul food buffet. Upon entering I was CERTAIN I had been misinformed. There were about 4 food stations oddly placed towards the back of the room. We inquired about the buffet and sure enough it did exist, so we paid the price of admission and ventured inside. The selection of meat left a lot to be desired. I am fully aware that lower end meats are soul food staples, but most of the meat selection consisted of Pig Feet, Ham Hocks and the like. They did feature some very unappealing looking smoked turkey(vveins and other such oddities all throughout) as well as fried chicken that was like chewing on a stick. It had been out waaaaaaay too long. The mac and cheese was a gloppy pile of goo that I could swear started as kraft mac and cheese(the blue box, skinny pasta and all.) There was absolutely NO texture to the mac and cheese as the pasta was basically cooked to mush. The spaghetti was the same way only it featured what can best be described as a non meat substance instead of ground beef. It was in little logs as if someone cut up a soy patty or a mound of textured vegatable protien. The ambiance is dreaful and they do not have adequate air conditioning. I’m not a «That place made me sick» kinda person but between the VERY unappealing look and texture of the food plus the elevated temperature I literally felt ill after the meal. I really wonder how this play stays open.
